Regaining her composure, Alyssa’s fingers closed around Reese’s hadds in an excited grip, her face aglow with uncontained joy.
*Reese, am I hearing you correctly?” she asked, her voice trembling with anticipation. “You were conversing with King–the very same King who has led the team to numerous victories over the years?
Reese offered a nod of confirmation. Among all the players, he is the only one worthy of the title King, isn’t he?
In an instant, the murky cloud of Alyssa’s previous emotions was swept away by the exhilarating news.
Reese, anticipating Alyssa’s next request, playfully tapped her on the forehead. “Not a shred of worry left in you, is there?”
Alyssa responded with a sheepish grin. “Well, when you have a champion in your corner…”
“And a champion is the solution to all your problems? Reese was always one for directness.
Alyssa’s excitement seemed to freeze over, her shoulders drooping in sudden realization.
‘I’ll add him. I’m content even with just one professional gamer. And Reese, I had no idea you were acquainted with such legends.”
“Some from the past, not all close. King is one I actually got along with; he was like an eager fan, always trailing behind me. Even though I stopped playing professionally, he and a few others never lost touch.”
“Alright, Reese, I’ve added him. I’ll take it from here. You should go check on Malcolm. The way he was looking earlier, I thought he might devour me.”
A sense of relief washed over Alyssa, knowing a professional was now in her corner and that Reese had provided a solution.
Having fulfilled her role, Reese needed to shift her focus to other matters.
“You need to speak to him directly, but remember your ultimate goal, okay? Don’t lose sight of that,” she advised.
Alyssa’s behavior was puzzling; one moment she was brimming with energy, engaging with others, and the next, she’d forget the
task at hand.
“Don’t worry, I’m on it,” Alyssa assured, barely containing her eagerness to start a game with the professional.
Reese exited the study and was immediately greeted by a call from Calvin, which she answered without hesitation.
“What’s the matter?”
‘ “How could you just give out my contact information, Reese? You know I’m swamped with work and not interested in dating right
now,” Calvin complained in a rush, leaving Reese momentarily disoriented.
There was a brief pause before Reese collected her thoughts.
“Apologies, I just remembered. So, did the girl add you?”
You tell me. Not only did she add me, but she wants to date me. You know me, Reese; you’re the only one for me unless so better comes along. Otherwise, dating is a no–go.”
Reese snorted, unimpressed. “Please, I know you better than that. She’s quite attractive and seems like your type. If I’m not mistaken, you’re probably exchanging messages with someone right now.”

Calvin, his phone on speaker, was in the midst of typing a response the girl. Reese’s words made him pause and glance around nervously.
“Stop looking around; I haven’t bugged you. I don’t even know where you are,” Reese said.
“How did you know I was replying to her…” Calvin blurted out before realizing he’d just implicated himself.
Clearly, he was no match for Reese’s cunning.
“Don’t bother me with this nonsense. Do you think I have nothing better to do? And did you look into what I asked?”
“I did. Everything’s in your inbox. Make sure to destroy it after reading it. Plus, there’s some talk… Looks like Grandma’s death wasn’t related to Jason, but they did date back in the day. So, Reese, ason isn’t your biological father’s son, is he?”
‘One more word and you’ll be nursing a bruised–head next time I see you,” Reese threatened through gritted teeth, frustrated with his nonsensical talk.
Calvin, scared witless, hastily backpedaled, “Okay, okay, I’m shutting up!”
“I’ll delve into some research. You need to keep a low profile these next few days, and keep an eye on Everhart’s movements. See if he’s had any contact with the organization.”
If she couldn’t find her biological father, she’d have to revisit the organization, a place teeming with unwanted memories.
Ideally, she’d never set foot in there again, but sometimes life forces your hand, and you have no choice but to face the music.
“Why are we digging into Everhart?” Calvin questioned, confused.
“Why not? He’s the one who mentioned hearing I wasn’t Kenneth’s daughter. I’ve ruled out Jason’s involvement, and honestly, I think my grandmother just dated him, nothing more. If there were any real ties, he’d have no reason to hide them.”
Grandma was gone, and with her, any need for secrecy.
Calvin pieced it together. “So, Reese, you still want to find out who your real father is?”
Reese remained silent.
“Alright, I’ll look into it.” Having said his piece, Calvin hung up, knowing that despite Reese’s tough exterior, she was eager
answers.

Reese pocketed her phone, chuckling at the absurdity of the situation. At her age, just finding out about her real father, never having had much hope for Kenneth, but still feeling a pang in her heart upon confirmation.
‘It is what it is. She had to face the facts.
As Reese was about to return to her room, she bumped into Everly on her way upstairs, arms full of shopping bags and humming a tune, seemingly in high spirits.
Their encounter sparked instant tension, chilling the air.
Everly’s face soured – she’d learned to avoid Reese after prior altercations.
She tried to pass by with a glare, but Reese stopped her.
