Chapter 163 The War Between Men
“The top brass says it’s a dangerous mission. The medical team has discovered a drug that can cure cancer, but it’s been stolen. We’ve identified the thief, but we need someone adept at disguise to retrieve it without being detected.”
Reese raised an eyebrow. “So, they chose me for this?”

Jason spread his hands, his eyes full of admiration. “You know, among us, you’re the best of worlds, and with that stunning beauty of yours, you’ll have them surrendering in no time.”
Reese smirked, “You already sent someone, but they messed up, right

Talking about that incident was sort of embarrassing. They were so close to pulling it off, but then someone on their team got cold feet, probably scared of being exposed or worrying about their boyfriend getting the wrong idea..
Reese shot Jason a sideways glance. “Who said I have a boyfriend? I a married woman,
thank you very much.”
“Isn’t your husband dealing with a disability? Besides, he doesn’t even know who you really are. Bet he hasn’t even gotten the chance to lay a finger on you.”
Jason didn’t know much about Malcolm; he was always abroad. If it weren’t for this emergency, and hearing that Reese had gotten hitched, he wouldn’t have flown back all this way.
He had intended to ask Reese why she married into the Flynn family. He’d thought eventually they’d end up together, especially since they were seen by everyone in their circle as the perfect match, almost destined. After all, he knew Reese a bit better than the
rest.
But, surprise surprise, Reese had gone and tied the knot in secret, and to a guy who was paralyzed from the waist down, no less. He was shocked and angry.
Reese, hearing Jason’s opinion of Malcolm, suddenly felt irked. She wasn’t one to hide her feelings, especially in front of someone
she trusted.
Before Jason could figure it out, he felt a chill. Looking up, he saw Reese’s face had gone ice–cold, her usually bright eyes now swirling with fury.
She reminded him with a steely look, “Regardless, he’s my husband now, and I don’t appreciate anyone speaking ill of him. Keep it up, and you and I are going to have a problem.”
Jason was not used to Reese defending someone else in front of him. A moment of surprise flashed followed by a twinge of heartache, though he didn’t show it.
He felt showing any sign of being upset in front of Reese would seem petty, somehow,
He could only chuckle awkwardly. “Alright, alright, no more badmouthing your husband. You’re already playing defense for him.”
“About the assignment, I’m in, Reese replied crisply.
Jason raised an eyebrow. “You don’t want to think

“If I said no, wouldn’t that be a bit rude ufter you came all this way?!”
“Cut the act. I know you too well. You play it cool, like nothing matters, but you care more than anyone.

medicine could end up the wrong hands, turning what should be used for healing into a weapon.”
Jason was well aware of why Reese was willing to risk it all. She understood as well; they were both part of the medical world. Being a doctor meant saving lives was part of the job for her.
Yet, sometimes she could be selfish, in her own way. Reese was a complicated one, that was for sure.
By then, the food was ready, Reese picked up her fork, smoothly changing the subject.
“Finish up
p your grub and book your ass back home, pronto. I don’t have time to play host.”
“That’s rather harsh. I wonder how your husband tolerates such treatment.”
Reese snorted softly. That’s none of your

Just as she said that, the phone on Reese’s table buzzed. Looking down, she noticed Husband flashing on the screen.

Jason caught a glimpse and chuckled. “Well, looks like our Reese has finally fallen for someone. I’ve never seen you so sweet on anyone before.”
Man, this guy just tied the knot with her, and he’s already got her jumping to his defense, Jason was actually quite curious to meet
him.
But it wasn’t just that. A string of new texts from “Husband” popped up.
“I swear I can hear my wife singing my praises.”
“Honey, I’m just behind you.”

Malcolm’s gaze was tender as he rested his hands on her soft shoulders, guiding her back into her seat.
I came to handle some stuff, babe. Next time, let me know when you’re meeting a friend, so I can join you.”
With a slight nod toward Jason, he introduced himself.
“Hey there, I’m Malcolm, Reese’s other halfTM
Reese had just taken a sip of water to calm her nerves when Malcolm mentioned his pet name for her – almost causing her to spit it

When did he start with these cheesy nicknames? It made her skin crawl.
Jason hadn’t expected Malcolm to be like this. He always thought ofhimself as the m circle, but seeing Malcolm, he felt a twinge of jealousy.

Extending his hand, the two men shook.
“Pleasure to meet you. I’m Jason.”
Their handshake looked simple enough, but Reese could see the veins on their hands standing out, a silent battle of strength, all behind cordial smiles. You’d think they were best buddies.
Malcolm’s lips curved in a slight, sardonic smile.
“So, you’re Reese’s…
“I’m her friend, Jason quickly retorted, swiftly adding, “A very good friend.”
Reese was getting annoyed with their endless back and forth. She turned to Malcolm and said, “Weren’t you here on business? handle that.”
With a brooding gaze sweeping the diner, Malcolm feigned frustration. “Had an appointment with a client, but looks like they’re tied up today. Guess they won’t make it.”
Reese smirked, thinking to herself how good he was at pretending.
Jason, seizing the opportunity, chimed in, “Since the client’s a no–show, why not sit down with us, Mr. Flynn? Maybe get to kno bit about Reese’s tastes. She’s pretty picky about her food
something you might not know yet.”
