Malcolm’s voice had an undeniable presence, commanding the room and quelling the murmurs of the journalists. No one dared to mess with the big story when the Flynn family’s eldest son laid down the law.

“Cut the chatter. Any more delays and I’ll miss catching up with my wife, Malcolm said sharply, and with that, he strode out, his long legs carrying him swiftly past the parting crowd of reporters.
Stepping outside, Reese unexpectedly stumbled upon a disgruntled Megan, who was griping to Charles.
How can Malcolm be with such a woman? She’s as warm as an ice block and tough as nails. Look at her face, stern like someone owes her money. Has the Flynn family lowered its standards so much? Megan lamented indignantly.
People like you wouldn’t make it past the doorstep,” came Charles blunt retort.
Meanwhile, from a short distance away, a cool yet compelling voice chimed in, stopping Megan cold.
She felt an inexplicable fear wash over her, the origins of which even she couldn’t grasp. As she turned, there stood Reese, a close. Towering and commanding. Reese’s presence alone overwhelmed Megan.
Megan, without thinking, stepped back, her pride wounded yet compelling her to stand her ground against Reese.

“Just because you’re married to Malcolm doesn’t mean you can lord it over everyone with the Flynn family’s power. What around comes around, and one day, Malcolm will move on from you Megan challenged resentfully.

Megan, defiant, chin held high, scoffed.
What makes you think you’re so special?”
“It’s simple. My husband loves me. That something you can compete with? Besides, I’d advise you to save your words, if only to cling to a shred of dignity,” Reese responded, her voice calm yet filled with a commanding chill.
Megan was left speechless, unable to fathom Reese’s confidence which seemed to know no bounds. Her face a palette of conflicting emotions, Megan’s hand, poised to point at Reese, faltered under the sharp edge of Reese’s piercing gaze, and she withdrew it
hastily.
“Just wait, I’ll get you for this,” Megan hissed, fully aware she was no match for Reese, be it in a war of words or a physical confrontation. She was outgunned in every way by this girl standing before her.
Try as she might, Megan couldn’t grasp where Reese’s natural dominance came from. Although they appeared to be about the same age, Reese exuded an air of authority that seemed without reason or explanation.
Charles was taken aback by Reese’s fearlessness – the nerve she had in the face of such a media circus and the flurry of debate.
An ordinary person would have been scared witless, complexion drained of color, unstable under pressure, but Reese remained bright–eyed with unwavering determination. Even Charles found her aura overwhelming. She was surprisingly well–versed in past

events, almost like someone with inside knowledge.
Unable to help himself, Charles blurted out a question. “What exactly is your relationship with Robert, and who are you, really?”
Reese shot him a cold glance, “You’re not worthy of that information.
The very idea that someone like C
Charles, so pitiful and low, would be privy to her identity was absurd,
Fuming inside, Megan challenged Reese, “How dare you speak to my father like that! I’ll teach you a lesson!”
With a raised hand, Megan aimed a slap at Reese’s face.

“Megan!” Charles tried to intervene, but it was too late.
In the moment Megan’s hand descended, a bloodthirsty calm flashed in Reese’s eyes. She seized Megan’s wrist and counter–attacked with a swift, decisive slap. The sound of it echoed around them.
Megan was stunned, feeling a sharp pain on her cheek, and as she came to her senses, her eyes glaring at Reese, she screamed, “You little monster, how dare you hit mel
Megan moved to strike back, but Reese’s lips curled into a chill smile as she prepared to put Megan in her place. Suddenly, a strong grip on her shoulder yanked her back, and she found herself steadied against a warm embrace.
Looking up. Reese met the handsome features of Malcolm and gasped in surprise, “How did you get here?”
With tenderness overflowing in his eyes, Malcolm pinched her soft cheek, “Leaving your husband alone back there, troublemaker. You’ll get it when we’re home.”

Pointing at Reese furiously, Megan addressed Malcolm, “Look closely, Malcolm. This woman is two–faced, bullish, and insolent. You didn’t see her talking back to my father. How can a woman with no manners be worthy of you?”
There was an eerie gleam in the man’s eyes that grew more pronounced by the moment, his brows furrowed in a silent display of displeasure.
“When it comes to Reese, 1, Malcolm, have the final say. What gives you the right to come here and poke your nose into our business?” he demanded.
“But she hit someone! If you’re with her and she goes nuts and hits you,
1, what then?“
Megan, cradling her burning cheek, was on the verge of tears, shaking with fury.
“Nonsense. My wife is the gentlest and most virtuous woman at home. She’s never lifted a finger before. That just proves how out of line you were to make her resort to violence,” he retorted with conviction.
“You’re both…” Megan nearly gagged with the revulsion she felt towards them.
What spell had this girl cast on Malcolm that he was going to such lengths to protect her?
Megan had always thought, with his cool, aloof demeanor, he wouldn’t easily fall for a woman. Especially since there hadn’t been anyone else by his side all these years, she felt she still had a chance
Who would have guessed he’d end up marrying Reese, a woman without any manners to speak of, and now he was even backing her up against Megan herself.
Malcolm had no time to waste bantering with someone who didn’t matter.
“My wife, Reese, can slap you if she wants. Even if she slaps you again, I’d still indulge her. So, do yourself a favor and stay out of her way. You can’t handle the consequences,” he said coldly.
Then, wrapping an arm around Reese, the harshness vanished from his face, his voice turning soft and gentle.
“Let’s go home.”

Reese didn’t resist this time, simply nodiling her head in agreement
Megan watched them leave, her fists clenched. She wasn’t going to this go, the wouldn’t just hand Malcolm over to Beege. That slap would be returned, sooner or later.
Out of Megan’s sight, Reese shivered slightly, and Malcolm’s hand slipped away.
She stopped, regaining her standoffish composure.
“From now on, I’d appreciate it if you kept out of my affairs. I don’t need anyone fighting my battles for me.”
With those words, a chill settled between them.
