Chapter 175 Why Don’t You Check It?-1
Lucinda felt utterly humiliated, compelled to apologize to Reese in front of everyone, becoming the object of their amusement. It was astonishing how this young woman had such a talent for putting people in their place.
There was no longer any need to involve Grandpa Flynn in this matter. The authenticity of Reese’s gift was clear for all to see, and It had undoubtedly made Grandpa Flynn’s day, Lacinda was aware that she no longer held any significance.
Upon observing Lucinda’s reluctant apology, Reese accepted it gracefully, “Alright, Lucinda, you wronged me and now you’re apologizing. I accept your apology.”
“Lucinda, be mindful of your words and actions from now on. We’re all family here and can overlook your impulsiveness, but don’t make a spectacle of yourself in public. Even if you are an elder, don t behave like a neighborhood gossip. Show some decorum.”
Lucinda’s anger ignited once more at Reese’s words.
“I apologized because I honor my promises. That doesn’t give you the right to lecture me! Malcolm, look at the kind of wife you’ve brought into this family!”
Malcolm remained silent, seemingly content to let Reese handle the situation, even going as far as showing some public affection right in front of Lucinda.
“Lucinda, there’s nothing wrong with my bride. She’s Grandpa’s choice for me. Are you suggesting his judgment is flawed?”
“I didn’t mean that, when did I ever say that Grandpa Flynn’s judgment was off? But you, my dear…”
“Yolanda, enough already. You’re making a spectacle of yourself, Grandpa Flynn interjected, cutting her off mid–sentence.
Embarrassed, Lucinda fell silent: “Yes, sir.”
Grandpa Flynn then addressed the gathering, “I’m grateful to have all of you here to celebrate my birthday. I appreciate everyone making the trip. Eat, drink, and be merry! If you need anything, just let us know. And Reese, thank you for the gift–it means a lot
to me.
Alyssa was thrilled for Reese and whispered to her, “That’s Grandpaving you his seal of approval, Reese. Your patience has finally paid off.”
Reese felt Alyssa might have misunderstood and clarified, “I wasn’t sing to win over Grandpa Flynn.”
Reese had never sought to curry favor with anyone. She didn’t care

some people didn’t like her. She couldn’t force anyone to like
Everything she did was purely to show her gratitude to Malcolm for his kindness over the years, nothing more. As for the tea set, was a small connection she had with Mr. Van. It hadn’t been easy to utain, but compared to others, she’d had a bit of an advantage.
Alyssa’s eyes widened in surprise, “If you weren’t trying to impress andpa, then why such an extravagant gift?
It wasn’t just about money, the gift was something money couldn’t bay. Reese was indeed fortunate to have stumbled upon such a rare find.
Reese decided not to reveal the full story to Alyssa, who was kind–hearted but might Inadvertently spill the beans to Malcolm.
Al times, Reese wondered if she was losing her mind ur simply delicious when she thought of embarrassing Malcolm or when she couldn’t beat to see him feign indifference when she knew he cared

Ordinarily, she was a tough woman, capable of walking away from anything, including her own life, let alone for the sake of a man.
Now, reflecting on her actions, she realized she must have been out of her mind to go to such lengths for him.
“Enough about that. Weren’t you asking for help with a video game? Reese quickly changed the subject.
The mention of gaming ignited a spark in Alyssa’s eyes. She nodded excitedly, “Yes, yes, help me level up today, Reese.”
The more victories she achieved, the more followers she’d gain on her streaming channel.
Everly passed by and scoffed at Alyssa, “Is gaming all you ever think about? What else is going on in that brain of yours, or is it all just pixels and loot drops now?”
That explained why she was always so out of touch.
Alyssa didn’t take Everly’s words to heart at all.
“Look, I’m not dumb, without Reese, there’s no way my fan base would have exploded. You’re just jealous because she’s more
attractive than you.”
“Pasht, as if I’m anything less than pretty myself. What’s there to be jealous about?
“You’re not unattractive, but Reese is in a different league.” Alyssa continued her verbal sparring with Everly, neither willing to back
down.
Reese couldn’t stand the bickering–it was like listening to children squabble. She turned to Alyssa and said, “I’m going to go change my clothes.”
Alyssa nodded, “Sure Reese, go ahead.-
Everly shot Alyssa a sharp look.
“Still better than you.”

