Chapter 339 A Desire to Devour–1
Reese was well aware that Everly’s apology was far from genuine, yet it was a more favorable outcome than a direct confrontation.
As for mimicry, who was incapable of such a thing? Reese mirrored Everly’s grave and earnest demeanor, assuring her, “It’s of no consequence, sister. Don’t let it weigh on your heart. Rest now, for tomorrow you must clean and work overtime. It’s important that you’re well–rested.”
Had Reese not broached the subject, Everly might have been fine. However, the mere mention of it felt like a surgical knife piercing her heart, causing her pain. Everly’s face was nearly frozen, yet she forced a smile. It was nothing short of torment for her.
Observing Everly’s silence, Malcolm barked at her, “Your sister–in–law is speaking to you.”
With gritted teeth, Everly managed to reply, “I understand. Thank you for your concern, Reese. I’ll retire now.”
Having said this, Everly hastily retreated upstairs, fearful that Reese might devise another scheme to harm her.
In the living room, only Malcolm, Reese, and Vincent remained, the latter lazily sipping his tea. Reese felt a twinge of unease at Malcolm’s impassive face, unable to decipher his current thoughts. Perhaps Malcolm feigned indifference, but deep down, he was displeased with Reese’s treatment of Everly. After all, Everly had been raised alongside him in the Flynn family.
This was not the first time Reese and Everly had quarreled in such a manner. However, coaxing an apology out of Reese was a near- impossible feat. If Reese did apologize, it was a clear sign that someone had begun to alter her mindset.
Regardless of Malcolm’s potential anger, Reese had no intention of apologizing to him. If he wished to be angry, so be it.
With a frosty countenance, Reese announced to Malcolm, “I’m going to retire.”
Malcolm remained silent. At this juncture, Vincent rose and remarked as he passed Malcolm, “I can’t believe you’re so smitten with Reese. Everly is your sister, after all. She’s been trailing after you since childhood. By so fervently defending your wife, aren’t you showing favoritism?”
Malcolm’s gaze slowly shifted towards Vincent, laden with a silent warning. “Vincent, don’t assume I’m unaware of why Everly informed Grandpa about this. Wasn’t it you who stirred the pot from behind the scenes?”
Vincent responded with a smile, appearing harmless. Only Malcolm, who had grown up with him, knew the extent of his cunning. “Malcolm, it’s your blatant favoritism towards Reese that has driven Everly to feel unbalanced and act out of jealousy. And now, you’re conveniently shifting all the blame onto me,” Vincent retorted his tone laced with mockery.
Malcolm, of course, grasped Vincent’s insinuations. His face darkened, his lips pressed into a tight line as he shot Vincent a piercing glare. “I swear, if you continue to provoke me, your clinic will be shut down!”
Vincent not only worked at the hospital but also owned his own clinic. His passion for medicine had earned him Grandpa Finn’s support, who hoped that the Flynn family’s offspring would excel in various fields.
However, Vincent understood why Grandpa Finn allowed him to pursue medicine. It was a preventive measure to ensure Vincent wouldn’t vie for Malcolm’s position. If Vincent were deeply rooted in medicine, he wouldn’t interfere with the business sectors, leaving the Flynn Group solely to Malcolm.
Vincent couldn’t afford to lose his clinic. The value he derived from his medical practice could never match a billion–dollar deal. Vincent didn’t believe he was any less ambitious than Malcolm; he simply lacked the opportunity to compete with him.
Malcolm’s refusal to comply created tension between the two. Despite their stoic expressions, the charged atmosphere was palpable.
Malcolm, if you follow through with this, how are you any different from a thug?” Vincent challenged. “I didn’t manipulate Everly, and I challenge you to provide any evidence supporting your claim. Without proof, it’s difficult to make any progress.”

Once Malcolm had spoken, he needed to be fully prepared. How could he allow Vincent to gain the upper hand?
Malcolm exuded an air of confidence, his dominance over Vincent papable. “Would you care to wager? he challenged, his tone icy. “If Everly accuses you of manipulation, your clinic will be shuttered by tomorrow.”
Vincent was acutely aware of Malcolm’s ability to make good on his threat. The risk was too great. The closure of his clinic would be akin to severing his future. Naturally, Vincent was gripped by anxiety, his future hanging in the balance.
His grandfather had expressly forbidden him from entering the business world, and now Malcolm threatened to strip him of his medical career. He was left to ponder his options, to make the best possible decision for his future.

