Chapter 111 I’ll Pay for Her
Susan let out a scornful Inuigh, “Reese, have you lost your mind? Two million for you to get a free shot at me? Besides, do you ever have that kind of money? For a small–time company worker to make ich grand claims–show me the money.”
“I don’t have it, but I do.”
The assertive male voice resounded through the crowd, causing a st

“Isn’t that Mr. Flynn?”
“Why is Mr. Flynn coming over here?” someone
ne murmured.
“What’s the deal between this Mr. Flynn and Reese? others speculated, with curiosity buzzing in the air.
Reese furrowed her brows, irked by the intrusion. She didn’t need him swooping in to deal with this nuisance for her. She had plenty of cards up her sleeve to handle someone like Susan. If she couldn’t take down a small–time pest like this, how could she expect to stand her ground in society?
Malcolm, still pretending to be wheelchair–bound to keep his recovery secret, sat calmly. He was clad in a smoky grey shirt, casually unbuttoned at the top to reveal his collarbone, cufflinks catching beams of sunlight – a silent testament to understated elegance.
His expression was icy, and the fierce look in his eyes spoke volumes
Susan had not anticipated Malcolm stepping into the fray. His presence was overpowering, leaving her defenseless. Simple eye contact set her heart racing uncontrollably.
She spoke timidly, “Mr… Mr. Flynn.”
The depth
in Malcolm’s eyes
seemed to v
grow darker, “You wanted tv million, right? Reese won’t be paying; I will.”
It took a moment for Susan to gather her wits, “Mr. Flynn, what… what business is this of yours? This is a private matter between
Reese and me.”
Why would someone like Malcolm come to Reese’s defense? Just who was she to him?
“It’s not your place to question my relationship with her. I’m just asking you, do you want the two million or not?”
His piercing gaze bore down on Susan, his dark pupils like an abyss that could make one dizzy with their endless depth.
Feeling the chill from Malcolm’s stare, Susan couldn’t figure out his angle. If she accepted the money on Reese’s behalf, could revenge befall her later? Barely maintaining a foothold in her industry, if Malcolm were to sabotage her, she might not find work
again.
After much deliberation, the risk seemed too great.
With an uneasy attempt at a smile, she said, “Mr. Flynn, no offense meant, it’s just a joke between Reese and me. Still, she should compensate me for my troubles, shouldn’t she?”
Reese interrupted firmly, “A lawyer will get in touch with you to settle the compensation properly. Consider this a lesson. If you don’t learn from it, don’t blame me for not being nice next time.”
Her gaze was icy and her aura, chilling. Susan, witnessing Reese and Malcolm side by side, couldn’t help but feel they were oddly well–suited

Chapter 111.I’ll Pay for Her
What in the world was going on?
Susan clammed up, feeling the weird energy in the air, especially coming off Malenim–it was downright eerie, She resolved to dig into what the deal was between the two of them another day. For now, she etched today’s events firmly into her memory.
Head hanging low, Susan slinked away as Malcolm’s ley gaze swept or the rubbernecking employees.
“Anyone who stood around watching today, consider yourselves late, he declared.
Groans spread through the crowd, but no one dared utter n word of protest.
As the tension dispersed, Malcolm’s brooding countenance softened when he caught sight of Reese, replaced with a gentle patience.
“Why didn’t you call me when Susan came to hassle you?” he asked.
That lunatic Susan–what if she hurt my wife later on?
Reese was indifferent to the idea of Malcolm getting involved. She gave him an indifferent glance and said, “I don’t need you to rescue me; I can handle it myself. If this drama starts making people suspect our relationship, it’ll be your headache, not mine.”
She was used to dealing with trouble on her own. Yet now, at the first sign of trouble, Malcolm would swoop in, fearful for her well- being, insisting on protecting her. It left her feeling unsteady and oddly irritable.
For years, she had kept a steady pace in life. Then out of the blue, this guy, barely an acquaintance, asserted his desire to keep ber safe, and it unsettled her more than she liked to admit.
Sometimes, she even caught herself secretly hoping he’d show up, craving the care and protection she never knew she wanted–or needed. Yet what she feared most was becoming reliant on him, only for him to suddenly back out, leaving her to sink alone in her emotions, unable to move on.
The thought of being abandoned again, the loneliness she knew all too well, was something she vowed never to experience again. Ever since Kenneth had walked out on her and her mother, she decided never to trust anyone so easily, refusing to follow in her mother’s footsteps. A woman who keeps men at bay remains bulletproof, sailing smoothly through life.
Malcolm chuckled dismissively. “Why do you always reject your husband’s affections? Can’t you tell I’m trying to get closer?”
can’t see it. I only see your fleeting interest, a novelty to you men. Once you get to know me, once you spot my flaws, you’ll grow tired. As time goes on, you won’t even bother to look my way.”
Reese’s words carried a weighty
y sense of disillusionment with t
the world.
Malcolm quipped with a tilt of his chin, “Kid, you’ve hardly known a few guys, so how come you think you understand men so well? Not all men are like that,”
Reese felt a spark of defiance as she glanced sideways at Malcolm with a touch of annoyance. Her patience was always thin, especially when it came to any discussion about love and relationships with Malcolm. They could never seem to agree on anything
Rolling her eyes in exasperation, she said, “I don’t want to talk about this anymore, I’m going inside.” Deep down, she feared that his words might shake her resolve, which at times seemed absurdly influential, compelling her heart to flutter against her wishes.
The way he was always there for her, affectionately calling her “hone had made her feel what love might be for the very first time. She knew she had to distance herself from Malcolm fast or risk genuinely falling for him.
