Chapter 69 Has Everyone Lost Their Minds?-1
Reese had only played in one public game and then vanished from the scene, yet the views on her impressive gameplay videos were skyrocketing.
Alyssa had initially just wanted to give it a try; although she was a novice, she could tell that Reese’s play style and reflexes were no match for an average player. Reese’s reaction time and her ability to anticipate the opponent’s movements were those of a master, much to Alyssa’s surprise.
She was now a confirmed fan of Reese and planned to have her as a mentor, hoping to someday experience what it felt like to compete at the national level.
As Alyssa mused on this, she poured Reese some milk, her smile broadening.
“Sister–in–law, drink up,” she offered cheerfully.
Reese cringed a bit at Alyssa’s smile, feeling a wave of goosebumps
Standing up, unable to take the cloying atmosphere any longer, Reese announced, “I should get going.”
“I’ll walk you out, sis. We’re almost late as it is,” Alyssa promptly replied.
Hearing Reese was leaving, Alyssa stuffed the rest of her eggs into her mouth and hurried to follow.
Everly, witnessing the scene, was livid, her face contorting with rage.
“All of you have gone mad, fussing over some backwoods girl as if she’s the next best thing,” Everly sneered.
Back in the study, Finn Sawyer’s face was grave, a hint of anger lurking as he turned to Malcolm and accused, “Did you just ignore my words last time? She’s just a girl you married for luck. If she hadn’t claimed she could heal your leg, I’d have had the two of you divorced already. And yet here you are, taking her side at every turn. How does that look to our staff? You’re the heir to the Flynn family and here you are, indulging a woman like a spoiled fool!”
Unruffled, Malcolm’s voice held a firm resolve as if he’d had the words at the ready. “Grandpa, if Reese is the one who can heal my leg, then we, the Flynn family, owe it to her to treat her right. If word gets around that I’m not standing up for her, how do you think that will look?”
“I’m not saying you can’t defend her,” his grandpa responded measuredly, “but you need to keep things in perspective. Our family rules can’t be thrown into disarray by someone from outside.”
Turning the age–old family rules on its head because of a young girl was inconceivable to him. How would he face his ancestors if such a thing came to pass?
Yet the anger flashed in Malcolm’s eyes, sharp as the sunlight streaming through the window.
‘I don’t want to have to tell you again, Grandpa. Now that Reese is my wife, she’s a member of the Flynn family. Once my leg is healed, we’ll be trying for a child,” Malcolm declared, his cold demeanor unchanged.
Finn Sawyers eyes widened. “You want to have kids with her? A backwoods girl who’s clearly not the sharpest tool in the shed and has a temper to boot? No telling what the kid will turn out like.”
“Grandpa, don’t let me hear you talk like that again. And certainly, don’t let my wife hear it.”
Malcolm’s gaze returned sharper than before, piercing as the sun.

Finn Sawyer cared about Malcolm’s well–being too much to keep needling him. Malcolm was stubborn; once he set his mind on someone or something, it was almost impossible to sway him.
There was one more card up his sleeve, though, that he hadn’t played yet.
Alyssa drove up just then and spotted Reese by the roadside, pressing down on the accelerator eagerly.
“Sis–in–law, hop in! Let me take you for a drive.”
“It’s work hours; who has time for joyrides? thought Reese. Miss Third must’ve grown up quite pampered to not understand the struggles of the working class.

Chapter 69 Has Everyone Lost Their Minds?-2
Despite her own comfortable financial situation, Reese wasn’t about to let herself be docked pay for not showing up.
Alyssa parked the car and approached to tug at Reese, but the gesture was neatly sidestepped.
She noticed Reese’s look of distaste and paused, puzzled. “What’s the matter with you?”
Reese replied coolly, ‘I’m not fond of people touching me.”
Alyssa asked awkwardly, “Do you have social anxiety, or is it something psychological?” She even made a sensitive gesture to soften the inquiry.
But Reese had read Alyssa’s thoughts from the get–go.
“If I had social anxiety, you’d have noticed by now,” she retorted with an edge.
Alyssa shrugged. Seems that way. Your wit cuts deeper than most.”
“If you’re heading that way, you can drop me at the office.”
Reese wasn’t in the mood for a leisurely drive; she had plans to stop by the office today to see if she could pry some information from the higher–ups at the Flynn Group about that project.
The thing about the Flynn Group was, whenever they had a new project, secrecy was the name of the game. Unless you were part of the project’s inner circle, you were in the dark.
She had to tread carefully, though. If Malcolm got even a whiff of her snooping, he’d leave no stone unturned investigating her, and by the time the dust settled, it might be too late even to consider a divorce as an escape.
Alyssa felt powerless around Reese. She had a hunch that any attempt to drive Reese somewhere else would backfire with a fierce argument, derailing the plans even further.
“Fine, I’ll take you to the office,” Alyssa resigned, “And hey, if you need cash, just get Malcolm to give you a credit card. Save you from counting pennies every time you shop.”
“He did.” Reese replied, her voice distant. The card had been lying untouched in the drawer of her nightstand.
“Good to hear. Now, sis, buy whatever you want, don’t worry about pinching pennies for Malcolm’s sake.”
“Mhm.” Reese responded absently. Her mind was busy weaving strategies to extract the location of the project’s plans from the executives–just a glimpse could be enormously beneficial to her.
Alyssa caught a glimpse of Reese in the rearview mirror–sitting in the back seat, brows furrowed, gaze vacant, exuding an intense sharpness that seemed to be lost in thought.
There was an uncommon edge to Reese’s allure that set her apart from other women–a poised beauty with an underlying keenness.
Stunning indeed, but those eyes, those eyes seemed to hide a multitude of secrets–impenetrable, ungraspable.
Alyssa was curious about what kind of life could sharpen a girl’s gaze like that, but her contemplations were cut short as she turned her attention to her own pressing matters.
Um about that favor with the live streaming, Alyssa ventured aga, ‘could you reconsider? I’m willing to trade it for any condition.”

Reese was no longer surprised by Alyssa bringing this up again. Having been raised with privilege and a strong sense of self, and after having a rare moment of self–satisfaction the previous evening it was understandable how distressed she would be with the threat of being exposed.
Still, Reese loathed people who broke their promises.
She offered no response.
Desperation growing, Alyssa was nearly at the point of begging on her knees. “Please, please give it another thought. I swear, I’l never break my promise again. Whatever you say goes–without you pining, I can’t save face. I’m counting on a winner like you to take me under your wing.”
Reese raised a querying brow. “Since when did I become a champion
Sure, wasn’t it? A couple of years back, weren’t you competing in that international tournament? I even have the video clip right here.”
