Chapter 287 Triple the Penalty–1
Kenneth was seething, his voice trembling with rage as he spat out. This is sheer madness! Reese’s laughter echoed in response, a sound filled with derision. “If you already know it’s impossible, save your breath, Kenneth. At your age, talking too much could lead
to a stroke.”
Kenneth’s features twisted in fury. He yearned to retort, to lash out Reese once more, but the icy glint in her eyes held him at bay. He couldn’t risk another blunder like the one with the Brooks family, where Malcolm had taught him a harsh lesson for his careless words. The thought of crossing Reese again filled him with read. Who knew what she might say to Malcolm this time?
Feeling defeated, Kenneth watched as Reese turned on her heel and rode out of the room, her footsteps echoing assertively against the floor. The shareholders chuckled as they watched her leave, her audacious swagger leaving a lasting impression.
“Colin,” one of them commented, “your daughter is quite the character, brimming with confidence. To boldly claim she can secure such a massive project…”
“If she actually pulls it off,” another added, “having someone like her on our team could really save us a lot of headaches in the
future.”
с
“It looks like Colin’s succession is secure.”
Kenneth bit his tongue, resisting the urge to reprimand the old fools. He wished he could tell them Reese wasn’t his daughter and that he had no intention of leaving the company in her hands. With Reese’s current attitude, she’d devour him before caring for the company. Hand it over to her? She’d drive him out in no time.
Meanwhile, at the Flynn Group headquarters, Malcolm Flynn stood by the floor–to–ceiling windows, handsomely suited and gazing at the towering skyline. Justin glanced at the clock, “Mr. Flynn, Reese has been at Brooks Corp for two hours now. No word yet. I hope the board isn’t giving her a hard time.”
Malcolm remained calm, sipping his coffee, “Don’t worry, she can hold her own.” Even if he hadn’t intervened with the Brooks family yesterday, Reese was more than capable of taking care of herself. Kenneth didn’t stand a chance against her. Justin pondered Reese’s usual temperament and realized not many could rein her in easily. No wonder Mr. Flynn seemed so unfazed.
“So, about Reese… would it work if she became a shareholder, with her background and all?”
Malcolm chuckled dismissively. “Justin, did, last night’s work scramble your brains? Have you forgotten who swept in and snagged my deal from under me? She could handle not just the Brooks Corporation, but even two more just like it without breaking a sweat.”
Suddenly, it clicked for Justin. “I completely spaced out on that deal: Reese completely outmaneuvered us, and we couldn’t find any leads for ages.” It was a bit embarrassing when he thought about it.
Malcolm’s demeanor shifted instantly, eyes cooling from warmth to a piercing glare. Justin clamped his mouth shut. Then he saw Mr. Flynn pull out his phone, and without looking, Justin knew it was a call to Reese. Her voice on the phone was surprisingly
soothing, a stark contrast to the Mr. Flynn he had just witnessed. Justin almost had to laugh at the hypocrisy.
“Are you done with the meeting?”
“Yeah,” she answered simply.
“Did the shareholders give you a hard time?”
“Hardly. They and Kenneth nearly devoured me.”
Reese’s tone was breezy, as if the meeting was just a casual outing causing her no real trouble. Malcolm laughed at her exaggerated expression. “With your firepower, I doubt anyone could really get the best of you.”

“You always get me,” Reese said, already walkin your way out? Do you want a lift?”
with document in hand. Malcolm could hear the elevator beeps. “Are you on
“No need. I grabbed a quick lunch and now I’ve picked an assistant join me for a contract negotiation.” She had spent the last thirty minutes crafting a proposal and needed to lock down the contract.
Malcolm frowned. “Did they throw any curveballs at you?”
“Not really. I volunteered, and I’m actually bullish about this project. It’s key for establishing my foothold in the company, to better position myself against Kenneth in the future.” The mere thought of Kenneth’s expression today was enough to make her smirk joyfully. The glee of unspeakable frustration, the agony of swallowing a shattered tooth.
Malcolm could tell Reese had her reasons for entering the Brooks Corporation, though he wasn’t fully privy to her plans. Though it didn’t matter much to him, whatever his darling wife wanted to do, he was game to tag along and indulge her in every way.

