Fall in Love with the Dominant Billionaire
Chapter 318 A Reluctant Burden–1
Reese’s words, though not overtly harsh, were laced with a biting insult. The color drained from Everly’s face as she stammered, “You guys…”
Alyssa, with a smug tilt of her chin, retorted, “What about us? If you can’t handle the heat, I suggest you navigate around us next time.”
The frustration of someone unable to bear the heat yet persistently stirring the pot was palpable–they were practically inviting disaster. Yet, it suddenly dawned on her that matching wits with Reese was a strangely gratifying experience.
Everly huffed a cold breath and turned on her heel to leave. She was no match for Alyssa, and Reese was in a league of her own–an indomitable force. Regardless of Everly’s attempts, Reese could effortlessly twist her words and throw them back with thrice the sting.
Despite this, she was aware that Reese’s attitude would soon bring about its own repercussions. As Everly stormed upstairs, Alyssa stifled her giggles behind her hand.
“Reese, you nearly gave Everly a heart attack. Did you see her face?”
“I saw it. But I’ve always been like this; I don’t instigate trouble unless it’s brought to me first. If they persist in provoking me, they can’t blame me for stripping them of their dignity.”
Alyssa lived by the principle of giving respect where it was due and avoiding unnecessary conflict. She admired Reese with genuine respect. “Reese, I truly admire you. You’re like a goddess to me.”
She was particularly taken with Reese’s straightforward nature. Reese never minced her words and always addressed issues directly.
Reese, however, didn’t see it as anything extraordinary. “You don’t have to emulate me, Alyssa. Just be yourself. Everyone is unique, and there’s no need to change merely for the sake of it.”
If not for the harsh realities she had faced, Reese wouldn’t have felt the need to adopt such a detached and seemingly heartless demeanor.
Everyone yearns for a touch of warmth and emotion, not to traverse life with a heartless facade, constantly putting on a show to prevent others from seeing through them.
Alyssa didn’t fully comprehend what Reese was going through, but she could sense the weight of the burden on Reese’s shoulders. Despite being of similar age, Reese always seemed burdened, her eyes devoid of light.
When Reese first arrived, her icy demeanor and strong defenses were evident. She was always on high alert, but she seemed to be gradually warming up to them, slowly letting her guard down.
Suddenly, Alyssa felt an overwhelming urge to embrace Reese. At their age, one would typically be showered with familial affection, yet Reese’s family seemed neglectful, and Alyssa had even heard that Reese’s closest grandmother had passed away.
Now, Reese was alone in the world, and it broke Alyssa’s heart,
“Reese, can I hug you?” Alyssa asked unexpectedly.
Reese looked puzzled. “Why do you want to hug me?
But Alyssa didn’t wait for a response; she simply wrapped her arms around Reese. Reese’s hands were damp, and she didn’t want to push Alyssa away. Lately, she found the young girl’s company rather comforting.

Alyssa held Reese tightly, her voice softening from its usual boisterousness, “Reese, from now on, you’re part of our family. If anyone dares to mess with you, they won’t get away with it.”
Reese chuckled softly, “With my reputation, I doubt anyone would dare.”
Alyssa giggled, “Exactly, you’re the only one who’s ever stood up to Grandpa. No one else dares.”
“Quit your joking, I’ve got things to do. Go entertain yourself,” Reese said, playfully pushing Alyssa away.
As Alyssa realized Reese wouldn’t be done anytime soon, she let go, Alright, Reese, I’ll leave you to it.”
She left the kitchen and found a staff member. “Could you please go help Mrs. Flynn in the kitchen? She’s preparing something special for the Master.”
Jenny, the staff member, wore a look of shock. The idea of something like this happening to Reese was beyond belief. Yet, it had happened all the same.

Alyssa, noticing Jenny’s spaced–out expression, couldn’t help but nudge her.
‘Hey! What are you standing around for? Go on, hustle!”
Snapping back to reality, Jenny said, ‘Oh! Right, I’m on it.”
She walked over and gently opened the kitchen door, approaching Reese with caution.
‘Mrs. Flynn, let me give you a hand.”
“No need, I’ve got this,” Reese briskly refused, though her hands trembled while holding the kitchen knife.
She had followed an online tutorial and thought cooking should be manageable. She watched people chopping at lightning speed and figured, with her own quick reflexes from gaming, how hard could chopping vegetables be?
Jenny, observing Reese’s shaky hands, interjected: “Mrs. Flynn, how about I help you with the chopping and you take over the ⚫ cooking part? Your husband will be home soon, and if dinner’s not ready… well, that wouldn’t be good.”
Reese pondered for a moment. Indeed, the prep work before cooking was quite tedious, and being her first time, it was natural to be a little clumsy.
She had promised Malcolm that she would cook dinner, boasting confidently about it. Now, the thought of serving something inedible or downright unpalatable was mortifying.
Checking her wristwatch, Reese conceded, “Yeah, I guess time is running short. Okay, you handle the chopping.”
She decided to study the recipe on her smartphone to avoid any further delays while cooking later. It could get messy.
“Alright, Mrs. Flynn, why don’t you take a break over here, and I’ll take over.”
As Reese stood by, scrolling through her phone, the sound of Jenny’s swift and skillful chopping made her realize how little she knew about cooking.
It seemed like she had quite some studying to do if she ever wanted to seriously take on frying and stirring in the kitchen.
Reese continued on her phone, waiting for Jenny to finish the prep work before stepping in to start cooking.
“Wait, Mrs. Flynn, not like that. You’ll set the pan on fire.”
“Mrs. Flynn, put the meat in first.”
“That’s not cooked through. Add a little water. Oh no, not that much…*
The kitchen was alive with hustle and bustle–clanging pots and pans. When Malcolm arrived, he was greeted by the commotion. Alyssa had already gone upstairs but was drawn back down by her curiosity.
Alyssa crossed her arms as she watched the busy figures in the kitchen, letting out a sigh.
“You know, Reese doesn’t have to go through all this trouble. If she’s not cut out for cooking, you guys could just eat out.”
Malcolm never expected this to be the scenario. He’d always thought his wife was sharp as a tack, quick on the uptake no matter what the task. But who would have guessed that cooking would be her Achilles‘ heel?

With a resigned shake of his head, he muttered, “Should I just go in and get her?”
“Bro, you barge in now, you think Reese won’t boot you out or, worse, get ticked off at you? She’s been at it for a while, and no matter how it’s coming along, she’s in it now. Tell her to stop cooking and suggest dining out? No one would take that well.”
Malcolm furrowed his brow, “I just don’t want her to overdo it.”
“It’s not about getting tired. It’s about Reese putting her heart into doing this for you. Besides, the staff is there to help. As long as the kitchen doesn’t go up in flames, we’re good.”
If it did, Grandpa would surely have a thing or two to say.
Malcolm cast a sidelong glare at Alyssa and playfully prodded her forehead. “What in the world are you thinking? You really have that little faith in Reese?”
