Chapter 237: Unravelling The Clues
“Silva, I’m your girlfriend!” Dahlia’s voice rang out, a note of desperation threading through her words as she watched Silva trail after Reese. He didn’t turn back, leaving her to wonder if he was deliberately ignoring her or simply pretending to be deaf. Dahlia s complexion turned a ghostly white, her face contorted with rage. Her makeup was ruined, and her pristine white dress was blotched with large coffee stains, leaving her looking utterly dishevelled.Nearby, Malcolm made a move to depart. Dahlia’s heart pounded in her chest–she realized Malcolm was her last hope. She hastened after him, reaching out to grasp his arm. But Malcolm deftly sidestepped, leaving Dahlia clutching at nothing. He had anticipated her move from the moment she took her first step.Confronting Malcolm, Dahlia lashed out, “Reese is openly flirting with another man! Why would you even bother? She doesn’t love you! She’s just using your” Malcolm stood firm, refusing to look back at her as if even a glance would sicken him. He finally spoke Coldly, “I love Reese, for who she is. And if there’s another incident like today, trust me, you’ll pay for your actions. His words hung in the air, his chilling gaze making Dahlia shudder.Dahlia knew the incident referred to her throwing coffee at Reese. She opened her mouth to retort but was silenced by the chilling shiver Malcolm’s parting glance sent down her spine. Clenching her fists so tightly that her nails dug into her palms, Dahlia didn’t care. She was consumed with the desire to crush Reese beneath her feet and make her taste the bitterness she’d experienced. She swore to herself that Reese would pay. Inside the coffeehouse, a few women watched Dahlia stood rigidly. They glanced at her, stifling giggles behind their hands whispering among themselves. Some even broke into audible laughter. Dahlia looked a mess, but she clenched her teeth and made hasty exit, her cheeks burning with humiliation. Outside the café, Reese walked with purpose, her face had an unreadable mask. Silva caught up to her, panting slightly. “Reese, are you okay?” he asked. Reese kept walking, not sparing Silva a glance, her expression occasionally betraying a flicker of impalence.Unfazed, Silva continued, “Reese, where are you headed? Let me give you a lift; my car’s right over there.” Reese finally stopped, turned to face Silva. His face lit up with hope, thinking Reese had changed her mind and was willing to talk. “Reese, wait for me, my car’s just over there. I’ll be right back; you can pick the destination,” he said, already planning to invite Reese for a meal once she was in his car.“Can you not be annoying?” Reese’s voice was laced with irritation
Silya taken aback, stuttered, “Reese, I just…” “Just what?” A sharp vole cut in from behind.
As Silva pivoted on his heel, the familiar voice sent a chill down his spine, signaling impending trouble. He noticed Reese stiffened at the sound as well.“Who taught you to brazenly harass someone’s wife?” Malcolm’s voice boomed as he sauntered over, draping an arm authoritatively around Reese’s shoulder.A pang of despair gripped Silva’s heart, his eyes losing their spark, replaced by a resigned smile. Reese didn I shrug off Malcolm’s arm, a clear indication of his significant role in her life.Reese was torn. She knew she should push Malcolm away, yet she found herself unable to do so You two make an odd pair. One lasts after another man’s wife, the other pines for someone else’s husband–truly a match made in heaven,” Malcolm sneered, his laughter echoing with scom. It’s not like that, I just….. Dahlia and I are…..” Silva stuttered, his words trailing off into an awkward silence.“Just what? You really are a nuisance. Don’t you know your place?” Reese finally retorted, her voice cold and unwelcoming.“Stay out of Reese’s affairs. You have no right to meddle. And stop lingering like an unwelcome guest, Malcolm warned, his voice was sharp, before whisking Reese away.Silva watched their retreating figures, a forced smile etched onto his face.On the drive home, Reese leaned her head against the car window, her gaze lost in the rapidly passing scenery. Malcolm was behind the wheel, the silence between them was heavy and unbroken. Upon reaching home, Reese didn’t wait for Malcolm to open her door; she exited the car and headed straight upstairs She was about to shut her bedroom door when Malcolm barged in, pushed her against the wall with a forceful shove. His imposing figure enveloped her in a tight embrace Reese looked up, with an aloof tone she demanded, “Let go!“Ignoring her plea, Malcolm implored, “Reese, I swear I had no idea about what happened before. I’ll explain everything, but you have to believe I was oblivious! Reese’s mind was a whirlwind of thoughts, yet she found herself unable to articulate them–perhaps it was Malcolm’s earnest plea. Seeing her silence, Malcolm seized the moment, pressing his lips against hers in a passionate kiss. Reese’s eyes widened in surprise. Despite her quick reflexes, the sudden kiss threw her off balance Sensing her hesitation, Malcolm deepened the kiss, his hands roaming restlessly.Reese found herself succumbing to the kiss, thinking, just let it be for now, as if I know nothing, She responded with equal fervor Feeling her reciprocation, Malcolm was stirred, and the kiss intensified. Without hesitation, he scooped Reese up in his arms.On the large bed, the man’s heavy panting filled the room while the woman’s checks flushed a deep crimson. Their clothes lay scattered, and the room radiatedwith the warmth of their intimacy. The next morning, sunlight streamed onto the balcony as Reese sleepily opened her eyes to find Malcolm’s peaceful sleeping face beside her. Even in slumber, he was striking, his usual brisk demeanor replaced by a gentle tranquility.Reese carefully slid out of the bed, her legs shaky. She steadied herself and headed towards the bathroom, Catching her reflection in the mirror, the felt the sudden urge to clear her head and splashed cold water on her face Suddenly, a vague memory flashed across her mind–last night, she had caught a glimpse of a small, black tattoo on Malcolm’s lower back. Now, as she thought about the tattoo, it seemed eerily familiar. She felt as if she had seen it before. And then it dawned on her she had seen it before, on members of that organization! But why would Malcolm bear the unique too of that organization? What did it signify? No, it couldn’t be, Reese thought, shaking her head at the absurd idea How could possibly be involved with that organization? And yet, considering Malcolm’s past actions, if he were connected, it would make sense. With these thoughts swirling in her mind, Reese quietly slipped out, intending to call Calvin.