Make sure you treat yourself to a nice meal out, don’t go depriving yourself. I’d hate to see you lose weight,” he admonished gently.
Justin stood a bit off to the side, suddenly regretting why he hadn’t left earlier, questioning his decision to stay around. Reese casually agreed, “Yeah, busy day. I’ll give you a call after 1 wrap things up.”
“Just a quick kiss, Malcolm demanded, utterly unfazed by Justin’s presence. Justin, on the other hand, was nearly driven nuts by their exchange.
Mr. Flynn, I’ll step out for a bit,” he announced. Malcolm, absorbed with his phone call, did not respond. Reese’s assistant was there too, feeling a bit awkward about the situation.
“Let’s do it another time.”
But Malcolm was persistent, “C’mon, just a quick one now, then you can grab a bite. I’ve got work to do, gotta make that money to take care of you.”
Even though Reese knew she didn’t need Malcolm to support her–she was perfectly capable of supporting herself–the sweet sentiment soaked through her heart. It was oddly comforting, and it inexplicably boosted her spirits.
She replied on the phone with the intimacy
of a
kiss tossed through the air.
Mwah.
Malcolm’s face lit up with a deeper smile at her words. Reese’s assistant couldn’t help but feel envious, “Miss Reese, looks like you and your husband are really tight.”
“It’s okay,” Reese replied without much conviction. After all, she still harbored some reservations and uncertainty about the depth of Malcolm’s feelings. She wondered how long this passionate novelty would last. Being a conservative person, Reese was cautious about opening up until she was certain of the other person’s sincerity. She feared that in the end, she might end up with nothing and lose herself in the process.

Without answering her assistant, Reese instructed, “Bring the contracts and get familiar with them. Did you call the potential business partner?”
“They finally agreed to meet with us after much cajoling. I was worried you might have had a wasted trip. Even Colin had put his best foot forward and failed to secure the project.” Miss Reese had heard some rumors about herself, stories whispered about her nothing more than an average employee at origins from Backwoods. Despite being married into the wealthy Flynn family, she was Flynn Group.
Yet, she had skyrocketed to becoming a major shareholder of Brooks Corporation, second only to Colin. It was almost unbelievable. But it had happened. Her luck had been extraordinary.
Upon orchestrating a rendezvous, the chosen location was the quaint Hiro Coffee Shop. Reese’s arrival was met with the sight of the other party already comfortably seated. Her appearance was so striking that his eyes nearly bulged from their sockets.
“Mr…,” she began.
“Mr. Lucio, it’s a pleasure
meet you. I am Reese, the recent addition to the shareholder roster at Brooks Corporation. I’m here to discuss the proposal we touched upon during our previous conversation.”
Lucio was taken aback by this unexpected encounter with Reese, let alone the revelation that she was the latest shareholder of Brooks Corporation. He mentally cataloged the numerous companies under her name, each one surpassing Brooks in stature. Why would she choose to invest in Brooks?

Her position as a major shareholder seemed incongruous. Wasn’t this beneath her capabilities?
However, Lucio noted the way Reese interrupted him, indicating her preference to keep her status discreet.
Your team at Brooks Corporation has been quite tenacious, reaching out to me on multiple occasions. As for the resistance you’ve encountered, you’re well aware. There’s no need for me to elaborate.
“That’s precisely why we’ve brought a new proposal today, along with a revised contract.”
With a slight nod from Reese, her assistant hastily presented the documents.
“Mr. Lucio, this is the new proposal, personally crafted by Ms. Reese for your perusal.”
Upon examining the new proposal, Lucio was taken aback by its audacious terms. He was well aware of Reese’s capabilities, but this was bordering on despotism.
Despite his wariness of Reese, he couldn’t risk his company embarking on a venture destined for failure.
“Ms. Reese, don’t you find this a tad excessive? While the proposal has been revamped, you’ve escalated the price by twenty percent. That’s a significant increase from the previous figure. You’re aware that the prior project didn’t resonate with us, leading to our decision against partnering with your firm.”
Reese’s assistant felt a shiver of apprehension. She had anticipated this reaction.
The previous project proposal may not have been stellar, but the pricing was reasonable, minimizing potential losses. Now, however, the proposal had transformed, and the crux of the issue was the drastic price surge. No one here was a fool; why would they consent to such domineering terms based solely on a single proposal?
Reese found herself in a precarious situation, struggling to justify this debacle to her shareholders. The embarrassment was tangible.
Her assistant, too, was ensnared in the awkwardness of the situation.
Yet, Reese’s flawless countenance betrayed no hint of worry. Instead, her eyes shimmered with a bold confidence, a trait not commonly found, especially when one was devoid of any bargaining chips.
Suddenly, her assistant wasn’t so certain she had accurately gauged Reese.
At that moment, the server arrived with their coffee. Reese accepted hers with grace, taking a slow sip before addressing Lucio.
“I suggest you consult with your company’s shareholders, evaluate the merits of this proposal, and reassess its business potential. If it proves to be a loss, I’m prepared to pay three times the penalty.”
