// tried to de–escalate the situation. “Reese, let’s not do anything tash. Dahlia didn’t really say anything to hurt you. There’s no
need for this kind of hostility between you two.”
Reese narrowed her eyes dangerously, a flash of menace gleaming in them as she raised her voice. “Oh? So it’s only an insult if it’s directed at me?”
Silva spread his hands with a placating smile. Well, what else?”
“I’m truly sorry, but in my world, you can’t bad–mouth me or my people without consequences. It’s like slapping me in the face,” Reese said calmly but with a firm edge to her voice.
It really would be pathetic if she couldn’t protect those she cared about.
Silva, however, seemed to admire Reese’s tenacity. “Didn’t expect Reese to be so protective of her crew.”
As Dahlia watched Silva disregard her wellbeing, cozying up to Reese instead, she bristled with anger. As a woman herself, how could she not see that Silva was clearly smitten with Reese?
Fury twisted her features as she turned on Silva. “Silva, do you even care if I live or die? Who is supposed to be your girlfriend?”
Surprisingly. Silva didn’t lose his temper young and doesn’t know any better.”

felt an inherent fear of Reese. Yet, it was this very fear that compelled her to oppose Reese.
Why was it that being a daughter of the Brooks family meant Reese got all the looks? Dahlia used to be the one showered with compliments everywhere she went, but ever since word got out about Reese’s return, that praise had dried up.

Now wasn’t the time to prove anything, though. She had this nagging feeling gamble with her life.
In the end, Dahlia backed down. “Reese, please, I get it now. I was wrong.”
Reese didn’t want to waste any more time with Dahlia. If it weren’t for her stirring up trouble, she wouldn’t even bother exchanging pleasantries.
She was willing to let it go, but not without making her point clear. “If I were you, I wouldn’t tempt fate. I’d stay far, far away from

“Okay, okay, Reese, please just let me go.”
Only then did Reese let her go and put away her silver pin, shouting Dahlia a warning glance. Realizing she was in her way, Dahlia quickly stepped aside.
Together with Silva, she watched Reese gradually fade from their sight
Dahlia was iivid, stomping her feet with rage as she stared in the direction Reese had left.

Silva watched with undeniable intrigue and couldn’t help but praise Reese, “You know, Reese sure has a unique way about her.”
Dahlia shot Silva a glare. “Unique? She’s a freak, that’s what she is. Nobody’s got guts like her!”
Silva wrapped his arms around Dahlia in a comforting embrace, “Take it easy, lets not get worked up. Well just keep our distance from her from now on, okay?”
However, Dahlia wasn’t one to let things

“No way, I need to turn this around. She dared to have lunch with another man behind Malcolm’s back today. If Malcolm finds out. she’s in for it the Flynn family values would never allow Reese to make a cuckold out of Malcolm.”
Silva frowned. “So what do you plan to do?”

Dahlia snorted dismissively. “You might be afraid of her, but I’m not just wait and see, this time, I’ll make sure she’s out of the Flynn family for good.”
After Reese returned to her office, she was barely up the steps when her phone rang. It was Kenneth. She answered, but her tone was clearly irritable.
“What’s up?”
“Your sister told me you almost killed her on the street today with a pin. Reese, have you lost your mind? No matter how bad she is,
she’s still your sister.”
Kenneth was almost scared to death when he heard Dahlia’s story, and he certainly didn’t expect Reese to be so wild, to take such risks in public.
Reese’s eyes narrowed dangerously, and her gaze turned frosty as shi responded sharply to Kenneth.
“You’re a man who abandoned his wife, his daughter, and doesn’t even care for his own mother, what right do you have to question
“How dare you! I am your father!”
“Father?” Reese let out a scoff tinged with mockery. “Kenneth, why don’t you ask your own conscience if you’re fit to be called a
father?”
She remembered all too well how he had neglected her throughout her childhood. When she had a severe fever, and the town doctor was at a loss, her grandmother, with no money to spare, had to carry her through a stormy night to the Brooks family doorstep, begging Kenneth for help.
But what had he done? He hadn’t even opened the door; he just had the staff send her grandmother and her away. If it weren’t for the villagers who raised money for her treatment, Reese might not even be alive today.
Kenneth was even more infuriated by Reese’s blunt words. He was the patriarch, used to being obeyed. Nancy and Dahlia would never dare to speak to him that way. How dare Reese show such insubordination.
On the phone, Kenneth launched into his tirade. “Reese, so you’ve grown some backbone, huh? Daring to talk back to me now? Even if you’ve married into the Flynns, remember you’ve got my blood. Without me, where would you be?”
“Who’d choose to be born into the Brooks family? You gave me life, sure, but you’ve never once acted like a father. When I took Dahlia’s place and agreed to marry Malcolm, that settled any debt of gratitude 1 had for you.”
Reese refused to be guilt–tripped by anyone. She knew right from wrong and insisted on calling the shots in hortife and in her daily affairs.
After all, she was the one experiencing life’s flavors – the good and the bad. Why should she bend her principles because of someone else’s words?
Kenneth was so infuriated by Reese’s defiance that he was nearly at risk of a heart attack, his words coming out in a stutter.
You… are you trying to kill me?”
“Hardly,” she retorted, her voice feisty. “If you’ve got the energy to pick fights, tell your darling daughter to quit bugging me. Ima thorn in everyone’s side, best left alone if you know what’s good for you!!

success hinged on timing and access.
Yet she needed an excuse, a way to sidestep Malcolm. That man was suspicious by nature, and she couldn’t guarantee she’d be able to pull the wool over his eyes.
Danger loomed over her mission, but she harbored no regrets. She was more than a person; she was a doctor, and that carried responsibility,
