Chapter 122 The Drama Is Just Beginning
Seeing that she couldn’t persuade Reese, Alyssa gave up. Besides, nudy at the company knew Reese and her were acquainted; it probably wouldn’t embarrass her. Still, Alyssa wondered whether she should mention it to Malcolm. Better not–if Reese Inst, Malcolm would probably feel dishonored too.
Meanwhile, completely oblivious to Alyssa’s mental gymnastics, Reds could hardly care less.
After arriving at the company, Alyssa let Reese out at the entrance and went off to park the car. Reese walked inside, deeply focused on how she might alter a project proposal she’d previously snatched front Malcolm and claim it as her own. As for which subsidiary would present it, she already had a plan in miisl.
To avoid revealing her identity, she never used her name on any of the corporate legal documents, which also helped prevent any nosy digging that could later prove hard to explain.
No sooner had Reese stepped into the elevator when Calvin’s call came through again; she hung up without a second thought.
There was no service inside.
Once
out of the elevator and on her way to the balcony, she called him back.
“Reese, 1 heard you’ve got a performance tonight,” he said, smirking through the phone in a way Reese could all but see.
Reese furrowed her brow. “You spend your days digging into my business instead of handling your own. You even know about my performance tonight?”
“Heh, turns out a buddy of mine’s girlfriend works at your company, Beard it through the grapevine that no one at the Flynn Group dares to cross you, man or woman.”
There was no hiding Calvin’s pride–it bubbled over the line. This was the Reese he knew, not fluttering about town.

Reese flicked her hair nonchalantly. “Sounds almost like you’re insulting me, Calvin.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it. We might swing by to catch your act tonight, Reese, But honestly, do you have a talent lined up? Are planning to show off how you could crash their entire system in three minutes flat? That might just give your husband an aneurysm.”
Calvin chuckled to himself, “I’m increasingly intrigued to see your hubby’s face now.”
“If you’ve got time to kill, track down the guy who was supposed to end me Jason’s file.”
“Didn’t he stand you up? Probably a scammer.”
“Not a scammer. The info he gave me checked out–it’s legit. Stuff not just anyone would know.”
Jason was no ordinary Joe; his affairs weren’t public knowledge.
Reese paused before adding, “Also, I recently concocted a truth serum and stashed it in a very

“Truth serum! Don’t tell me you plan to use it on Malcolm…”
“If it works, he’ll spill what he knows about Jason. the chatter and just get it, will ya? I need to punch in,”

Another late arrival and her prfect attendance bonus would be toast–not that it was much but hey, It could buy a few meals.
“Alright, alright. Got it, you’re a piece of work. Only your Ineshand ca tolerate you,”
After ending the call, Reese headed inside.
It wasn’t long before Reese spotted Sophia Linden and her high and mighty entourage approaching. They strutted with their noses in the air, dripping with arogance, reminding het of Holly back in college. She must have thought she was the cat’s meow, but it was all just smoke and mirrors.
The lot of them seemed like nothing more than bints from the wrong side of the tracks.
Standing beside her, Emma suddenly felt a wave of unexplainable angiely creeping up. An impulse to grasp Reese’s arm overcame her but recollecting how Reese disliked being touched made her retract her hand, steeling herself instead.
Nervous and fearful, she glanced over at Reese. “What do we do? They’re definitely here to cause you trouble. Maybe we should tell
Mr. Flynn.”
With that thought, Emma was set to look for Malcolm. Mr. Flynn would surely handle this situation.
Reese yanked her back before she could take a step. “What’s the rush Do you think she’d actually get physical?”
Physical confrontation wasn’t a worry for Reese. Even if they all ganged up on her, they wouldn’t stand a chance. Workplace politics wouldn’t faze her either.
Sophia Linden raised an eyebrow in arrogance, “So, Reese, what kind of talent are you gonna treat us to today? Don’t make us all cringe, please.”
Lilly chimed in spornfully, “Well, that remains to be seen. Reese is just pretty on the outside; she’s just a mere decoration.”
Reese’s eyes
narrowed with an icy glint, sweeping over Lilly and sending a shiver down her spine.
“Being decorative isn’t for everyone. You need the looks to pull it off which, judging by you, seems like something you’d struggle to do, Reese retorted, her tone cool and dismissive.
Emma couldn’t help but laugh, earning a furious glare from Lilly, silencing her immediately.
Sophia Linden didn’t want to waste more time sparring with Reese. She had her own performance to prep for, but she was looking forward to Reese’s upcoming embarrassment.
Gritting her teeth, she shot at Reese, “We will see about that!”
Reese smirked, clearly unbothered and not taking them seriously.
Emma felt a twinge of concern for Reese. “Reese, maybe you should est apologize to Sophia and the others. I heard they even invited colleagues from other departments to witness your downfall, if you can’t deliver, won’t that make you the butt of all jokes hereafter?”
With a slight tilt of her head and puckered red lips, Reese exuded subtle confidence. “Who becomes the joke remains to be seen.”
By 7 p.m., Reese was backstage, dressed unspectacularly. She had chosen a simple dress–not ostentatious or expensive–because; after all, it was just the company’s annual gala. Why would she pull out all the stops?
When the gala commenced, Sophia Linden drew the first performance slot, and ironically, Reese’s act was drawn second by Sophia
herself.

Lilly couldn’t hide her smugness. Reese had embarrassed her in front of all their colleagues before, but today, with Sophia Linden’s unwitting help, she was determined to turn the tables.
When her number was called, Sophia hurried away, not daring to cross these people, but their mocking laughter chased her out the
door.
Once the event got underway, Sophia Linden took to the stage with confidence, performing a sultry jazz dance. Her figure was already sizzling, and her sexy outfit only amplified the whoops and hollers from the male crowd.
Reese had to admit, Sophia Linden had stage p presence, but her dance bordered on tasteless appealing to some men, perhaps, but it was met with eye rolls from many women.
Sophia Linden, for her part, seemed to believe she had the competition in the bag. She swished her dress with an air of arrogance and, passing by Reese, couldn’t resist a taunt.
“Donned that dress for a laugh, have you?”
Reese’s clear eyes sparkled with mischief. “Don’t worry, the real show is just starting.”
