Chapter 132 Don’t Badmouth My Wife
Dahlia seemed hesitant, as if someone was forcing her to speak, and then the began with difficulty.
Honestly, I feel it should have been me walking down the aisle with you
Malcolm, hands in his pockets, remained expressionless.
“No, y you don’t understand. You case,” Dahlia rushed to explain

Makolm raised an eyebrow in surprise, a sharp gleam reflecting in his deep eyes.
“Oh? Then what real reason did my wife marry me?”
As he spoke, Dahlia’s head drooped, tears falling as she sobbed softly presenting a picture of woe. “You’ve been with my sister long enough to know she’s headstrong; once she makes up her mind, no one can sway her. We had everything prepared, but then she unexpectedly returned, insisting she wanted to be yours.
With each word, Dahlia’s crying intensified, her face the epitome of grief as she looked at Malcolm with pleading eyes.
She threatened to end her life, saying she came from a small town and marrying anyone other than you would never be life the wanted. She blackmailed our parents, declaring she’d sever ties with the Brooks family if they didn’t agree. We owed it to her for the guilt we felt since childhood, so we could only yield to her wishes.”
Malcolm listened, his handsome face unresponsive to Dahlia’s desired reaction, his calm demeanor almost knocking the wind out of her sails.
Any ordinary man hearing her tale, coupled with her pitiable look, would have immediately wrapped her in a comforting embrace.
But Malcolm’s reaction was nothing like that of an ordinary man. He offered no comforting words, not even the slightest hint of surprise.
Wiping her tears and sniffling, her voice trembled weakly.
“Don’t you believe me, brother–in–law?”
Malcolm seemed to suddenly snap to attention as if he had just heard Dahlia’s plea.
“I believe you, really, but I’m quite satisfied with Reese. Whatever means she used to become my wife don’t bother me. I, Malcolm, have chosen her, and that settles it–she’s my wife.
Dahlia was stunned into silence by his words.
This… Reese muttered, trailing off. Something felt off. According to her carefully laid plans, shouldn’t Malcolm have been fuming, ready to file for divorce and set everything straight?
How could this happen?
Reese, who had been dragged behind the artificial rocks by Alyssa to eavesdrop, wore an expression that straddled the li disbelief and composure.
Alyssa was nearly at her wits end–she was this close to slapping Dublia outright.

“How can that woman be so shameless, spouting nonsense and slandering you right in front of Malcolm? Alyssa exclaimed indignantly.
Caught off guard by Alyssa’s outburst, Reese let out a decisive chuck)). “You don’t even know the whole story. How can you be sure she’s lying? Plus, I am a bit eccentric and tough by nature. For all we know, she might be telling the truth.”
But Alyssa shook her head with conviction. No way. From what I’ve en of you, leese, you might be difficult to get along with and mysterious at times, but you’re definitely not the kind to stoop to pettiness. That’s beneath you, okay?”
That’s exactly why Alyssa admired Reese–her forthrightnesAA, let her surroundings dictate who she should be.
it or leave it attitude. Reese wouldn’t change for anyone, or
Embracing such unapologetic authenticity was something Alyssa knew she could never achieve, as it required immense mental strength. People who can live unpretentiously and turns into the person they desire to be are rare these days.
Most people alter their personalities or abandon their initial aspirations due to life’s hard knocks or brutal reality. Not Reese though; her inner compass pointed steadfastly toward her goals.
Silent, Reese secretly admired Alyssa’s insight; for someone who seemed mainly concerned with gaming, she could be surprisingly

Reese had her principles and goals. She planned meticulously, then pursued her objectives relentlessly.

Alyssa, interpreting Reese’s silence as worry, hurried to reassure her Don’t fret, Reese. Malcolm’s a smart guy. He won’t fall for few sharp–tongued remarks.“
Reese glanced at Alyssa, unaffected. “Whether Malcolm believes it oot, I really don’t care.”
Obsessing over others‘ opinions was exhausting, and Heese refused live under the weight of their judgment. It simply wasn’t

worth it.
The bad times, the hunts–she had weathered them all alone. No one could truly empathize with her pain, which meant she had to love herself twice as much.
Hearing Reese’s words, Alyssa felt a strange surge of emotion. What had Reese gone through to attain such a level of detachment and composure?
With a sly grin suddenly spreading across her face, she teased, “Reese, you’ve got quite the story to tell, don’t you?”
“Just drop it, let’s go.” Reese prepared to stand up and leave.
“Hold on.
d on, just a minute longer…”
Alyssa pulled her back into the seat
Dahka, standing in front of Malcolm, was confused but held a firm belief: no man, especially not Malcolm, could remain indifferent to a beautiful woman.
She tugged at the collar of her dress and confessed, “Truth is, Malcolm, I’ve always admired you. I wanted to step aside for my sister, but these past nights, I’ve been thinking about you constantly, Malcolm, and I
As she advanced toward Malcolm’s arms, his expression darkened, and he exuded an intimidating presence.
He caught her mid–lunge, his hands securing her shoulders. Dahlia looked up, bewildered. His face was seemingly gentle, yet his eyes were a different story, fierce and frightening.
A chill ran down Dahlia’s spine
“Sorry, the only woman I want in my arms is my wife. Any other and just feel disgusted.”
His words pierced Dahlia’s heart like needles, revealing her little schemes blatantly clear to Malcolm
A wave of humiliation washed over her, and Malcolm’s rejection ignited her competitive spirit.
“Why not choose me? I’m no less than my sister. Plus, she has ulterior motives; she isn’t with you for love, just for climbing the social ladder, for wealth and status.”
“If she wants the whole Flynn family, I’d give it to her without second thought. She’s the wife on my marriage certificate, while you, to me, are nothing. Also, I might not be a man of many talents, but I protect those I care about–no one talks ill about them. Not on my watch.”
Malcolm’s resolute declaration made Dahlia feel foolish; her words were merely a bad joke to him.
She was suddenly at a loss for words.

a finger on her without facing severe consequences from the entire Brooks family.”
He meant every word.
Fear seized Dahlia as she saw the fury in his eyes; her legs gave out and she collapsed to the floor.
How could this be? Wasn’t he supposed to despise Reese? The sheer tovoritism he showed Reese filled her with jealousy
Malcolm had no more time for Dahlia. He looked down on the i disheveled woman with a straight, icy gaze.
“I don’t ever want to hear another disparaging‘ word about my wife from any member of the Brooks family.”
With those words, he strode away, his tall figure gradually disappearing from Dahlia’s view.
Alyssa, concealed behind the rockery, couldn’t help but admire, exclaming. In all these years, I’ve never seen Malcolm stand up so fiercely for anyone. Reese, I’m so envious of you.”
Reese stood nearby, her soul shaken once more. Malcolm’s irrational favoritism struck her heart fiercely and allowed her, for the first time, to gain respect while leaning on someone else.
Only she knew that Malcolm was gradually challenging her initial beliefs, one step at a time, his tenderness softening her resolute heart.
