Chapter 21 Betting on Yourself to Win?
Reese could tell there was more to
to Everly’s swords than met the eye.
As Everly kept yapping. Reese’s frustration grew, her brows knitting together and her brown eyes flashing with impatience
Out of nowhere, Reese raised her voice, “Miss Flynn, where do you want me to sit.?”
Everly shot her a look that could kill. Was Reese trying to make her go deal?
She pointed to a dusty comer. “Over there. And clean it up yourself”
Reese glanced over. The dust was so thick you could write your name in it, and the spot was totally out of the way.
Everly’s plan was obvious. She wanted everyone to see Reese as the unwanted newbie, hoping they d all gang up on her.
But Everly was in for a a surprise. If she thought Reese would just take it, she was in for a rude awakening.
erly thought she was about to get an earful, giving her the perfect chance to flex her authority.
Seeing Reese frown, Everly
“What, Reese, you got a problem with my setup?”
“Nope, I love it. Nice and quiet for work. Thanks, Miss Flynn.”
Reese’s attitude was all su
sunshine and rainbows, complete with a smile.
Everly was thrown off. Why was Reese suddenly so chill?
Seeing Reese smile like she just won the lottery only made Everly more ticked off. She snapped, “Well, enjoy your peace and quiet. “
And with that, Everly stormed off in a huff.
Reese’s smile disappeared in a Mash. She headed to her designated spot and started cleaning, humming a little tune as she worked.
The other colleagues exchanged confused glances.
“Is Reese clueless? Does she not get what that spot means? And she’s still willing to sit there.”
“If she’s not playing some deep game, then she’s just plain dumb.”
“But we all know how Miss Flynn rolls. We all heard her. Reese better watch her back.”
“I bet the won’t last a month before she bails.”
“Same here. I’m in. Loser buys dinner,”
In the end, everyone was betting that Reese would be out of the company within a month. No one thought she’d stick around.
Jor colleague frowned, “What do we do? If no one bets shell stay, we can’t make a proper bet.”
Suddenly, a voice cut through the chatter.

But that wasn’t their problem. As long as someone bet against them, they were sure they’d win.

“Alright, it’s a deal then. Loser buys dinner.”
“How about this? Since you’re all so confident, let’s up the ante. Loser buys dinner at the priciest restaurant in town.
Reese said it so casually, it nearly made everyone’s jaws drop.
“Alright, then we can all look forward to a fancy meal, someone chimed in.
Reese flashed a devilish grin. Who’d actually enjoy that fancy meal was still up for grabs.
After the bet was set, Reese got down to cleaning her desk with meticulous care. She was a bit of a neat freak and demanded perfection in everything she
strutted over. With her brown hair and fierce eyebrows, she had a very mean look.
Just as she settled in, Susan Foster strut
She dumped a hefty stack of documents onto Reese’s desk.
“Get these done before lunch. Miss Flynn needs them.”
Reese was here to work, and as long as it was her job, she’d do it right.
She didn’t a
argue, just grabbed the documents and got to it.
The girl next to Susan snickered and whispered, “I think she’s really clueless. It’s obvious Miss Flynn can’t stand her. We’re not gonna be nice to her either. And she bet on staying and dining at the priciest place? She probably can’t even afford it.”
Susan shook her head. “You probably didn’t notice her outfit. It’s a limited edition.
The girl was skeptical. “Could be a knockoff. There are tons
ns of them online. My friend bought one, and it looks just like the real deal. You can’t tell unless you look real close.”
“Really?” Susan
asked, already planning to snag one herself when she got her paycheck
Reese heard every word but just smiled to herself
They probably had never seen the real deal, which was why they thought the genuine article was fake.
By noon, Reese had wrapped up the documents and placed them on Susan’s desk.
“All done. You hand them in, or should 17”
Susan stared at the mountain of papers, stammering in disbelief.
“You… finished already?”
Yep.

She hadn’t expected Reese to be this good,
“Go have lunch,” Susan said, trying to mask her shock. She needed a moment to process this and couldn’t let Reese see her flustered. It’d be too embarrassing.
Reese headed to the cafeteria. While she was waiting in line, someone cut in front of her, showing her aside.
She didn’t want to stir up trouble, but she also wasn’t a pushover.
She walked up and tapped the guy on the shoulder.
“Hey, no cutting in line. Didn’t your moral teacher teach you that?”
Isaac Hayes was well–connected, known by the higher–ups. No one dared to mess with him. Usually, people just let him cut in the cafeteria line.
But Reese had the guts to call him out.

Seeing Isaac about to blow his top, the other colleagues quickly backed away.
Isaac was intimidating, with a fierce and menacing look. Even though Reese wasn’t much shorter, she didn’t have the advantage in size.
Isaac glared at Reese. “You’re new here, right? If you don’t know the rules, go ask someone else.”
