Lucas seemed rooted to the spot, ignoring the constant flashes of cameras in front of him. He opened his mouth in disbelief and asked me:
“So, you knew about all of this?”
At that moment, a dark shadow suddenly flashed in front of me.
It was Natalie, enraged beyond reason. She picked up a chair and swung it directly at me.
But before the chair could hit me, Lucas blocked it, taking the blow on his back.
He let out a muffled groan but still insisted on shielding me.
Lucas kicked Natalie down, roaring with bloodshot eyes:
“Haven’t I told you not to touch her?! We will always owe her for this. Can’t you understand what I’m saying?!”
Saying this, he mercilessly ground his foot on the hand Natalie had used to hold the chair.
His out–of–control behavior surprised even me.
It turned out that compared to Natalie, Lucas was the craziest one.
Natalie let out a shrill scream, crying as she turned to Charlie for help:
“Charlie, my brother has gone mad. Quick, save me!”
Charlie frowned slightly but looked at her just as coldly.
“Natalie, you’ve gone too far. Lucas is right, we owe Chloe for this. You shouldn’t have tried to hurt her after already benefiting from the situation.”
His voice trembled as he spoke the last few words.
Charlie walked in front of me, his eyes full of guilt. He clenched his fists and lowered his eyes, unable to look directly at me.
“Chloe, I never thought you’d find out about all this. I guess I owe you an apology for what happened back then.”
“But I had my reasons too. Four years ago, my family business was in trouble. I had no choice but to follow Lucas’s instructions to get close to you, deceive you emotionally, and then betray you, all to obtain a heart at the cost of your sister’s life.”
“Over these years, I’ve gained everything. I always thought I could live with a clear conscience because when I agreed to help Lucas back then, one reason was to help Natalie with her illness.”
“But after leaving you, I gradually realized that the person I truly loved was never Natalie, I had already fallen in love with you during the time we were dating.”
“Now that you’ve ruined the IPO celebration and caused such a big scene, tarnishing the reputation of all three of us, have you gotten your revenge? So… can you forgive me for the mistakes I made back then?”
1 couldn’t understand how Charlie had the audacity to beg for my forgiveness.
At the same time, I felt a wave of sadness.
In the eyes of these rich kids, the biggest revenge someone helpless like me could think of was probably just this.
Afterwards, they could easily cover up the public opinion I had created today with countless lies.
They might even turn the tables and drag me down into the abyss.
They might even turn the tables and drag me down into the abyss.
But I had anticipated this point.
Since I chose to do this, I might as well do it thoroughly.
The justice they owe me, the law will give me under absolute evidence.
I silently smiled at Charlie’s question.
The next second, three police cars arrived with sirens blaring.
The police officers quickly surrounded Lucas, Charlie, and Natalie.
“We’ve received a report that you three are suspected of intentional homicide, organ trafficking, and business crimes. Please come with us.”
Charlie instantly lost his previous composure:
“You… you actually called the police? Where did you get the evidence?”
Natalie looked at the police in terror, clutching her chest and breathing heavily, as if she might faint at any moment.
Only Lucas, after a moment of shock, had a pained expression on his face. He stared at me desperately:
“I understand now. What was shown on the screen earlier was just the tip of the iceberg.”
“So you’ve known about my deception all along, and you’ve been hiding by my side, setting up this big trap…”
“Chloe, tell me, when you chose to marry me four years ago, it wasn’t out of true feelings at all, but for this day, right?”
I answered without hesitation:
“Yes. This is what you owe me, and my sister.”
These words seemed to drain all the strength from Lucas’s body.
He didn’t struggle at all, allowing the police to handcuff him and put him in the police car.
Charlie quickly accepted reality too, his eyes devoid of any light as he left.
Natalie, however, was struggling desperately, cursing me loudly despite the police’s warnings:
“Chloe Hayes, you scheming bitch, I hope you die a miserable death!”
“Don’t think you’ve won yet. I’ll get out one day and kill you. I’ll make you realize that not everyone can be messed with!”
“A lowly orphan like you should have died under my car along with your sister. At least your sister’s heart was somewhat useful, but you’re completely worthless! Mmph-”
Before she could finish, someone stuffed a rag torn from a mop into her mouth.
It was Lucas’s personal secretary, Leo Anderson,
Natalie couldn’t stand the disgusting taste of the rag and was brought to tears, but with her hands cuffed, she could do nothing about it.
After the three were taken away in separate police cars, the crowd that had come for the IPO celebration dispersed like birds and beasts.
Only Leo and I were left in the vast hall.
Lea’s eyes were red–rimmed as he fought back tears. He smiled and gave me a hug.
“Chice, we finally succeeded after four years.”
*Yes, four years. Claire must be happy in heaven now, seeing these bad people who hurt her finally brought to justice.”
I said softly, my gaze drifting to the distance, my memories seeming to return to a time long ago.
Leo was Claire’s college classmate, and like us, he was an orphan without parents.
But he was introverted and rarely spoke, often isolated and bullied at school. Under such desperate torment, Leo had once considered ending his life.
But when he stood by the river, ready to jump, it was Claire who risked her life to stop him.
Afterwards, she wrote him encouraging letters every day, intervened countless times when classmates mocked and ridiculed him, and became his only and
