Two weeks later.
Charlie and Natalie had both confessed to their crimes.
Only Lucas remained silent. He requested to see me one last time, promising to confess all his crimes afterwards.
After a few seconds of consideration, I chose to meet him.
Although only two weeks had passed, Lucas looked like he had aged a decade.
His tired eyes instantly filled with light when he saw me through the glass.
“Chloe, thank you for being willing to see me one last time.”
“You know, in the dozen or so days I’ve been here, there hasn’t been a second when I wasn’t filled with regret. I’ve imagined countless ‘what ifs‘.”

Lunes stared at me almost reverently, his body trembling slightly from his eagerness to hear the answer.
I replied without a moment’s hesitation:
“No.”

“Lucas Foster, every second I was forced to spend with you over these four years made me feel utterly disgusted.”
After saying this, I lost my last bit of patience.
Under Lucas’s utterly despairing gaze, I turned and walked out of the police station without looking back.
After walking a few steps, I heard someone calling my name from behind.
Lucas’s lawyer ran up to me, sweating profusely, and handed me an envelope.
