Chapter 31 Someone’s Getting Nosy
Justin plopped down while Reese slid to the side, trying to stay out of sight. Good thing the cafe had those tablecloths that could hide hver. If Justin had spotted her earlier, he’d be all over Calvin, snooping around and eventually blowing her cover.
Justin cracked open his laptop and his fingers started dancing on the keyboard. Calvin didn’t even bother looking, just chilling with his coffee like he didn’t have a care in the world.
Justin shot a glance at Calvin, but the guy’s face was a blank slate. The laptop had some game logins, but nothing juicy programs were locked up tight, and Justin couldn’t mess with them ght there.
To keep things looking legit, Justin actually fired off an email.
Then he got up. “Thanks, man. If the boss had come
me down on me, I have been toast.”
“No sweat.” Calvin waved it off.
“You’re into software development, right? I saw some programs on your laptop that aren’t out there.”
Calvin didn’t see that coming. Denying it would just make things sketchier,
“Yeah, our company makes them. We dabble in game software too.”
“Can I get your business card? Maybe we can team up sometime.”

Justin handed over his card. Calvin had to give his in return, just to be polite. Luckily, it was from their new side gig, not the main company, so it wouldn’t raise too many eyebrows.
Justin glanced at the card. Never heard of this company before.
He flashed a polite smile. “Alright, I’m outta here. Take care and lets stay in touch.”
“Sure thing, take care.”
Once Justin was out of sight, Calvin finally let out a big sigh of relief and bent down to lift the tablecloth.
“Reese, coast is clear. You can come out now.”
Reese crawled out from under the table, her face all red and breathing hard.
“Man, that scared the crap outta me,”

She was different now. Malcolm was always sniffing around, suspicious of her true identity. He probably thought a small–town girl shouldn’t be so skilled in medicine and martial arts, which only made him more curious.
People like them, who had climbed so high, were always suspicious and sharp as a tack. Even the tiniest slip–up could expose you. So, she had to be extra careful with everything.
Calvin walked Reese to the cafe’s entrance and watched her head back to the company.
Justin returned to the office where Malcolm was sitting by the floor–to–ceiling window, staring outside with those deep, unreadable
“Did you find anything?”
“There’s someone fishy, but we don’t have any solid proof yet.”
“Who?” Malcolm turned around, his voice cold but magnetic.
Justin handed over Calvin’s business card. “Just a small startup in software development. I checked his computer anything sketchy, but there were a couple of locked programs, Didn wanna risk opening them.”

He handed the card back to Justin. “Dig into this company. See if it’s front for something bigger.”
“On it.” Justin sat down and started digging up info on the company. Everything looked normal, nothing out of the ordinary,
Malcolm asked, “Who’s listed DS the legal rep?”

“If it’s really his company, why’s he just a Vice President?”
Justin was stumped too. “Maybe he’s some rich kid trying to get some real–world experience. He does have that vibe, not your average Joe.
“Where’s Reese? Still not back?”
“Not yet, but when she does, she’ll probably butt heads with Miss Everly Flynn again.”
Justin had heard the office gossip about Reese giving Everly a piece of her mind that morning, leaving Everly fuming.

To him, it was just petty squabbling. If he took Everly’s side, Reese would throw a fit. He couldn’t afford to tick her off, because she was treating his legs.

It was actually good to have someone to balance out the fiery temps of those two girls, both spoiled by him and their grandfather.
When Reese got back, she was immediately called into Everly’s office She braced herself for the worst but wasn’t too worried about getting her pay docked. Even if Everly took six months worth, it wouldn’t be a big deal.
But Everly just gave her a cold look. “Since it’s your first offense, I’ll let it slide. Docking your pay is pointless. If you run out of money, you’d just lean on Malcolm to bail you out.”
Reese’s eye twitched. ‘Lean on Malcolm? No way. I could take care of myself just fine.”
If Malcolm ever got on her nerves, she co

But Reese didn’t buy that Everly would let it go so easily. Everly had been so fired up earlier, ready to explode. How could she have cooled off so fast? It didn’t add up.
Reese hated drama and cut to the chase. “What do you really want? Just spit it out.”
Everly gave a sly smile. “Okay, fine, I need to give you some kind of mishment to show the others. There’s a business meeting tonight. You handle it. Everything’s been discussed, but the other party is pretty picky. Whether you can close the deal tonight is up
to you.”
