Chapter 149 Setting Him Up with a Girlfriend
Reese didn’t respond; she had zero interest in going to the party. To her, it was nothing but a time–waster.
By the time she finished her tasks at the office, it was almost seven, Sophia sidled up to her. “Hey Reese, how about hitting up the new grill joint for some BBQ? Heard they’ve got great ribs and briske.”
Sure…
“Reese! Reese!”
Reese was about to agree when Alyssa rushed over in a flurry, lacking any semblance of the directorial dignity she usually carried. Sophia gave Alyssa a puzzled glance.
“Mr. Flynn, you…….
Alyssa waved Sophia off, “It’s fine, go ahead. I’ve got something to discuss with Reese.”
“Oh.” Sophia turned back to Reese, “I’ll wait for you at the entrance.
“No need to wait for her; she’s got to accompany me later to a function. You guys can hang out another time.”
Sophia nodded, “Alright then, I’m off.”
Once Sophia was out of earshot, Alyssa spoke anxiously. “Reese, you’re still thinking of dining out with colleagues?”
Reese raised an eyebrow and smiled lightly. “Why wouldn’t I have the mood for a meal with colleagues?”
“Don’t you know? The host of tonight’s party is a family friend, and they’re planning to introduce Malcolm to a potential girlfriend”
Alyssa had just caught wind of the gossip and had hurried to share it with Reese, hoping to give her a heads up.
She expected Reese to react with some form of outrage or shock, but Reese only nonchalantly acknowledged with an “Oh.”
“Reese, this isn’t the time to act so nonchalant. Malcolm may be your husband, but if a woman is still going for him, knowing full well he’s taken, doesn’t that disrespect you?”
Sometimes Alyssa was in awe of Reese’s calm demeanor as if even the sky falling wouldn’t cause her a hint of distress. Even the possibility of another woman wooing her husband seemed not to disturb her.
Reese usually didn’t sweat the small stuff, but the thought of potentially having to clean up a mess if some women got clingy with Malcolm was definitely not her cup of tea. She wasn’t scared of any homewreckers, but wearing a metaphorical cuckold’s horns wasn’t on her to–do list either.
The thought of giving the guys, particularly Calvin, something to ridicule was not appeating.
Alright, I guess I’ll go play guardian angel for Malcolm, Reese conceled.
With a twinkle in her eye, Alyssa chuckled, “With you there, Reese, no one dares mess with Malcolm.”

“Oh my God, Reese, you’re like a walking mannequin, this dress is definitely going to steal the show!”
Reese’s fair skin and statuesque figure, along with her graceful neck, gave her the appearance of a ballet dancer.
Reese looked decent enough, though she thought the dress was just alright.

She released her hair from the elastic, parted it down the middle, twisted it into a low bun, and let a few strands frame her face. exuding a classical beauty.
Alyssa clapped her hands in admiration, completely wowed.
“Reese, you’re the definition of natural beauty,” she exclaimed.
Even Everly, who attended galas regularly, wouldn’t dare to go so casual with her hair. Even with a professional stylist, her looks didn’t seem as effortlessly stunning as Reese’s.
Reese flashed a sly smile, ‘Cut the flattery, let’s head out. If we get back early, I might even treat myself to some barbecue.”
Alyssa picked up her purse, and they left the office together.

“Mhm,” Reese replied, indifferent.
After shooting a message to Malcolm, Alyssa almost burst into laughter at his response, it was so him:

Pounding her chest and stamping her feet, she fumed, “Before he get married, I always thought that even if he took a wife, he’d probably keep her at arms length. His reserved and calm demeanor made it hard to picture him being warm and affectionate. But you know what? It’s like hes fallen into a pit and can’t pull himself out!”
Reese glanced over the text, a small flutter of excitement stirring within her.
Realizing the shift in her emotions, Reese shook her head. Was she josing her mind? Why–feel excited? Her marriage to Malcolm was only to investigate her grandmother’s death; feelings were never part of the plan.
Regaining her composure, she said, Let’s go, forget about him.
Alyssa wasn’t sure if her eyes had deceived her just moments before she thought she caught a fleeting smile on Reese’s lips, but it vanished as quickly as it appeared.
Before she could ponder it further, Reese was urging her on, and she had to set aside her thoughts to drive them to the hotel.
Upon reaching the hotel lobby, Alyssa offered, “Reese, II

Alyssa kept advising Reese, carefully detailing how to handle any nervousness at the unfamiliar event.

“Yeah, got it. I’m going to grab something to eat, I’m starving.”
“The food is over….
Alyssa was about to tell Reese where the food was located, but Reese was already striding toward the right side of the room.
Alyssa was momentarily puzzled, “How does Reese know where the food is served in this hotel?”
The hotel’s décor was unique, with a circular main hall that could confuse newcomers, yet Reese navigated it with ease.
