Chapter 259: Her Unwavering Protector
Shirley, however, remained steadfast in her defiance. “Go ahead, attempt to expel us. But bear in mind, the Sawyer Family may soon be the next leaders of the Chamber of Commerce.
You would do well to reconsider; you wouldn’t want to provoke those you can ill afford to offend you can handle.”
the backlash may be more than
Reese, hearing what seemed to her a laughable threat, didn’t immediately retort but instead indulged Shirley’s bravado.
“Indeed, the Sawyer family vying for the leadership of the Chamber of Commerce secure it during the vote.”

a role not to be taken lightly. Let’s see if you can
She was in no rush; a direct confrontation wasn’t always the most effective strategy. The sting of a delayed realization could be far more potent, striking the adversary where it hurt most.
Shirley was certain they would secure the presidency. Her father had promised Nicholas a plethora of benefits. If he failed to deliver, they had means to ensure he wouldn’t escape unscathed. Besides, her father had already promised Nicholas substantial rewards once the Sawyer Family assumed control. In a room filled with business moguls, no one wanted to be on the wrong side of wealth.
Shirley’s confidence seemed to return, “Just you wait and see our triumph, and then, you may take your leave.”
Reese scoffed, “We shall see.”
When it came to the vote, the majority sided with the Sawyer Family, as Nicholas had arranged, having received his share of incentives from Sawyer. Sawyer watched his stock rise, a smug grin spreading across his face. He was certain he held the winning
hand.
Shirley, although slightly disheveled, couldn’t suppress her victorious smile at the prospect of the Sawyer family surpassing Reese in
the near future.
However, just as Sawyer was about to be announced as the new president of the Chamber of Commerce, a mysterious recording echoed through the loudspeakers.
“Nicholas, you promised me this. You can’t back out now. I have to win this presidency, and once I’m in charge, you’ll reap the
benefits.”
“Don’t worry, Mr. Sawyer, I’ve taken care of everything. But shouldn’t we increase the price? After all, I’ve got many hands to grease,
and there won’t be much left for me.”
“Nicholas, once I’m president, I’ll ensure you’re well compensated. Just be patient.”
“That won’t do. I can guarantee you the presidency here, but what if you renege on your promise? I’d be left high and dry. We businessmen prioritize profits over favors, so let’s not discuss sentimentality.”
“Alright, I’ll give you an additional fifty percent. Is that satisfactory?
“Then it’s a pleasure doing business with you.”
The room erupted into chaos as the recording ended. People were flabbergasted.
“What’s happening here? Was this a setup from the beginning?”
“Are those Sawyer and Nicholas’s voices? His daughter seemed so confident about the arrangement‘; it appears influence comes at a
cost.”

Chapter 259: Her Unwavering Protector
“We demand a re–vote for the president’s election, and Sawyer should be disqualified. How can someone like him lead the Chamber of Commerce if he’s buying his way into power?”
“Yes, we protest collectively. Exclude Sawyer from the nomination for president.”
The crowd became a tumultuous uproar against the vote, and Sawyers face turned a ghastly shade of red.
He quickly stood up, attempting to explain. “There’s something suspicious about that recording. Trust me, someone’s trying to
frame me.”
Suddenly, Shirley stood up, accusing Reese. “It has to be Reese. She’s behind this!”
Reese, unfazed by Shirley’s allegations, remained calm and composed, her gaze icy and derisive.
Under Reese’s icy stare, Shirley felt like a fool in her presence, Sawyer found himself cornered, forced to pin the blame on Reese. He couldn’t let everyone in the room know he’d once bribed Nicholas; it would destroy his chances of ever being considered for the presidency of the Chamber of Commerce.
“Indeed, Reese was taunting my daughter, boasting that she was going to ensure we were ousted. And look at the outcome, Shirley chimed in, seizing the opportunity to lay the blame squarely on Reese’s shoulders.
“I mean, seriously! Mrs. Flynn from the esteemed Flynn family resorting to such despicable tactics? It’s downright disgusting!” someone added to the clamor.
Do you think Reese is the kind of lowlife you can judge?” another voice protested.
Suddenly, a commanding voice sliced through the noise, drawing everyone’s attention to the entrance. A man stood there in a sharp black suit, his height and poise accentuating the solemnity and sharpness of his refined features.
Shirley’s heart plummeted when she saw Malcolm. She wished she could simply disappear. Why did Malcolm have to see her in such
a disheveled state?
All this chaos, instigated by Reese. If only Reese hadn’t laid hands on her, would her makeup have been ruined like this?
The jealousy and anger brewing inside her erupted upon seeing Malcolm.
Malcolm strode over to Reese, took her hand assertively, their fingers interlocking–his actions speaking louder than words. He cast a cold glance at Sawyer and Shirley, his handsome brow furrowed with disapproval.
“This recording? I released it. Is Uncle Sawyer suggesting that I would stoop so low as to spread rumors and frame him with this?”
Malcolm declared.
Reese looked up at him, her face a mix of shock and bewilderment.
She could’ve handled the situation herself; after all, she had the recording prepared by Calvin much earlier. But Malcolm openly defending her made her heart flutter. His recent behavior seemed to be sending her a message.
No matter how outrageous the deed, even if it seemed implausible to others, he would unhesitatingly stand in front of her and protect her.
Like now, this recording shouldn’t have been released yet. Everyone must think she was there to stir up trouble, but Malcolm supported her without even understanding the full extent of the issue.
The sense of being favored in such a manner was overwhelming, and she couldn’t immediately process it. Perhaps no one had ever stood by her as Malcolm just did. Shirley felt a surge of irritation as she saw Malcolm rush to Reese’s defense, unquestioningly taking her side before the whole story was even clear.

“Malcolm, bro, don’t believe her. She’s so fake.”