Chapter 339 A Desire to Devour–2
Was it Malcolm and Grandpa’s intention to drive him to his grave?
From a young age, Vincent had learned the art of avoiding conflict, quickly mustered a smile, an attempt to diffuse the mounting tension.
howing his head when he lacked the strength to fight. He
“Malcolm, there’s no need for anger. I was merely joking,” he said, his voice placating.
“Vincent,” Malcolm began, his tone serious, “I value our fraternal bort. I’ve overlooked your past indiscretions, not wishing to harm our relationship. Grandpa desires harmony within our family, and I have no intention of causing him distress. However, my patience is not infinite. Do you comprehend my meaning?”
Malcolm’s aura of dominance was palpable, his seriousness enveloping Vincent.
Vincent realized that a direct confrontation with Malcolm was not the best course of action at this juncture. Once his plan was in motion, Malcolm’s arrogant superiority would crumble, and Vincent would assert his rightful place as the heir of the Flynn family. forcing Malcolm to kneel before him.
For now, however, Vincent was forced to acquiesce to Malcolm’s demands, albeit begrudgingly. “I understand, Malcolm.”
Reese, ever the peacemaker, suggested, “Perhaps you should retire upstairs for a while. You could also speak with Everly, help her move past her current obsession. If not, I may have to introduce her to someone new.”
Vincent scoffed at Reese’s ruthless suggestion before ascending the stairs. Once behind the closed door of his bedroom, his composed facade crumbled, revealing a terrifying, demonic expression.
“Why does Malcolm speak to me with such audacity? We are both of Flynn blood. Am I somehow inferior to him? Why does he always assume a position of superiority? As long as Grandpa lives, the succession of the Flynn family remains undecided. We shall see,” Vincent seethed internally. “And Everly, that fool. She allowed herself to be manipulated by Reese, implicating me in the process. She’s proven herself unreliable.”
Vincent dialed a number, requesting information on the sudden rise of the Flynn Group’s stocks. He also ordered a discreet tail on
Reese.
Vincent was certain that Reese couldn’t disappear without a trace. His goal was to gather evidence against her, reducing Malcolm to a mere underling.
Those in positions of power often abhorred weakness, knowing that it could lead to ruin if exposed. Vincent vowed to himself to avoid emotional entanglements.
After Malcolm had retreated to his room, Reese emerged from the shower. As she towel–dried her hair, she asked, “Did you speak with Vincent?”
“I advised him to cease his manipulation of Everly and to stop his foolish behavior,” Malcolm replied, his voice soft.
Reese could sense that despite Malcolm’s stern demeanor and lack of mercy towards Everly, he still cared for her as a sister. It seemed that Everly’s judgement would be crucial in determining her own fate.
Reese didn’t question whether her actions might incite Malcolm’s anger or give the impression that she was targeting Everly. It was a consideration that Malcolm had not yet entertained. His focus was solely on the Flynn Group’s stocks. As Reese reached for a hairdryer, Malcolm enveloped her in a hug from behind.
Malcolm rested his chin on Reese’s shoulder, inhaling the scent of her hair. His voice was low and seductive. “Reese, you smell divine. I want to… kiss you.”

Reese tensed in Malcolm’s embrace, her heart fluttering. Their relationship had evolved, becoming more sexually charged. Bah dominant personalities, their lovemaking was a battle of wills, a dare they both relished,
Reese turned to face Malcolm, her hands resting on his neck. Malcol eyed her moist lips, a predatory urge taking hold. As he moved to claim her lips, Reese instinctively pulled back.
Malcolm’s attempt was thwarted, and Reese giggled. “I didn’t expect to see Malcolm falter.”
Reese’s words ignited Malcolm’s desire. He pulled her into his embrace, his arm snaking around her waist. Despite her initial resistance, Malcolm claimed her lips in a searing kiss. Reese succumbed to his touch, melting into his arms. They lost themselves in each other, reaching a state of blissful abandon.
However, their passionate encounter necessitated another shower for Reese.
When she emerged, spent but satisfied, Malcolm was still at his desk his fingers dancing across the keyboard. He was a picture of vitality, showing no signs of fatigue. Reese marveled at his seemingly endless energy, even after their sexual escapades. Each encounter was a joyous experience.
Reese noticed that Malcolm was working on a project related to the Harmony Alliance, an underground organization with seemingly legitimate businesses serving as a front.
An inexplicable discomfort washed over her at the sight.
Sensing Reese’s presence, Malcolm punctuated his work with a final keystroke and powered down his computer.
