Chapter 341 Usurping the Project from Malcolm
Malcolm had confirmed that Everhart had indeed made an appearance that day, but had not divulged any information to him.
Reese, despite having anticipated Everhart’s emergence, found herself awash with a complex blend of emotions upon hearing the confirmation from Malcolm.
She harbored some apprehensions about what Everhart might have disclosed, but Malcolm’s reassurances swiftly dispelled her uncertainties. “Fear not, Everhart shared nothing with me. He merely sought to comprehend why he failed to win your favor, while I
succeeded.”
Reese retorted with a dismissive scoff, “Everhart has no right to utter such words.”
The vivid memory of Everhart clawing his way out of the abyss, only to drag her into his personal hell, lingered hauntingly in Reese’s mind. It was an experience she would never forget.
With a gentle sweep of his hand, Malcolm brushed aside a stray lock of hair that had fallen over Reese’s forehead, and inquired, “Could you enlighten me as to why you harbor such intense disdain for him?”
He surmised that Everhart’s influence on Reese was profound. For her to express such vehement dislike, particularly given her usual mastery over her emotions, Everhart must have deeply unsettled her
However, when Malcolm broached the subject, Reese politely declined, “I’d rather not discuss it.”
Respecting her privacy, Malcolm refrained from pressing her further, Very well, I shan’t inquire.” It was understandable that Reese would be reluctant to unveil her deeply buried secrets to others.
Yet, Reese looked at Malcolm earnestly, her eyes clouded with suspicion as she asked, “Are you certain Everhart divulged nothing else to you?”
“Indeed,” Malcolm replied with unwavering certainty. Then, leaning in with a playful smirk, he asked, “Or perhaps there is something my wife is concealing from me?”
Instead of evading his gaze, Reese met it head–on. “We both harbor secrets, do we not? When the time is right, I shall divulge mine. Reese held a firm belief that fate would unveil the truth when necessary, and any attempt to hasten the process would be in vain.
Both Malcolm and Reese understood each other well. If one hinted at something, the other would quickly grasp the meaning. Therefore, Malcolm chose not to probe further. “Let’s retire for the night.”
“Do you not intend to sleep?” Reese noticed his lack of nightwear.
“I have some company matters to attend to. You rest first. I might return later. Also, tomorrow, you must redesign the company’s system. I do not wish to see anyone other than you infiltrating the company’s intranet again,” Malcolm said, patting Reese lightly.
Reese knew he wasn’t overly concerned about it. “Very well, attend to your duties.”
Once Malcolm had departed, Reese planned to contact Calvin regarding the matter. She watched Malcolm leave, locked the door, and moved to the balcony. She watched Malcolm exit the gate before dialing Calvin’s number. Despite the late hour, Calvin promptly
answered Reese’s call and immediately set out. “Boss.”
Check if the Harmony Alliance is currently engaged in a project. I noticed Malcolm preparing for something.”
“Give me a moment.” Calvin headed towards his parked car, phone in hand. It was a necessary inconvenience to always be prepared with their computers to handle sudden emergencies.

He swiftly located the information. “Found It, Reese. It appears the Harmony Alliance has been monitoring this project for some time, but it seems to have escaped the notice of other companies.”
Reese quickly deduced that this insider information was likely what Malcolm had discovered. It seemed that Malcolm had some connection with the Harmony Alliance, as he wouldn’t typically concern himself with such trivial matters.
Noticing Reese’s silence, Calvin prompted her. “Reese, what’s the matter? Do you have a plan?”
“Indeed, I intend to seize this project.” Reese made no attempt to conceal her ambition.
“Boss, are you planning to usurp another project from your husband? We did the same with the last project. Won’t this tarnish our reputation?” Even Calvin, usually so audacious, felt a twinge of embarrassment this time.
Reese found herself at a loss for words in the face of Calvin’s audacity, yet she didn’t hold back her reproach. “Why weren’t you more considerate before? And what’s more important to you, reputation or money?”
“Money!” Calvin’s response was immediate, without a hint of hesitation.
Reese sighed, “That’s it then. Next time, don’t waste time with so much nonsense. We’re not just taking on this project to make money. Perhaps, this project will become our bargaining chip in negotiations with the Harmony Alliance.”
The project held potential to mitigate their risks.
Reese was a woman who had never known fear in her entire life. Louis and Kay would move mountains for her, a testament to the respect she had earned from them. However, she knew better than to exploit their loyalty recklessly. It was a common human trait to prioritize self–interest, but it was equally important to consider the perspectives of others. Failure to do so could lead to a gradual erosion of relationships over time.
Calvin’s mind seemed to clear at Reese’s words, “Barter.”
“Consider staying awake tonight, our time is limited. I see Malcolm has already finished the project proposal. Once he takes action, we will lose the chance. We must act quickly,” Reese advised.
To have Reese’s project chosen over Malcolm’s, it needed to be superior, creating greater value. Calvin acknowledged this and responded, “I understand, I’ll have Kay and Louis start working on it.
“Thank you for your hard work,” Reese expressed her gratitude, guilt gnawing at her for making them work late into the night. However, the gravity of the situation demanded such sacrifices.
After ending the call, Reese reached for her laptop. As soon as she received the information from Calvin, she steeled herself for a long night of work on the project. It was unclear whether Malcolm was also burning the midnight oil at the office.
Reese felt a twinge of nervousness this time around, a stark contrast to her usual indifference towards project proposals. She was always confident of her victory, but this time her opponent was Malcolm. Reese pondered whether her unease stemmed from a lack of confidence or a fear of disappointing Malcolm.
Nevertheless, she managed to refocus and by 8 a.m., the project plan was thoroughly checked and finalized. Calvin had already reached out to the necessary parties and was now awaiting Reese’s plan.
Reese sent a message to Calvin.
Reese: [Wait for me at the coffee store near Duren Square, I’m coming right now.]
Calvin: [Okay.]
Calvin, who had also spent the night awake, responded immediately to Reese’s message, as if her words had injected him with a
