Chapter 233
PACK MEMBERS: “What is all this?” “What caused all these statues?” “Not just the statues, these ash piles?” “Is any of ours hurt?” “Did we lose any to the ice, or the ashes?” “Where’s the Alpha?”
DRAKE: “I’m right here, I can assure you that none of our people succumbed to the ice, or ashes. Every statue and ash pile is a Stone Claw invader.” “But who caused all this?” one pack member called out. “We will investigate.” I told the Pack. “Please return to your homes, when I have more information, I will share it with all of you, I promise.” I told them. “Yes Alpha.” They responded and returned to their homes. I need to talk to Kes and find out what she was thinking.
TREVER: I stayed with Kes through the fight, watching how she moved and how she handled herself, she didn’t panic, like most untrained fighters would have, I know she has her aikido training to draw from, but still, she didn’t panic. TREVER: I need to send word back home, to take out Stone Claw for good, they attacked with no provocation, and while both Dutch and I were here, that is an attack on the royal house, and you don’t get to walk away from that. After I showered and got dressed, I grabbed my phone and sent a text to Barrett.
From Trever: Just wanted to let you know that Stone Claw attacked last night.
From Barrett: Are you ok
From Trever: Yes, we are all good, not sure how many we may have lost haven’t Talked to the Alpha yet.
From Barrett: We will deal with Stone Claw. Our way.
From Trever: Figured you would.
From Barrett: How are the girls
From Trever: They are great. Kes and Mackie have been working with Some of the orphan kids with archery and she put them on Roof tops and in trees to help they did great.
From Barrett: Sounds good can’t wait to hear the full story. I will get people On the Stone Claw issue right away so I have to let you go.
From Trever: I will send a full report back soon. Bye.
From Barrett: Bye.
TREVER: I hang up. I am starving, I need to find Kes, Dutch, and Mackie and go get food. “Is everybody ready? I’m starving.” I call out “coming.” I get several answers. Once we are all together, I lead the way down to the dining area. The breakfast was a simple affair this morning, scrambled eggs, toast, bacon, sausage, and juices, straight forward, nothing fancy, but after everything I’m just grateful I don’t have to cook my own.
MACKIE: “When we were getting the kids back to the orphanage, the Pack were coming out and they were scared and skittish of the statues and ash piles you left in your wake last night.” I whispered to Kes. “It’ll be ok.” She signs to me. “I don’t know?” I sign back. “Well, I will deal with it if and when it happens. She answers back. I nod my head, and we eat our breakfast.
JAMES: I can’t wait any longer. I grab Wyatt and head to dad’s office, I knock. “Come.” I open the door and walk in with Wyatt behind me. “Dad, did you see all those ice statues, and ash piles?” “Yes, James I did.” “Who or What caused them?” “Your sister.” He dead pans “WHAT?” I was shocked. “How could Kes do that?” “You are asking the wrong question, son, it’s not how, it’s why. She should have been in the safe room with the rest of the noncombatants. Not out being in the middle of the fight.” He says. “You knew?” “Yes, I knew. I have known ever since she got Corla, remember the whole stabbing issue?” I nod. “Corla did the same to Brent and Ronnie, so more to the point, it was Corla.” “But still, it begs the question, how?” “She is a hybrid, as you know, she controls both fire and water, and what you’ve seen out there, is her forms of attack, along with a poison, according to the doc, and your grandmother Lilly.” I am stunned, I don’t know what to say. I look at Wyatt and see that he is just as stunned as I am. “I don’t think the Pack is going to accept this.” I say aloud. “I know, I just need to figure out how to tell them, without them turning on her.” “Goddess this sucks!” “Yes.” Dad says. “And speaking of Brent and Ronnie, what are we going to do with Kirk and Rodney? They have been down in the cells now for a while, too much longer and they will think that we have forgotten them.” I say. “Yes, I need to figure a just punishment for them. I just might have Corla do it. Considering she was the one they tried to hurt.” “This could be a test to see if she can control her bites, if she can give them the full dose of her poison, which would be fitting for them, let them suffer, until they die.” “James that is not the sign of a good Alpha, they are not rogues, they are Pack members, yes, they broke Pack rules, but we don’t torture our own like that. It has to be quick, I’m not saying painless, but quick.” He tells me. I nod my understanding. “Ok, but we still need to deal with them.” He nods. And we leave.
DRAKE: After James and Wyatt left my office, I got a link from Frank. “Alpha, we have another wolf that is in severe pain, he’s closer to the school, he smells of Stone Claw and has an aura about him, I think he may be ranked.” “Get him to the hospital and ask doc to do his best to save him.” “Yes Alpha.” I really need to talk to Keska. Goddess what was she thinking, and now that the pack has seen what she can do, I don’t think they will allow her to stay, unless she can control it, and I don’t think she can. I go in search of my mate; I find her in her office. “Carla dear we need to talk about Kes.” “What about her?” “Have you been outside yet? Or even looked outside?” “No, I haven’t been able to bring myself to look yet, do you know how many we lost yet?” “No, I haven’t got that report, but I need you to come with me.” I lead her to a window that looks out over the Pack grounds. “WHAT ARE THOSE?” “That is what our daughter does.” I tell her. “Her bite causes the Ice statues, and the ash piles, plus her poison.” “Oh Drake! They won’t let her stay! Not if she can’t control it.” “I know. I just don’t know quite how to handle it, without the Pack turning on her.” “Do you think if we have her voluntary leave, they won’t be too harsh on her?” “Maybe, but the question is where? I am not going to just send her away willy–nilly!” “We can ask Mother, she might be able to help.” I nod.
A pack of their own
