A realization dawned on Reese upon hearing Nancy’s words. No wonder Nancy had been avoiding eye contact, looking guilty. She had been conspiring with Dahlia all along. Reese was unaware of the supposed family scandal; they were probably just throwing around baseless accusations.
Both Nancy and Dahlia had the audacity to plot against her; it was clear they were in need of a lesson.
Grandpa Flynn turned to Malcolm. “Malcolm, was Reese with you just now?”
Malcolm looked at Reese with a complex expression. Reese met his gaze squarely, her expression unflinching and haughty, not showing a hint of submission.

“Alyssa, don’t be rude to our guest,” Grandpa Flynn interjected sternly, then turned to Silva. “Mr. Morris, can you tell me if you were with Reese just now?”

Upon hearing that, Dahlia burst into tears. “Silva, haven’t I treated you well enough? Why are you doing this to me?”
Silva hurriedly tried to reassure her. “Dahlia, calm down, 1- I just g
gut confused for a moment. Nothing happened between Reese and
me.”
“But you two were caught in an embrace! How can you stand there and deny it!” Dahlia’s tearful, pitiful state drew sympathetic looks from everyone present.
Mr. Morris really crossed the line with the Flynn family, didn’t he? It’s like he slapped the whole family in the face.”
“Poor Miss Everly. She came here to c celebrate Grandpa Flynn’s birthday with her boyfriend and ended up in this mess. I doubt the sisters will be able to patch things up easily after this.”
“Seriously! What’s with Malcolm’s wife pulling a stunt like this? If word gets out, what’s going to happen to the Flynn family’s honor?”

Everly wanted to confront Reese, but she hesitated, aware of Reese’s combat skills. Though she backed down, her words did not.
“Reese, you did this on purp
purpose, didn’t you? You wanted to hurt Grandpa, and you think this will just make everything go away?”
Reese ignored Everly completely, checked Grandpa Flynn’s condition briefly, then turned to Alyssa.
“Grab the syringe from my suitcase; it’s in a box.”
Alyssa, visibly shaken and trusting Reese implicitly, dashed upstairs without a moment’s hesitation.
Lucinda, frantic, said, “Reese, have you lost your mind? Do you want grandpa Flynn to die? He has fainted, and you’re not taking
him to the hospital. If this turns out to be serious, you can’t handle the consequences.”

Facing the anxious crowd, Reese turned to Malcolm. “Tell them to give him some space to breathe.”
Malcolm nodded, stood up, and addressed the crowd. “Please, step back for a moment.”
Lucinda was shocked to see Malcolm taking Reese’s advice. “Malcolm have you lost it? Reese is trying to harm Grandpa Flynn, and you’re delaying getting him emergency help.”
“Lucinda, you’d do better to help me with the guests rather than bothering my wife while she’s trying to save Grandpa,” Malcolm said, his eyes a tumultuous sea of anger that seemed to envelope his entire being. Lucinda was so intimidated by his demeanor that her heart raced, and she dared not make another sound.
Everly stopped forward and took Malcolm’s arm. “Bro, you can’t just listen to Reese. If something happens to Grandpa, we can’t be responsible for that.”
Malcolm locked eyes with Everly for a few seconds before firmly removing her hand. “I believe in her,” he stated resolutely.
Frustrated to the point of near madness, Everly pleaded, “Bro… why won’t you listen to me? Reese is an outsider. Even if you trust her, if anything goes wrong, who’s going to be accountable?”
“It’ll be me, Malcolm asserted once more with unwavering determination. “I’ll take responsibility.”
Reese observed Malcolm with surprise shining in her eyes. Her heart felt a sharp twinge of pain. She hadn’t thought it through; she was just driven by a desire to help.