Reese watched the two continue their spat as she headed upstairs. The noise in the crowded hall was so loud it gave her a headache.
She had just returned to her room, about to rest, when Malcolm smoothly emerged from the bathroom. Even his quiet steps put Reese on high alert.
She looked into Malcolm’s eyes and instantly understood his intention.
“Were you going to ask about the table and the tea set?”
“Weren’t you the one who said you didn’t want to waste time with meaningless, flashy gifts?” Malcolm remembered clearly. Reese didn’t appreciate superficial, insincere gestures, and he was prepared for the inevitable gossip. But that didn’t mean he’d let anyone speak ill of Reese..
To his surprise, his wife had managed to stun him with such an unexpected gift.
Reese just shrugged indifferently. “Made up my mind at the last minute.”
“Oh really? Then, wife, care to share with your husband how you managed to secure such an expensive gift? Mr. Van didn’t charge you? Just because you saved him, he gave you this valuable present)
Malcolm was skeptical of Reese’s explanation; his wife was cunning, always managing to wrap him around her finger with the perfect excuse.
And as much as he knew it, he had no recourse.
He lacked evidence; even interrogation seemed futile and there was still the unresolved issue of his project being intercepted- without a single lead.
At first, he thought Reese might just be somewhat prestigious in the medical field, but now he suspected her capabilities far exceeded just that. Within just a few months of marriage, she had given him plenty of surprises.
Reese’s eyes were clear and bright, “Don’t you agree that a
Don’t you agree that a life is worth more than some pieces of wood?”
If she hadn’t been there to save Mr. Van, he probably wouldn’t have made it to a hospital.
Malcolm chuckled sarcastically, “My wife surely has a way with words always so eloquent.”
He found himself utterly speechless in his defense,
The story had already hit the news, and there was no mistaking R
Reese’s figure on the screen. Any attempt to find flaws now seemed like nitpicking.
Yet, he was truly grateful to his wife.
Malcolm sidled up to Reese and, catching her off guard, planted a quick kiss on her cheek. By the time she registered what had happened, her cheek was already damp, and a chill settled in her eye

not. Was she to admit the truth–that it was a lapse of judgment that led her to act this way? Of course no
Reese stubbornly persisted in denial: “Who told you I gave Grandpa the gift for your sake?”
Malcolm’s dark eyes sparkled with a mischievous allure that left Reck momentarily captivated, despite her aversion to such flippant
men.
Yet when Malcolm spoke, she felt no annoyance, only an intoxicating charm.
She must be losing her mind to find this man attractive; he was nothing more than a handsome facade. What lay beneath, nobody knew.
The greater the expectations, the deeper the disappointment. In the honeymoon phase, he finds everything about you endearing. but as time wears on, mundane issues erode that until your quirks become nagging, your coquettishness transforms into theatrics, and your kindness is perceived as weakness.
Then, when another woman takes your place, you’re left like discarded metal, your youth wasted, with nothing but bitter consequences.
She didn’t want that life, nor did she want to gamble on love. Why bother with romance when making money was much more satisfying?
Malcolm, oblivious to Reese’s turmoil, yearned for another tender moment. He wrapped his arms around her waist from behind brushed his warm lips near her ear. Reese pushed him away.
and
“Malcolm, I didn’t give that gift for you. It was just to divert the Flynns‘ attention from me. I don’t mind the drama, but I could do without the constant buzzing in my ear.”
She hoped these words would give him some self–awareness, but his response was unexpectedly refreshing.
“Regardless, you made me proud today, honey. What do you want in turn?”
“Just keep your distance, and we’ll be good,” she said, her gaze averted. Being around him too much could cloud her thoughts, affecting her judgment.
Malcolm’s eyes narrowed slightly as they stood close. The crisp cedar scent emanating from him was intoxicating, and his warm breath tickling her ear made Reese’s cheeks flush with a softness she hadn’t expected. There was something about his presence that unsettled her.
Honey, if I’m not hovering around you, would you really prefer I did that with other women?” he teased.
Reese certainly didn’t want Malcolm making her look foolish. She had to maintain appearances, right?
