Everyone at the hospital knew that Damon and I were in the process of getting a divorce, and they also knew that Damon was trying to win me back. His pursuit was so high–profile and dramatic that it was impossible not to notice.
Damon’s colleagues advised him to let go and stop causing trouble for me, but Damon refused. He said he couldn’t live without me.
On the other hand, some of my female colleagues suggested that I give Damon another chance. They acknowledged his excellence and how much effort he put into the relationship. Though his previous actions were inappropriate, they weren’t deal–breakers, and maybe we could try to work things out again.

I shook my head with a smile. “Once someone loses faith, it’s impossible to go back.”
Besides, even without Carol, there would be Cara, Cathy, Crystal–there would always be
someone.
And all of this was because of his lack of effort,
his insufficient love.
If it were before, I might have believed in him again and given him another chance. But because I had given him too many chances, I was now completely disillusioned.

I decided to resign and switch jobs. The hospital was filled with too many painful memories.
A friend of my father recommended a medical director to me, suggesting I study under him at his hospital. I agreed.
On the day I was packing up to leave, I didn’t tell Damon, but he came to my office. We stood face to face in the quiet office, every breath audible.
“Are you really leaving?” Damon’s deep voice carried a hint of sadness.
I nodded. “People need to move on.”

I had no reason to stay for anyone; I am what I

Damon was silent for a long time. After a moment, he smiled, and I smiled too, feeling a sense of relief.
He handed me a bouquet of flowers, his expression one of anxious hope that I would accept them.
“Thank you.” I nodded and then turned to leave.
Before I left, I noticed that his lips moved as if he wanted to say something. But I didn’t give him the chance, because it was no longer necessary.

I hoped that the days ahead would be smooth, and I would move on to a new phase in my life.
As I walked away, Damon’s mind was filled with memories of our past together. We had once loved each other deeply and shared many sweet
moments.
But with the arrival of Carol and the death of his mentor, everything changed.
His heart ached painfully, as if Warner was still present before him.
“I’m sorry, Warner, I’m sorry, Ashy…” Damon mumbled to himself, his eyes vacant. Although he began to regret, it was too late.
