Chapter 148 Soaring Too Low
Reese felt a refreshing coolness over her wound, soothing and pain–free, as Malcolm’s tender ministrations lulled her to sleep.
When she awoke the next day, her injury was properly treated, the ointment absorbed, and the pain lessened considerably.
Reaching out instinctively, she felt warmth next to her; he must have gotten up not long ago.. As she got up to fetch her clothes from the wardrobe, she noticed that the suit she had hung up the day before was gone.
She figured Malcolm must have worn it. Unsure of his exact size, she had taken a guess, hoping it would fit.
Descending the stairs, she spotted Malcolm already seated at the breakfast nook, with Alyssa and Everly following suit. The moment Alyssa caught sight of Reese, her face lit up with a warm, eager smile.
“Reese, what have you been up to these past few days? We’ve barely seen you around.”
“Just went shopping yesterday,” Reese replied, stretching her neck and trying to suppress a yawn.
Alyssa’s eyes immediately sparkled with curiosity. “Is that suit Malcom’s wearing the one you picked out for him? You know there’s a party tonight, right?”
Leaning in close, Alyssa pressed. “Oh my gosh, Reese, aren’t you the sweetest?”
Reese furrowed her brow and gently pushed Alyssa away, finding het a bit ton clingy lately.
“What party?”
Everly cut in with a mocking tone, “Oh, you don’t know? It’s with the Sue family, long–time friends of our Flynn family. But of course, you’re new to all this and probably unaware. It’s expected that you wouldn’t be informed.”
Alyssa, unfazed, chimed in, “Come with us, Reese. It gets so dull at these things when they’re all mingling, and I’m left on my own.”
To be honest, Reese wasn’t fond of these events either. Her experiences with networking abroad had been overwhelming, often ending up with her overdrinking. Now, the mere thought of such socal functions gave her a headache.
Playing off Everly’s comment, she self–deprecated, ”
“I think I’ll pass.sn’t there a lot to do at the company today?”

“Alyssa, are you out of your mind? Everly interjected. “Reese already said no. Even if she’s married into the Flynn family now, can’t escape her country ways. Tonight’s gathering is filled with business elites. What if she slips up and embarrasses us?”
Everly couldn’t understand why Alyssa had shifted so quickly from disliking Reese to being as clingy as a shadow.
Just as Alyssa was about to defend Reese, Malcolm, seated at the table, spoke up.
“Country
y girl or not, she’s now my wife, Malcolm Flynn’s. And no one is entitled to look down on her, wherever we go.”

His claim was heavy with dominion. In Malcolm’s eyes, if he willed it Reese could do anything–turn the skies upside down, and he’d support her, let alone attend a mere party,

He wasn’t interested in these occasions either, but the thought of attending with Reese piqued his interest. Tonight’s event would be quite the affair with her by his side.
Because of her, all the dullness and boredom were bound to transforms into delight./

Everly had just been radiating an air of arrogance, but Malcolm’s words left h

She couldn’t help but notice that he seemed to be defending Reese. After all, what did it matter that Reese bought him an outfit? The quality and the craftsmanship just couldn’t compare to the custom–made Italian suits he had before.
“Are you really going to wear that cheap suit to the gala?” Everly asked, “The people there have eyes sharper than snakes. They’ll see the price tag on your clothes with just a glance.”
Malcolm set down his coffee cup without haste and cast a casual look at Everly.
Would they look down on me just because I’m wearing an inexpensive sult? If I put someone else in the most expensive suit, but no one even knows his name, what’s the point? Clothes don’t make me; I make the clothes.”
Flustered, Everly didn’t know what to say, Malcolm was right. He didn’t need any embellishments. His presence was the brand.
But she didn’t mean to belittle him; she simply y didn’t like Reese. If only Reese would act more tactfully and show some humility. Everly might have been more forgiving. Instead, Reese was all high and mighty for no good reason–an uppity nobody.
Alyssa was quick to chime in, “Exactly, our Malcolm is a household name. His net worth speaks for itself, not to mention how great Reese’s picked outfit looks on him.”
Everly rolled her eyes at Alyssa, All you’re good at is sucking up.”
With a huff, she left without even touching her breakfast.
Reese casually grabbed an egg sandwich, not giving the earlier squabble a second thought.

Alyssa was confused, “But… What about my car?”
How was she supposed to get back after work?
Reese had just settled into the driver’s seat when Malcolm smoothly opened the passenger
ger door, got in, and closed it behind him.
Reese glanced at him, “Why ditch the luxury car for my Audi? What’s the reason?”
“Just want to be with my wife,” he said warmly, “and experience her riving skills first–hand.”
His playful smile and gentle eyes contrasted starkly with the stern demeanor he had displayed with Everly moments earlier. As Reese caught wind of the idea, a mischievous smile curled up the edges of her eyes. “Sure you want to ride with me?” she teased.
That single question reminded Malcolm of his last adventure in Reese’s car. But, as the saying goes, for better or worse, he had to ride with his wife. So, steeling himself, he climbed in, and as one might expect, the ride was… memorable.
Upon arriving at the office, Reese waved goodbye nonchalantly, leaving Malcolm with a brooding expression. He called after her retreating figure, “Honey, remember we’ve got that party tonight.”
