Chapter 257: A Long Way to Deliver a Message
The Emerald Isle, a place of mystery and intrigue, was known to recognize no one except its elusive owner. The attendees, despite their frequent visits, had never encountered this enigmatic figure. Ye, whispers of an extraordinary and secretive identity circulated among them.
Sawyer found himself pondering the sheer power this proprietor mu wield, given the audacity of the staff. Regardless of the day’s outcome, he found the blatant disrespect hard to swallow. Amidst the bustling crowd and his imminent ascension to the chairman’s seat, he couldn’t afford to be seen as a man who could be easily trampled on by a mere waiter.
The sheer audacity of the situation was insufferable to Sawyer.
In a swift surge of anger, Sawyer’s foot struck out, connecting with the waiter’s knee, causing the man to jolt upright. “Who do you think you are, raising your voice at me? Who’s the manager here? Bring them out! Don’t you understand that from today onward, I’ll be a regular here!” he demanded, his voice echoing through–the–room
The audacity of the waiter, daring to challenge him in his own presence, was unthinkable.
Once he secured the presidency, the Emerald Isle would become his domain,
a
place he could freely enter and exit as he pleased.
Sawyer’s altercation with the waiter had already stirred up quite a commotion; the patrons turned their heads, drawn by the escalating tension.
“What’s happening over there? Isn’t that Sawyer, the CEO of Sawyer Enterprises, arguing
with a
waiter?”
“I overheard that he demanded the house specialty, ‘Seafood Extravaganza,‘ and the waiter told him he wasn’t fit to order it. That’s
when the fight broke out.”
“That waiter’s attitude is quite problematic, isn’t it?”
“What problem? This is the Emerald Isle, not some uptown five–star restaurant where only the wealthy and prestigious dine. The privilege of gathering here is a status symbol in itself, possible only because we’re selecting a new Chamber of Commerce president.”
“You’re right. Even if you don’t end up as the president, just being here is an eye–opener.”
The Emerald Isle was not just prime real estate, but a place where every single detail, from the plants to the woodwork, even the roof tiles, came with a hefty price tag.
Merely stepping foot here was an accomplishment, which is why no one dared to cross paths with Sawyer for fear of offending the mysterious owner.
When Reese walked in, he caught the tail end of the heated argument. The waiter’s blatant disregard for Sawyer made Reese guess this had to be Calvin’s doing, likely to knock Sawyer down a peg.
He had to admit, it was a nice touch and quite satisfying to watch.
Sawyer was still griping, “Get your manager out here, I want to lodge a complaint!”
“Sorry, but the manager agrees with me. Here, you can’t just play the big shot!”
That remark nearly sent Sawyer over the edge, his face alternating between red and pale, his cheeks trembling with barely suppressed rage.
Shirley quickly stepped in to comfort Sawyer, “Dad, let it go. Why lower ourselves over a waiter? Once you’re the president, can’t you

handle a trivial waiter?”
Of course, Shirley whispered the second half, considering things were not yet set in stone and it was too early to make bold claims.
At these words, Sawyer’s anger cooled a trace, and with one final glare at the waiter, he held back further outburst.
“Look at you, with that attitude, you’re destined to be nothing more than a waiter for life! How dare you look down on use, you jerk!” someone sneered.
The retort from the waiter caught Sawyer off–guard, “Sorry, that’s just what the boss told me to say.”
Sawyer stammered in confusion, “Your… your boss told you to say that?”
As far as Sawyer could remember, he didn’t think he had any acquaintance with the owner of Emerald Isle.
Before Sawyer could delve any further into the thought, a shrill scream cut through the air.
“No way! How could she possibly be here?”
Sawyer turned to his daughter with a puzzled look, following Shirley’s gaze to see Reese in an emerald green dress that highlighted her porcelain skin and her ethereal beauty. It gave her an innocent yet not entirely pure allure, complemented with an aura of cool elegance.
Men found such a woman unforgettable an intriguing blend of purity and cool detachment that was irresistibly inviting.
Shirley was seething with anger, “How dare she show up at an event like this? She doesn’t belong here!”
She and Sawyer had gone through so many hoops to be here – bending over backward, leveraging connections, and spending a fortune to gain entry to this exclusive club.
What right then did Reese have?
Sawyer didn’t dwell on it, speculating, “Maybe she’s here with Malcolm.”
“Where is Malcolm, then? I haven’t seen him anywhere,” Shirley said, her eyes scanning the room for him like beacons.
Sawyer leaned back, legs crossed, exuding an air of arrogance, “Doesn’t matter when he shows up. He’s not vying for the presidency. A month’s profit for his company is something we can only dream of Taking on the presidency would just weigh him down.”
The very status they were clawing after was something Malcolm would usually dismiss without a second thought.
Shirley’s rage towards Reese bubbled at the sight of her. Her father was on the brink of becoming president, and with Reese’s reputation seemingly in ruins, Shirley saw no reason to hold back any longer.
With a haughty flip of her dress and towering on her stilettos, Shirley walked towards Reese with confidence.
Reese caught sight of Shirley approaching and a cold smirk curled her lips. It seemed like luck was delivering an easy victory to her door.
When Shirley reached Reese, she stood with her nose in the air, speaking loudly as if to ensure everyone within earshot could hear.
“Isn’t this Reese, the one who’s been all over the trending topics lately? Long time no see.”
Reese scoffed with undisguised disdain, not bothering to mask her contempt as she fired back without a hint of cordiality.
