Chapter 289 In the Face of Disbelief, There is No Alternative
Upon hearing of Reese’s return, Kenneth and Dahlia Brooks both ros from their seats in unison. Dahlla, her impatience palpable, inimediately questioned, “Has she managed to secure the deal?*
“I’m not certain,” Kenneth.responded, his voice laced with uncertainty. “Reese has called for a shareholders: meeting.”
The sudden announcement left both Kenneth and Dahlia at a loss, usable to discern Reese’s intentions. Kenneth’s face hardened, a glimmer of disbelief tingeing his expression.
“Are you implying that Reese has actually secured the project?” He asked, his voice laced with incredulity.
“That seems highly unlikely,” Dahlia scoffed, her skepticism evident. If Reese had indeed accomplished such a feat, Dahlia mused, there would be no need for her to remain a mere employee at Flynn Group.
Nevertheless, they had no choice but to wait for the outcome.
“Gather the shareholders for a meeting,” Kenneth instructed his assistant, his curiosity piqued. He was eager to see what sort of magic Reese could conjure.
By three in the afternoon, the conference room was abuzz with shareholders, their conversations filled with speculation.
“Did she really secure the project?”
“That would be quite a surprise.”
It was common knowledge that this project was a tough nut to crack The company had sent many representatives before, all of whom had returned empty–handed. The idea that Reese, with her seemingly frivolous strategies, could achieve anything was almost laughable.
Dahlia stood to the side, her gaze fixed on Reese, curious to see just how capable she truly was.
When Reese entered the room, her assistant trailing behind her with a stack of documents, the chatter ceased, and a hush fell over
the room.
She could feel the scorn and impatience radiating from the shareholders. She was well aware of their distrust towards her.
Upon seeing Reese’s air of superiority, as if she considered herself above everyone else, Dahlia felt a pang of inadequacy. The discomfort in her heart intensified. Reese was no longer the daughter of the prestigious Brooks family, and without that status, she should have been more humble. Even with the Flynn family name, it couldn’t last forever.
Where did her confidence stem from?
Dahlia couldn’t resist a jab: “Sister, who would’ve thought you’d go from a mere employee at Flynn Group to a major shareholder of the Brooks Group? Truly, a reason for celebration.”
Reese merely glanced at Dahlia, her gaze dismissive, before turning to address the shareholders.
“Let’s get this meeting started. I bet everyone is itching to know the results,” she announced, her voice echoing in the room.
She took a seat in the chair typically reserved for Kenneth, who sat beside her, his face contorted with frustration. With so many eyes upon them, it was not the place to protest.
Dahlia felt a sting of embarrassment at Reese’s blatant disregard for her. “What’s the big idea?, You’re not the CEO of Brooks Enterprises. How dare you take this seat?”

Reese’s gaze was piercing, and her ley demeanor sent a chill through the room. As her eyes swept over Dahlia, the words poised on Dahlia’s lips retreated back down her throat, her eyes filled with warness.
Catching the fear in Dahlia’s gaze, Reese sneered dismissively. “If you don’t want to embarrass yourself in front of everyone here, I’d keep quiet if I were you.”
Dahlia retorted, her chin held high with indignation, “You”
“Let’s begin, Reese interjected, dismissing her and turning to addres the shareholders directly. “The contract–I’ve secured it.”
A chorus of disbelief echoed in the room.
“It’s not possible… secured… how?”
“Is it a fake contract? A trick?”
“I wish I knew,” someone murmured in astonishment.
Kenneth’s face was a mask of shock. He hastily snatched the contract from Reese’s grasp, flipping through it feverishly. His mind was reeling.
But it was legitimate.
The shareholders crowded around, their expressions mirroring his shock. Reese had actually landed the project. How on earth did she pull it off?
“Isn’t that girl from Backwoods?”
“Maybe she’s some hidden tycoon, or is it Malcolm’s connections?”
“I doubt it. I heard she whipped up that proposal in half an hour.”
“That quickly!”
“No regular Joe could do that.”
“This is no ordinary feat.”
Even Dahlia had to see for herself. Her first thought: “It’s got to be fake. This contract simply can’t be real.”
But how could Reese genuinely have closed the deal?
Reese scoffed, “Your lack of ability is not my problem.”
“How could you…” Dahlia was on the verge of a breakdown, unable to believe that Reese truly had the capability to land the project.
Kenneth, too, had his doubts about Reese’s success, and he spoke with grave sincerity.
“Reese, we all get you want our respect, but faking contracts is no small matter,” someone admonished.
The assistant who had been shadowing Reese stood up at this moment.
“Colin, I can vouch for Miss Reese. I saw her signing the contract with the other party. Their CEO even had a video call with Reese and after seeing her proposal and the contract, they agreed to sign immediately.”

Kenneth had to trust the assistant’s words. After all, the assistant was one of their own and wouldn’t date cover up for Reese.
It was unbelievable. Reese had actually won the project.
Knowing Kenneth might play dirty, Reese had preemptively roped in member of the Brooks Group to back her up, avoiding the need to contact the other company for confirmation later.
*Now that everything’s been confirmed, I hope we can all work together harmoniously going forward and judge each other fairly.”
The shareholders felt defeated, not expecting someone as capable as Reese to emerge.
Dahlia Brooks stood seething, her face flushed with anger, but she was powerless against Reese.
Reese wasn’t one to back down after being slighted, especially annoyed by Dahlia’s constant nagging during her speech.
“But before we move on, I’ve got a matter to address. It’s about you, Dahlia Brooks. You handle the company’s finances, right? I had my assistant review your recent financial reports and found some discrepancies.”
Dahlia’s eyes widened in shock. “What right do you have to dig into the company’s financial reports without permission? Who gave you the authority?”
“I’m a major shareholder. I have every right to be informed about the company’s affairs. And a word of advice–treat me with respect, and you might just have an easier time.”
Reese looked extremely serious, her features sharp and unapproachable.
Kenneth frowned, hearing all this.
“What’s going on here?”
Reese glanced at Dahlia before speaking to Kenneth.
“You might not be aware, Colin, but Dahlia has been siphoning company funds for her lavish lifestyle–designer bags, luxury clothes,
you name it.”
Dahlia protested immediately, “Reese, what nonsense are you spouting? When have I ever bought designer bags?”
Reese gave her a sidelong look, “Do you need me to pull up those bills for a nice, close look?”
After all, checking an account was but a few minutes work, a simple flick of the fingers.
