Chapter 298 A Necessary Conversation-
Alyssa had executed her gracefil exit, leaving Everly with no desire remain and witness the unfolding display of affection. Having shared a home with Malcolm since their childhood, she was well–versed in his emotional nuances. The sight of him now left no doubt in her mind; he was consumed by jealousy.
A mere phone call from another man to Reese was enough to unsettle him, a clear testament to the depth of his hurt.
Choosing to follow Alyssa’s lead, Everly pivoted on her heel and departed, leaving only Reese and Malcolm in the hallway. The atmosphere between them was charged and peculiar. Reese, acutely aware of the awkwardness, turned to Malcolm.
“I suppose I should retire to my room as well,” she suggested.
Rather than detaining her, Malcolm accompanied her.
As Reese turned, she caught sight of Malcolm’s peculiar expression and attempted to steer the conversation elsewhere.
“Shouldn’t you be occupied with work? The study is vacant now, you should make use of it.”
Malcolm, arms folded across his chest and an eyebrow arched, fixed her with a gaze that was both penetrating and full of unspoken implications.
“Are you trying to dismiss me so you can call King?”
His tone caused Reese to stifle a laugh, particularly when he emphasized the name ‘King‘. His jealousy was glaringly apparent.
Typically, Reese found men like Malcolm, prone to bouts of jealousy, unappealing. At times, she even found it repugnant. However, her burgeoning affection for him seemed to be altering her perspective. His jealousy, rather than irking her, was now a source of
amusement.
With deliberate intent, she sauntered over, hooked her arm through his, and gazed up at him with a playful smile. “Are you jealous?*
“Obviously.”
“You know the drill. I’m merely assisting Alyssa with her skills so she doesn’t get overwhelmed by online trolls in a few days.”
Was Malcolm inherently jealous? Every minor incident seemed to trigger him, yet Reese found it more endearing than irritating. It was as though his jealousy was a testament to his genuine concern.
Since Reese had become involved with Malcolm, she felt as though she was no longer the person she once was, overturning beliefs she had previously held steadfast.
Upon hearing her explanation, Malcolm’s jealousy seemed to abate considerably. However, it was a rare occasion when his fiery little bride was so eager to placate him. He had no intention of letting this opportunity pass him by.
“So, how do you plan to make amends? I can’t simply overlook this.”
Reese was aware of his ulterior motive.
She was not opposed to making amends, but there was a matter she needed to discuss with him first.
“Take a seat, she instructed.
Ever compliant, Malcolm drew her onto his lap and encircled her with his arms.

“Let’s hear it, babe. 111 do my btmost to accommodate
Reese, her arms wrapped around his neck, couldn’t suppress a smile. I feel like even if I asked for the stars in the sky, you’d find a way to bring them down for me?
He lightly tapped her nose with his finger. ‘Are you certain about that?”
She may not have been so confident before, but now things were different. Every small gesture Malcolm made demonstrated his deep investment in her. As for the longevity of this affection, she remained uncertain/
But for the moment, it was pleasant.
“Yeah, so… I may need to leave for a few days.”
It was a decision made on the spur of the moment. The mysteries of her past were gnawing at her; no one wishes to live with so many unanswered questions, and she was no exception.
She had been evading the subject, but now she felt prepared to confront it, pragmatic as always, even if it had initially been difficult to comprehend.

Malcolm’s frown was barely discernible when she mentioned her impending departure.
“What are you planning to do? Has something come up?”
“Yeah, a little something. I can’t really discuss it at the moment.”
Reese wasn’t intentionally keeping secrets from him, because she knew that would not be tolerated. Given Malcolm’s nature, if she were to disappear, he would turn Atlanta upside down in search of her. Not only would this distract her from her tasks, but it could also compromise her cover.
It was better to be forthright with him–she knew Malcolm was astute. He wouldn’t press her for answers she was clearly unwilling to provide.
Malcolm only asked, “Will there be any danger?”
“A bit, but I can handle it.” Reese couldn’t assure Malcolm there was no risk involved; he would never believe that.
Malcolm gently pinched her earlobe, his voice softening. “Do you really have to go?”
Reese nodded with conviction. “I must.
She had to uncover the truth about her past; the information she could glean from the Everharts was insufficient. Her only option was to venture out on her own. Yet, she was adamant about not involving Malcolm in this.
Understanding Reese’s temperament, Malcolm knew that attempting to forcibly deter her would only ignite her rebellious spirit.
“Alright, how many days will you need?” he asked.
“Three days should suffice.”
She had no intention of lingering; it wasn’t a place to stay for long
He had no choice but to consent. “Go then, but if anything dangerous arises or if the situation changes, call me immediately. No matter where you are, I’ll be there as quickly as possible.”
His words provided her with a sense of security that soothed her anxious heart.
“Okay, I understand.”
Reese nodded obediently, a rare display of docility that made Malcolm feel her growing trust in him.
“When are you leaving? Would you like me to drive you?”
In that moment, Malcolm resembled an overprotective mother, fretting over her child venturing out into the world, wishing she could simply attach him to her belt loop and accompany him.
Reese was acutely aware of his concerns. Aside from her grandmother, no one else had ever cared for her this deeply.
Moved, she felt a warm surge in her heart.
Perhaps driven by emotion, she wrapped her arms around Malcolm’s neck and planted a soft, shy kiss on his cheek.

Despite occasionally taking the initiative with him, mostly out of a
nse of competition her assertiveness didn’t allow her to back
down in any situation–this time, It was heartfelt. Malcolm, smirking pulled her closer by her waist.
Is that all? he teased.
He was yearning for more.
“What else do you want?” she asked.
His arms tightened around her waist. “Don’t play coy,”
Soon after, they shared a tender moment…
Everly happened upon the bedroom door by chance, only to hear some commotion inside. As an adult herself, she knew exactly what was transpiring.
She was tempted to barge in and observe how Reese could possibly be seducing Malcolm.
But ultimately, she restrained herself. What right did she have to interfere? After all, Reese was Malcolm’s wife, whereas she was nothing to him.
Stepping outside, she pondered the situation and decided to call Shirley. After all, they were acquainted, and Shirley harbored a deep–seated resentment for Reese.
The idea of using someone else to do her dirty work was not out of the question.
She retreated to her room, retrieved her cell phone, and dialed Shirley’s number.
Shirley was surprised to receive a call from Everly.
“Everly?”
“I need to discuss something with you.”
