Chapter 152 Reese in Trouble
Reese strolled leisurely in the back garden, Alyssa was nowhere in sight. That girl always had her secrets, but Reese wasn’t concerned.

She used to frequent this hotel, the site of many networking events. Since making a name for herself, Reese hadn’t been back.
Reminiscing g over the challenges of dealing with demanding business partners, she acknowledged her current success was hard-
earned.
A waiter passed by. Reese had eaten earlier without drinking much, so she took a glass of wine from the tray.
Preparing to enjoy the view by the poolside, she awaited Malcolm’s return from his engagements.
She had just sat down when Shirley approached, her expression heralding nothing good.
Shirley stood before Reese, gazing down haughtily.
“So, I hear you’re from the sticks. No education, no skills, just an ordinary employee in Malcolm’s company?”
Reese, cradling her wine glass, swirled the contents lazily and, with raise of her brows, retorted coolly.
And how is that your business?”
Shirley was thrown aback by Reese’s disdainful attitude. Brought up as the apple of her parents‘ eye, she had never been treated so casually by anyone before, and Reese’s look of utter contempt made her deeply uncomfortable, as if she was being looked down upon
Yet, how could this woman, who lacked both Shirley’s looks and prestigious family background, be so uppity? Didn’t she understand that society today valued wealth as much as, if not more than, appearance?
What gave her the right
the right to be so arrogantly confident?
After a moment’s consideration, Shirley spoke again, her tone less chil than before, clearly showing irritation.

Reese scoffed at that remark. So, she wanted to compete for her many

the type to resist pressure. The harder someone pushed, the less likely she was to comply.
And Shirley, with her snobbish demeanor, thought she could get away with anything because of her status. Did she believe everyone had to dance to her tune?
Well, Reese was the exception.
Reese slowly stood, cradling her cup, and tilted her chin at Shirley, lier voice dripping with nonchalance.
“Then why don’t you go be his girlfriend? Oh wait, you can’t now. If you insist on a role, you could only be the other woman. But wouldn’t that be a little beneath you? After all, he’s a married man now.”
Shirley was stunned by Reese’s pointed words, which were delivered without the slightest hint of politeness–a stark contrast to her initial grace and supposed easy going nature.

Yet, recalling the social gap between them gave Shirley a boost of confidence.
Straightening her back, she cleared her throat lightly, “I am the heiress of the prestigious Sue family. I would only accept being Malcom’s wife. The role of a mistress is more fitting for those with o pedigree, women desperate to claw their way up using a
man.”
“Malcom, brother?” Reese nearly gagged at the cloying address, giving Shirley a disdainful glance. “Who gave you permission to call my husband that? And who told you that a woman without a pedige has to settle for being the other woman? Haven’t you noticed I’m an exception? I’m his legally wedded wife, thank you very much
Reese stood her ground, her voice steady and firm.
“You…you have no shame!” Shirley’s image of Reese was completely overturned. This delicate–looking woman, who had come across as good–natured, was actually quite the thorn in her side.
She sneered, scanning Reese up and down, ‘Look at that dress. You think you could afford something that nice without Malcolm s help? Cut the act, sweetheart. It’s only your looks that caught Malcolm’s eye. You really think without that he’d give you the time of day?”
Reese cast a sidelong glance at Shirley, her eyes suddenly turning, an aura of danger enveloping her as she took deliberate steps toward Shirley,
“And
just what ‘kind‘ are you calling me?” Reese challenged.
“You’re nothing but a-
Shirley intended to further insult Reese, to put her in her place, but the sharpness in those piercing eyes caused her words to lodge in her throat, unspoken.
Out of the corner of her eye, Shirley noticed Malcolm entering the hall, his gaze searching for something definitely looking for Reese.

A sly, cold smile flickered across Shirley’s face. She didn’t believe for a second that, if she managed to make it look like Reese had pushed her into the pool, Malcolm would still side with Reese.
As she reached out to grab Reese’s arm, Shirley underestimated her opponent. Reese, always quick on her feet, expertly sidestepped the grab.
Shirley had anticipated a struggle, playing the victim as she fell into the pool, but before she could even grasp Reese, momentum sent her lurching forward. Too late to pull back, all that followed was a scream and the splash of water.
Then came Shirley’s cries for help, “Help… I can’t swim!”
Reese was all too aware of the charade.
Instantly, panic–stricken cries from the staff rang

Shaken and chilled from the pool’s cold water, Shirley clung to Sawyer, shivering uncontrollably. “Daddy, I was so scared. I thought Id never see you again.”
Sawyer rubbed her back, comforting her as best he could.
*All right, all right, Shirley, how did you a
end up taking a dive into the pool out of nowhere?”
He knew his daughter was terrified of water and usually stayed as far away from the pool as possible. It didn’t add up that she would get close; something wasn’t right here.
Yet even though Shirley’s plan was foiled, she wasn’t about to take this lying down; without missing a beat, she pointed at Reese, who was standing nearby.
“It was M
Miss Reese, she pushed me.”
Shirley became immediately infuriated and confronted Reese.
“Reese, why did you push my daughter?”
Such setups were all too familiar to Reese – the classic frame job.
She was about to retort when Malcolm stepped in.
“My wife would never do such a thing to your precious Shirley,” he asserted.
Sawyer’s brow furrowed, and the tension between the two men was palpable.
“Oh, Malcolm, you didn’t even see it happen, so how can you be so sure Reese didn’t do it?”
