on having lunch together? What a joke! She felt utterly
Reese awkwardly covered her face. What were these two up to, insisting on h uncomfortable.
Malcolm was about to accept the invitation. “Sure…”
“Jason,
need to get back to work soon: I should head out. She stood up, pushing her chair back, ready to leave. She had no desire
to be part of a men’s war.
“Reese, but you haven’t even eaten yet?”
Jason scrambled to stop her. This girl, what was going on with her? She was never scared of anything before. It wasn’t like her to dodge and weave like she did today.
Could it be that
it be that she actually had a thing for Malcolm?
Just then, Malcolm caught hold of Reese’s wrist. “Honey, have some lunch before you go. Don’t want you going hungry this
afternoon.”
Jason’s eyes narrowed displeasure as Malcolm called Reese “honey.” He took note of Reese’s reaction; not a hint of reluctance or surprise. It seemed this wasn’t the first time she’d been addressed that way.
Malcolm was quite something, he had to admit.
Jason regained his composure before speaking to Reese again, “I came all this way to see you, and you won’t even stay for lunch? Afraid of what your husband might think?”
Reese wasn’t having it. “What’s there for him to misunderstand? Were just…”
Malcolm cut her off with a gentle voice, “I trust my wife. No need for her to explain anything to me.”
He then affectionately wrapped an arm around her shoulder. Reese shot him a glare, silently observing him continue the charade, speaking words that contradicted his feelings.
If he wasn 1 suspicious of her, why would he have followed her here? Pretending to have a client, did he think she was just another fool?
Reese reached around and pinched his lower back sharply, her gaze piercing as she hissed, “Is that so?”
Malcolm winced as a sharp pain shot through him, but a smile still lingered on his face.
Of course,
course,” he said with a grin.
The playful banter between the two was blatant flirtation to Jason, who knew all too well Reese’s usual demeanor around men. Unless she was comfortable and gave her consent, no one could so much as brush against her, let alone wrap an arm around her as Malcolm did with such ease.
Reese was never one to joke around with the opposite sex casually. She was always all business, straight to the point, never wasting words on idle chatter.
Inson had hung around Reese long enough to joke with her, and just how, he had wanted to hug her too. But thinking of her reservations, he held back. It was ironic how in just a few months, Malcolm had gotten closer to Reese than he had in all this time.

sense of defeat, and in front of Malcolm, a twinge of inadequacy. These two were going to be the death of him.
Jason forced a smile, “Hey, can you two cool it with the PDA? It’s kinda rough for us single folks. Let’s just sit down and eat, alright?
At Jason’s repeated urging, Reese finally took her seat at the dining chair.
She started on the fish, then eyed the shrimp on Jason’s plate with keen interest.
Malcolm caught on and spoke up. “You want some shrimp? Let’s order another plate.”
Right as Malcolm was about to call the waiter over, lason clapped his hands together. “No need. That shrimp is for Reese. She loves them but hates peeling them. So, that’s my job,” he said and passed the plate to her without hesitation.
Reese accepted it without any proton
any pretense.
Taken aback, Malcolm scooped the plate of shrimp from in front of Reese to his own side, prompting a puzzled look from her.

“If you want some, just order more. Don’t take mine,” she said.
“Il feed you,” Malcolm said, picking up a fork and holding a shrimp to her lips in a coaxing manner. “Honey, open up.”
Reese was somewhat abashed as she listened to his seductive voice and saw the tenderness in his eyes. Her heart raced and her checks flushed with a faint red.
She gave a small tug at the corner of her mouth, reaching for the fort
“I can manage,” she insisted, indicating she wasn’t one to be waited on hand and foot.
Malcolm withdrew the fork just as she reached for it, “Babe, let me serve you, all right?”
Reese was mortified. She thought she had thick skin, but today she realized that in front of him, her defenses were just child’s play.
Perhaps it was the good looks of the people at the table, but other patrons couldn’t help but glance over and discuss among themselves.
“My God, this guy feeding shrimp is such a gentleman, and way too thoughtful. And handsome to boot? Plus, he’s totally devoted to his wife.”
“His voice is so soothing; I can already picture him as a domineering CEO.”
“He’s probably a big shot in real life. I mean, look at his clothes they scream bespoke. You can’t find that off–the–rack.”
“That’s impressive!”
“I’ve seen those
types of suits in ads before. It’s definitely high–end,
“While you’re all focused on him, I can’t help but notice the guy in the grey suit across from him. Don’t you think he looks miserable? There he is, just trying to eat his meal, and he has to witness this over–the–top PDA. The worst part is, he has to fake a smile through it all.”
“Ha! True that. If that were me, I’d just get up and leave. Can’t handle that level of third–wheeling.”
Malcolm wasn’t the least bit worried that Reese wouldn’t play along his eyes were filled with confident determination.
He raised an eyebrow at Reese. “Honey, with everyone watching, lets save face, okay?”
Reese glared at him. “That’s your face on the line, not min

Reese chuckled awkwardly, giving him a sidelong glance.
“Sure sounds like I should be thanking you for saving my reputation.
Malcolm, undeterred by her sarcasm and with a maddeningly smug smile, simply nodded.
you–too.”
“It’s what a husband should do. No need for applause. If you really want to show your gratitude, we can take care of that at home.”
The innuendo, combined with his suggestive valce, made Reese blush even harder. In an attempt to hide her embarrassment, she bit

into a shrimp.
Jason, sitting opposite them, was on the verge of a meltdown. He quickly stood up.
“I’m full, you guys enjoy your meal.”
“Come on, have a little more, Malcolm insisted, noting Jason’s barely touched plate.
Jason cast a disgusted glance at the couple.
Reese, busy eating her shrimp, casually waved him off.
“Thanks for the

“Yeah, right. When have you ever treated? Don’t forget what I told you.”
As Jason got up and reached for his card to pay, Malcolm pressed his hand down.
“I ll cover it, since you’re a friend of Reese’s,” he said.
Reese snorted with a shrug, the irony of Malcolm’s sudden courtesy not lost on her, considering his earlier display of possessiveness.
Soon after, Malcolm signaled the waiter, who approached respectfully and greeted him.
“Mr. Flynn.”
“Put the bill for this table on my account.”
“Yes, sir,” the walter nodded and headed for the front desk.
Jason’s face flickered with a hint of surprise. Wow, the whole restaurant was Malcolm’s turf. Looks like Reese really teamed up with a powerhouse this time. No wonder she made an exception and got lutched.
