“Even if you don‘ t divorce her, surely you
could secretly find another woman to carry your child…”

Chapter 10
Those words hit a deep, raw nerve in
Benedict. His face flushed with a mix of
embarrassment and fury, and he shot his mother a glare before storming out of the house.
As he drove home, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was terribly wrong. His finger repeatedly pressed Odette’s name on his phone, dialing her number over and over, seven, maybe eight times, but there was
no answer. Not once.
A cold sense of dread slowly crept up his spine.
At that moment, his phone buzzed with a new
Chapter 10
message from Millicent, relentless as always.
He glanced at the screen, his irritation bubbling up, but then his eyes caught something that made his heart skip.
A trending topic on Twitter flashed before him. [A certain Clarendon–named director from Regency General Hospital was accused of using improper methods to gain her position.]
Benedict clicked on the post, his eyes scanning the flood of hateful comments aimed at Odette. The accusations were vicious, claiming she had plagiarized the hospital’s deputy director’s research and suggesting that someone so young couldn’t possibly rise to such a position without foul play.
Chapter 10
Fury bubbled up inside him, his fists
clenching in anger. He knew better than anyone how hard Odette had worked to earn her place as director.
She had sacrificed countless hours, working overtime until her body ached and spending sleepless nights buried in data and reports. Every ounce of effort she put into writing that paper had been, for this moment, her rightful promotion.
The memories of their marriage flooded his
mind. Odette had endured more than her fair
share of injustice.
Despite being a life–saving doctor, her connection to him, an affluent CEO, had always cast a shadow over her

accomplishments. Her success was never
seen for what it truly was but was reduced to “favors” she supposedly received because
of him.
The deputy director’s voice echoed through the livestream, their face hidden, but their self–congratulating tone full of slanderous lies
aimed at Odette.
“Find out who leaked this and send someone to the hospital immediately to investigate!” Benedict barked into the phone, his brows drawn tightly together, a storm brewing in his chest.
“Yes, Mr. Evander. I’ll handle it right away,” his assistant responded without hesitation.
Meanwhile, Millicent called again, her voice

dripping with desperation.
“Brother, I’m in so much pain. Ever since I fell at the hospital yesterday, my stomach hasn’t felt right. I think… I think I had a miscarriage. Can you come check on me?”
Benedict‘ s head throbbed, the pressure building until it felt like his skull might crack. “I don’t have time for this right now. Stop bothering me.”
But Millicent wasn‘ t one to give up easily. She started a live stream, her voice full of faux vulnerability.
As a popular TV anchor, Millicent had mastered the art of persuasion, her followers hanging on her every word. They all knew she had a wealthy, doting boyfriend, so they

flocked to her side, offering support without hesitation.
“Sisters, you won’t believe what happened at the hospital yesterday,” she began, tears streaming down her face.
“A doctor bullied me. I swear, this woman has no morals. She’s been trying to steal my boyfriend away out of jealousy and even pushed me down the stairs on purpose. My stomach hurts so much now…
Millicent‘ s dramatic act sparked an outpouring of rage from her followers.
The comments flooded in, anger erupting as they condemned the supposed doctor who had wronged her. Some viewers quickly connected Millicent’s claims to the earlier

scandal involving Odette and the plagiarism
accusations.
Comments flooded the livestream like a
torrential storm.
[What’s happened to doctors these days? Is anyone allowed to wear a white coat now?]
[Pushing someone down the stairs out of spite? That’s worse than the doctor accused of plagiarism today.]
[Don’t cry, Millicent! Go to the hospital right away! There’s a life on the line!]
[Exactly! Which hospital are you going to? We’ll be there to stand with you and demand justice!]
[Right! Millicent‘ s boyfriend will definitely

protect us, won’t he?]
Millicent smiled faintly, playing the part with practiced ease. “Of course. Just the other day, my boyfriend gave me a riverside villa.”
[Wow, I’m so jealous! I heard Odette Haven was custom–built by the Evander Group CEO for his beloved wife. I didn’t expect Millicent’s boyfriend to get one, too!]
[He must be a god–like man, capable, influential, handsome, and rich. No wonder he won over someone as stunning as Millicent.]
