Chapter 110 I Am the Law
Reese scoffed, her piercing gaze fixed on Susan. Despite appearing any ordinary girl, she exuded such a commanding presence, which was striking without being out of place.
“Really? | I didn’t know a thing or two about self–defense, I might have ended up like you,”
Susan replied with righteous indignation, “That’s right, you know self defense, and look at you, you’re fine.”
“Even if I’m fine now, that doesn’t mean you didn’t arrange for someone to harm me. I was just lucky to have escaped their clutches.
“We were colleagues for a while, you should know ine, I’m Reese. I dont start trouble, but I’m not scared of it either. If you dare stab me in the back, don’t blame me for biting back.”
Reese spoke with undeniable logic and without a hint of fear; her eyes sparkled even brighter under the sunlight.
Susan had come to settle scores with Reese but found herself faced with such defiance that suddenly, it seemed as if she was the one in the wrong.
She harbored some fear of Reese; after all, Reese had a fiery temper and never refrained from confronting anyone at the office. Her demeanor was formidable, especially those eyes, which felt soul–piercing with but a glance.
It was that underlying dread, emanating from Reese, that was truly frightening.
The
e onlookers, seeing Susan speechless, assumed she was feeling guilty, and the tide of opinion began to turn in favor of Reese.
“Yeah, it’s true she went after Roose first and now she’s blaming others. Good thing Reese can defend herself, otherwise, she might have been in the same boat as Susan.“
“Still, Susan’s got some nerve, daring to do that to Reese.
“Exactly, if I were in her shoes, I would have slapped Susan right there. Despicable woman.”
“Yeah, I mean, Reese didn’t do anything to her. But Susan–she messes up, gets fired, and has the nerve to blame Reese for it,” someone remarked.
Susan had been blindsided by how swiftly Reese had turned public opinion against her. Drowned in the judgmental stares and whispers, Susan felt cornered and was even beginning to doubt herself. Had she really been the one at fault?
No wa
way. It was
as clear to
to her that Reese was the villain in her story.
Fired up by the injustice she felt she had suffered, Susan raised her voice, neck stiff with defiance. “Don’t buy her nonsense! Sure, I asked for a favor, but look where it got me! At least she’s still standing here, all intact!”
As Susan continued, she played the sympathy card, tears streaking down her cheeks. “Now my reputation is ruined, and who knows if I’ll ever find someone, if I’ll even get to be a mother? All thanks to Reese, I just wanted an apology, for crying out loud. Am 1 wrong to ask for that?”
People have a natural tendency to side with the underdog, and Susan’s tears quickly garnered onlookers‘ sympathy.
“Actually, it’s a bit sad to see Susan like this. Reese, maybe you should just apologize and compensate her for the ess and we can let this whole thing slide, someone suggested.
“Yeah, we’re all going to be late standing around here with no end in sight. It’s a waste of time.”

“Man, a woman who’s had her good name dragged through the mud Reese, shouldn’t treat people that cruelly. That’s just cold–hearted.”
gonna be scarred for sure.
Granted, Susan’s at fault here, but
Suddenly, due to Susan’s weeping necisations, Reese found herself the target of collective blame, with people criticizing her for being too harsh,
Corner of Susan’s mouth twitching with a song smile, she wasn’t about to take her own downfall for nothing. Even if she couldnt oust Reese from the company, she was determined to make Reese’se there unbearable.
But Reese remained unmoved by the crowd’s words, her gaze icily detached..
Buoyed by the crowd’s support, Susan spoke with increasing confidence. “Look, I’m not vindictive, and I’m certainly not trying to extort you. But, for the emotional distress and my medical bills from the hospital stay, you owe me.”
A mocking smile played on Reese’s lips. “So, how much are we talking?
Susan, caught off guard by Reese’s ready agreement, shot for the mocn. “Not much, considering my pain and suffering. Let’s say a million dollars.”
Reese just shrugged and laughed, leaving Susan baffled and wide–eye, attempting to fathom her reaction.
“What are you laughing at?”
“Nothing. For a moment there, I thought you were coming to hit me up for two mil.”
Susan tilted her head with a mix of arrogance and amusement, “So, are you going to give it to me or not?”
give it to you. Not just one million–I’m good for two million.”
nt came with a breezy ease, her face absent of any displeasure.
Reese’s agreement
Susan was startled by Reese’s words, her mind racing. Was Reese out of her mind? Anyone else would’ve flat–out refused or even started a huge argument by now. But here Reese was, not only agreeing to it but doubling the amount.
“Is this some kind of joke to you?” Susan asked, wariness in her voice
“I’m dead serious. I. Reese, never lie to anyone. But, you have to agree to one condition.”
“What condition?”
“One million is a compensation for you. The other million? That’s for your hospital bill. You’ve really ticked me off today, and I feel like beating some sense into you. The thing is, I don’t have much control when it comes to throwing punches. I can’t say what shape you’ll be in after, just that you ll be alive. Any disabilities, though? gure two million should cover your nursing care.”
Reese’s gaze swept over
er Susan, carrying a chilling intent that made her skin crawl. Just hearing those words had Susan backpedaling
in fear, her face ashen, legs wobbly.
With a strained smile, Susan retorted, “What nonsense are you spouting? You w
want to hit me? Reese, you’re
Reese, you’re really crossing the line
“In most places, maybe, but when it comes to you, Reese makes the rules!”
Her words fell like a verdict, with a cold intensity that filled the air. Susan was beginning to regret confronting Reese; she seemed like a demon straight out of hell. Susan felt the temperature drop around her, as if cocooned in ice.
Onlookers murmured among themselves in disbelief.
