Chapter 333 The Turmoil Within the Noble House
Despite the tumult, Everly clung to the belief that she had acted appropriately. Her fury was a tempest, and she could not fathom how Malcolm could fall for Reese, a woman of such ordinary stature Their worlds were poles apart, their lifestyles starkly different. Why was it that Malcolm’s affections were solely for Reese?
These questions whirled in the tempest of Everly’s mind, her tears cascading down her cheeks. She clutched at her hair in forment as the world she had so carefully constructed crumbled around her. A sense of helplessness consumed her, filling her heart with a bitter chill. As she gazed upon Malcolm’s icy countenance, she was filled with regret. Why hadn’t she confessed her love for him sooner? Would their circumstances be different if she had?
“Malcolm, why?” she cried, her voice echoing with desperation. “Why can’t you see me? What allure does Reese hold for you? We know nothing of her. I’ve done my research, she’s nothing more than a backwoods girl who suddenly became the head of Emerald Isle. Have you considered this, Malcolm? Everly’s plea was desperate she wanted him to see the possibility of Reese’s deceit.
Malcolm’s brow furrowed, his displeasure clear. “Everly, mind your words! His voice was stern, he would not tolerate any slander against Reese.
Everly felt as though she was teetering on the edge of a precipice, her emotions threatening to consume her. She could bear no*
more.
“I don’t care!” she shouted, her voice piercing the tense silence. “I need an answer, Malcolm. Have you ever cared for me in all these years we’ve spent together? Even a shred of affection would be enough.”
Everly yearned for closure. Even if the truth was harsh, she needed to know. It was better than the torment of uncertainty.
Malcolm’s heart ached for her. When a woman becomes so consumed by a man, it was a testament to her profound attachment to love. And those who loved deeply often suffered the most.
“Everly,” he began, his voice heavy with sincerity. “I’ve never loved you. From the moment you joined the Flynn family, I’ve only seen you as a sister. Even if Reese hadn’t entered the picture, we would never have been together. His words were final, he had never harbored any romantic feelings for Everly.
Everly’s heart shattered at his words. She couldn’t accept this harsh reality.
“No… I can’t believe it. How can you not have any feelings for me? You used to grant my every request. Why the sudden change? Is
it because of Reese?”
“You’re mistaken, Everly,” Malcolm replied, his voice steady. “I fulfilled your requests because Grandpa asked me to. I’ve always seen you as a sister, just like Alyssa. Perhaps I was even more partial towards you because you weren’t a Flynn.”
Everly felt as though her heart had been ripped apart. She stared at Malcolm in disbelief. “How… How could you have been kind to
me for such a reason? Are you lying to me?”
“No, Everly,” Malcolm said patiently. “This is the truth. I’ve never desired you. You’ve always been a sister to me.”
Everly felt as though she was drowning in her despair. She clutched her head in agony, sinking to the floor. “I don’t believe it… I
don’t believe it…”
Malcolm had a meeting to attend, he couldn’t leave Everly in such a state. He called for Justin.
Upon entering the room, Justin found Everly weeping on the floor. “Malcolm, what…”
“Help Everly,” Malcolm ordered.
“Understood.” Justin approached Everly, feeling the tension in the room. What had Malcolm said to reduce her to such a state? He

gently suggested, “Everly, perifaps you should return to your office, Malcolm has a meeting soon.”
As he reached out to help her up, Everly pushed him away with surpising force. “I can walk by myself!
Justin stepped back, glancing at Malcolm who signaled him to keep his distance.
Everly rose to her feet, her balance wavering as a veil of tears obscured her vision. She sniffed, hastily wiping away the moisture from her cheeks before spinning on her heel. Without uttering a single word to Malcolm, she exited the office, leaving a palpable
silence in her wake.
Her mind was a tumultuous storm of confusion and hurt, the right words to say to Malcolm eluding her completely.
Once the door had closed behind Everly, Justin found his voice again “Malcolm, what just happened?” he asked, his tone laced with
concern.
“Nothing,” Malcolm replied, nonchalantly rolling up his sleeves. He picked up a stack of documents from his desk, resuming his usual indifferent and composed demeanor. “I merely ensured that Everly confronted the truth sooner rather than later.”
Justin, still needing clarification, suggested, “Perhaps we should pay more attention to the online comments. Malcolm, shouldn’t we assign someone to manage the situation with Everly? She is, after all a representative of the Flynn family. If we allow this issue to escalate further, it could potentially impact the Flynn Group.”
Malcolm shrugged dismissively. “A financial loss is inconsequential. The crux of the matter is that Everly needs to comprehend that she cannot act impulsively and offend certain individuals.” He referred to the incident where Everly and Shirley had slandered Reese, leaking information to the media, not for the first time.
Justin was aware of Reese’s reputation. If provoked, she was known to retaliate fiercely. If Malcolm hadn’t intervened on Everly’s behalf, Reese wouldn’t have let the matter slide. Despite the circumstances, Justin found himself admiring Malcolm’s protective stance. It was indeed commendable.
Meanwhile, Everly had retreated to her own office, her anger manifesting in a destructive rampage. Her assistant stood by, helpless to intervene, as Everly wreaked havoc on the room. “Uh… Everly, please stop. You’re destroying everything in this office,” the assistant pleaded.
A crowd of curious colleagues had gathered at the doorway, whispering amongst themselves as they watched the spectacle unfold.
“What’s happening? Why is Everly so furious?”
“Who should we ask?”
“I saw her leave Malcolm’s office just a moment ago.”
“But hasn’t Malcolm always been kind to Everly?”
“Are you unaware? Everly isn’t a biological member of the Flynn family. There’s no blood relation between her and Malcolm. Just think about it…”
One female colleague nodded in sudden understanding. “Exactly. Families of the rich are always chaotic.”
