Chapter 170 A Little Credit for Hubby-
Alyssa’s nod was filled with earnestness. “Indeed, Reese, I’m praising you. I encountered a fellow player in the game who invited mi to join him tonight. He’s clueless about my lack of skill. Could you perhaps assist me?”
Reese was nonchalant; she hadn’t made any plans for the evening. However, she felt the need to caution Alyssa.
“Remember, you can’t keep this a secret indefinitely. What if I’m not available one day? How will you manage then?”
Alyssa responded with a casual shrug, “No worries, I’ve been diligently practicing these past few days. But I’m still far from your level.”
She had recently reviewed the games that Reese had played on her behalf, awestruck by Reese’s ability to predict the opponents moves and time her own with precision.
Reese might come across as detached, even standoffish, but Alyssa knew she was astute, possessing an uncanny ability to read the room and know exactly when to act or refrain,
The more Alyssa pondered, the more she was convinced that Reese was the champion gamer from the previous year’s Intrigued, she decided to probe further.
s tournament.
“Reese, that gameplay footage I showed you last time, are you sure you’re not the player? The style, even the item builds, are strikingly similar.”
Reese’s eyes flickered, amused by Alyssa’s persistent curiosity. She casually dismissed it with a white lie. “I used to be a fan too and studied her videos. But that was when I was obsessed; I hardly play nymore.
Their conversation was engaging and enjoyable.
However, the atmosphere was far from jovial on Everly’s side. Malcolm stood against the wall, arms folded, his
gaze frosty.
“Everly, how long do you plan to keep treating my wife this way?”
Everly couldn’t bear hearing Malcolm so protective of Reese. Her beatifully made–up face flushed with anger, and her voice rose several notches.
“Malcolm, you barely know anything about Reese. How can you so casually refer to her as your wife? What if she harbors ulterior motives towards the Flynn family?”
His eyes that were calm just moments ago, now harbored a chilling darkness as he spoke in a low, menacing voice.
“Do not address me like that!”
Everly, her heart pounding, advanced, seeking the comfort of his embrace, only to be held back. Malcolm’s hands gripped her shoulders, keeping her at a distance.
Tears welled up in Everly’s eyes as she looked up at the handsome free she had yearned for over the years.
“Why can’t I call you that? You share blood with Alyssa, not with met
“Its irrelevant. I’ve always considered you as my sister. Don’t cross that line; it I make things difficult for everyone. And let me reiterate, from the day Reese married into the Flynn family and save me, she became my wife, my love, and I wont let anyone hurm her.”
With those final words, Malcolm stormed out, slangming the door behind him, leaving Everly standing there, foolish and still, his

Why did it have to be like this? Why reject her devotion? She was the overshadowed by a country girl who was new to the Flynns.

It wasn’t fair. She couldn’t accept it. Malcolm was meant for her and her alone. She deserved him. They were family, after all; nobody knew him better. Reese was nothing in comparison.
Upon returning to the living room, Malcolm saw Alyssa still engrossed in conversation with Reese. He rarely witnessed Reese, patiently listening to Alyssa’s chatter. Sometimes even he found it hard to bear. Their efforts over time hadn’t been in vain; his beloved wife was showing signs of change.

Yet, he fonged for the day when Reese would fully open up, allowing others to truly understand her, instead of keeping everyone at a distance with her facade of strength masking a brittle care.
He approached them, “Enough chatting, ladies; dinner’s nearly ready. Let’s go present Grandpa with his gift.”
Alyssa, intrigued, asked Malcolm, “Bro, what gift did you get for Grandpa? He always adores your presents.”
“You’ll find out soon,” Malcolm replied, then turned to Reese, “Darling, if you don’t feel like going, feel free to take a stroll outside. 111 come find you later.”
Alyssa was puzzled, “Bro, why wouldn’t Reese go? Didn’t you get Grandpa’s gift for her to present?”
“She…” Reese interrupted, extending her hand, “The gift–hand it over. I’ll
accompany you.”
Malcolm was about to explain that Reese didn’t enjoy such gatherings and should be left alone when she abruptly expressed her willingness to join.
A brief flicker of surprise danced in his eyes, quickly replaced by tenderness.
He moved to embrace Reese, but she sidestepped his attempt.
“You know I don’t appreciate being touched.”
“We’ve already kissed; what harm would a hug do?” Without a second thought, Malcolm drew Reese into his arms. She tried to wriggle free, but his lips found her ear, whispering a reminder.
“There’s a crowd of relatives watching. Can’t you play along for your husband’s sake, darling?”
With t
that, he audaciously planted a kiss on Reese’s forehead.
Alyssa stood by, her face buried in her hands, her feet stomping in excitement.
“Ugh, I’m stuffed, I’m stuffed! Can’t you two refrain from public displays of affection? Haven’t you had the entire evening for that?”
She resented their public display, feeling like the ultimate third wheel in their
presence,
Soon, the trio approached Grandpa Flynn who was engrossed in conversation with relatives. Spotting a woman in a tight dress, Alyssa quickly leaned in to whisper to Reese.
See that woman in the green dress? One of the most formidable elders in the Flynn family. She’ll undoubtedly barrage you with questions, so tread carefully.”
Reese gestured confidently with her hand, her eyes devoid of fear.
Alyssa’s face lit up with a radiant smile as she presented her gift.
“Happy Birthday, Grandpa! Wishing you endless wealth and a long, healthy life.”
In this family, Alyssa was the youngest and clearly Grandpa Flynn’s favorite. His face practically split with joy while he affectionately ruffled her hair.
“You little charmer, you always know how to brighten your grandpa day. By the way, is Lucinda around?”

As Alyssa turned to look, her smile instantly faded.
“Lucinda.
When Lucinda saw Alyssa, her face was all smiles, though it seemed slightly forced.
“Alyssa, it’s Grandpa’s birthday today. Why didn’t you bring a boyfriend home?”
Alyssa rolled her eyes. The same old question every year. Couldn’t Lucinda come up with something new to say?
Her retort was the same as always.
“Still no boyfriend, but plenty of girlfriends. Lucinda, care to meet them next time?”
At that, Lucinda’s face blanched, and her voice squeaked an octave higher.
“Hey, hey, don’t talk nonsense, kiddo. There’s no one in our family like that. If you liked girls, that would just about do old Gran in, wouldn’t it?
Grandpa Flynn knew Alyssa never took to Lucinda, finding her a bit of a chatterbox, but she was family after all. One must mind their words when dealing with family.
“Alyssa, how can you speak to Lucinda like that? She’s just concerned for you.”
“Who needs her concern? She’d be better off keeping an eye on her son, who’s always stirring up trouble. What a disgrace.”
