The women standing alongside Dahlia Brooks, including Anna, who just been buttering her up, now erupted in laughter.
“Dahlia, looks like Malcolm’s love for you is rather unique, huh? Instead of a mansion, he sends a luxury car to take you to a funeral home?”
“Seriously, what’s up with that? It’s almost like he’s mocking you. I’ve never heard of anyone showing affection by shipping someone off to a mortuary.”
Dahlia Brooks, who’d been so smug moments before, now looked utterly flustered, unable to preserve even a semblance of
composure.
She whirled around, lashing out at them. “Cut the crap! They must’ve made a mistake. Don’t believe it? Ask Alyssa–she’s Malcolm’s sister, and she’s right here. Would she be in on a lie?”
At that moment, Dahlia pinned all her hopes on Alyssa.
All eyes instantly snapped onto Alyssa, who merely let out a couple of awkward chuckles.
“Yeah, the ride was arranged by my brother Malcolm, that part’s true. But him sending you to a funeral home? That’s news to me. Seems like your love for him is a moth to a flame–destined to turn to ashes.”
Dahlia’s eyes nearly bulged out of her head, her face instantly turning ashen.
“That’s not what you said earlier.”
“And what exactly did I say? I didn’t say a thing. As for you, when did Malcolm take a lover on the side? This is the first I’m hearing of it. Sure, Reese wasn’t exactly our family’s first choice, but compared to your wild fabrications, she’s a saint.”
Alyssa was done putting up a front with Dahlia Brooks. She couldn’t stand women like her who had nothing but pretended to be something they weren’t. It was Dahlia who, upon hearing Malcolm might never walk again, worried she couldn’t rely on him anymore and pushed Reese onto them.
Now Dahlia had the gall to show up, fawning over them–it was downright revolting.
The realization finally hit Dahlia that she’d been played by Alyssa.

The men in black, who had been well–paid by Reese, were there to carry out her instructions.
They approached Dahlia, one on each side, ready to escort her to the car.
Realizing it was a ride to a funeral home, Dahlia panicked and began to struggle desperately.
“No…let me go, I’m not getting in!”

Alyssa watched as Dahlia Brooks‘ once haughty face now resembled deflated balloon wilted eggplant, and she couldn’t help but feel a surge of glee.
With deliberate sarcasm she called out, “You better appreciate what Malcolm has done for you–riding in a luxury car like this isn’t
for just anyone.”
“I’m not going! Let me go, you jerksjerk!*
Alone, Dahlia stood no chance against the group
of men who promptly hoisted her into the car and slammed the door shut.
As the car drove away, Alyssa clapped her hands in triumph and struted off.
Dahlia’s entourage stood there, their mouths agape
in utter shock.
The next time Reese’s phone buzzed with a call from Alyssa, he couldn’t contain his laughter on the other end.
“Oh my God, you should’ve seen your sister’s face. I almost died laughing. She was all puffed up bragging to her little posse, acting like Malcolm had never seen a woman before. Then your crew showed up with the cars, and it was a total smackdown.”
It was just a little lesson for Dahlia Brooks. Even if she wasn’t into Malcolm, he was hers until she said otherwise, and certainly not for someone else to covet.

Dahlia really had some neive, strutting around footing everyone. It wasn’t taught a lesson, who to say others subter’t try to walk all over het, too?

Alyssa had been meaning to ask; after all, Reese had just started at the company straight out of Backwoods–she most likely bearer‘ even gotten her first paycheck.
Reese couldn’t blow her covet, so she casually deflected.
“Last time I saw him, Malcolm gave me his card.”
“Oh, that works. Feel free to splurge–Malcolm’s looking for a girl to burn through his cash anyway. Reese, make sure you cover for me on the livestream tonight.”
Alyssa remembered the upcoming challenge with other popular streamers–a gamble for the title of top broadcaster with the prospect of attending year–end conferences and meeting industry bigwigs. This was her dream, and it wasn’t something money could buy; it had to be earned.
Reese, a person with little tolerance for dishonesty, also valued keeping her word.
“Don’t worry, if I’ve made a promise, I’ll keep it.”
“Muah,” Alyssa cooed, ending the call with audible joy.
It didn’t take long for Alyssa to recount the event with delighted laughter to Malcolm. Surprisingly, he had an unexpected take.
“Is Reese jealous or something?”
“Yeah, must be, or why go to all that trouble to set up Dahlia Brooks? You should’ve seen her face; it nearly cracked me up.”
Alyssa felt a day’s worth of amusement swell within her. Turns out, you didn’t always need to confront sharply, sometimes slipping a sly one behind the scenes to embarrass someone worked even better.
Mhm, she made a mental note to learn a few tricks from Reese.
Malcolm, chuckling, had the shareholders around him utterly gobsmacked.
There was Mr. Flynn, answering personal calls during meetings was one thing, but laughing? That was unheard of.
A shareholder couldn’t help but ask his neighbor, as if he’d seen a ghost, “Am I seeing things, or did Mr. Flynn just laugh?
“No, you saw right; he did laugh. I’ve been with the Flynn Group for years, never seen Mr. Flynn crack a smile. Every meeting, it’s
always that stern face. I feel like I need a heart check–up after each one, make sure it’s still ticking.”
“What can you do, Mr. Flynn’s always tough on business. Every time we have a meeting, I feel as heavy as if I’m going to a funeral, half–scared my old bones won’t be able to take a few harsh words from him.”
“I heard Mr. Flynn recently got hitched to a lady whose family isn’t much to speak of.”
“No wonder Mr. Flynn’s been in high spirits, nothing like happy events to put a spring in your step.”

Malcolm hadn’t noticed the chatter below; he was fully engrossed in lyssa’s stories about Reese, even picturing Reese’s brush eyes twinkling with mischief, lips curved in a faint smile.
His wife, a true mastermind. Now, all those troublemakers looking to get close to him would be dealt with.
“Bro, my friend’s here; gotta go.”
“Alright.” Malcolm ended the call, quite pleased.
He then turned to Justin Chabon and said, “When Reese arrives, send her to my office.”
Justin’s heart was pounding. What could Mr. Flynn want with Madam? Was it trouble, or just another public display of affection?
The thought made him shiver–not more lovey–dovey stuff; he’d die an early death from all the PDA.
Still, he dutifully responded to Malcolm’s request, “Yes, Mr. Flynn.”
