Chapter 21
Benedict knew all too well just how vast and remote South Africa was.
Once, Odette had been willing to stay by his side, no matter the distance. Now, it was his turn to go to any length for her.
When Benedict returned home, he was startled to find a figure slumped at his front door, resembling a beggar.
Upon closer inspection, he recognized the face, Millicent.
His disgust surged, and with a swift motion, he kicked her aside before unlocking the door with a press of his finger.
Chapter 21
Millicent had been outside in the cold for two
days and now burned with a fever. With what little strength she had left, she crawled toward him, her arms wrapping around his legs.
“Benedict, I’m so cold… so cold…” she
shivered, her voice weak.
Benedict shoved her away with a forceful jerk, sending her crashing to the ground. “Stay away from me. We‘ re finished.”
Millicent’s voice cracked with desperation. “How could you be so cruel to me, Benedict?
What did I do to deserve this?!”
Benedict’s eyes flashed with fury as he stepped back. “What did you do wrong? You rear–ended Odette’s car on purpose, added

her on WhatsApp, and provoked her. You made sure she knew everything about your dirty games. You smeared her name, bribed people to accuse her of plagiarism, and made a scene in the hospital. That’s what you did wrong!”
He spat out each accusation, his voice a mixture of rage and disbelief.
Millicent felt wronged, her voice shaking with indignation. “Benedict, how dare you do all this and not even admit it?! What did you mean when you said in the hospital that I wouldn’t be pregnant with your child?”
Benedict sneered, his words cold and
calculated. “Because the day after Odette had her uterus removed, I had a vasectomy. So,
Chapter 21
Millicent, where exactly did you get a child from?”
Millicent’s eyes widened in disbelief. “You’re insane, Benedict! You actually gave up having children for Odette?!”
Her heart shattered as his words pierced through the fantasy she’d built of using a child to climb higher, just like those other
shallow socialites.
“I can give up everything except her,” Benedict said, his voice steady and persistent.
“No, I’ve lost everything for you!” Millicent screamed. “I have no house, no car, I even lost my job, and now I’m nothing but a street rat everyone despises! Even if you don’t want me anymore, you still owe me compensation!”
Chapter 21
Millicent had invested everything to reel
Benedict back in.
She had convinced her gambling–addicted father to fund a debutante training course for
her.
Millicent enrolled, driven by envy after
watching a girl who had once spoken with a harsh, rural accent transform into something mesmerizing, like a phoenix rising from the
ashes.
The more Millicent watched, the more her jealousy festered. After digging for answers, she discovered the girl’s success had come at the expense of her parents, who had
sacrificed everything just to send her to that
course.
Chapter 21
When Millicent‘ s father discovered that she
wouldn’t be making money anytime soon but would only continue to drain resources, he nearly beat her to death in his fury.
After enrolling in the debutante course, Millicent took out loans to finance various
personal transformations.
This included cosmetic surgery, hairstyling, and a complete wardrobe makeover; she spared no expense from head to toe.
Next, she endured rigorous training in sitting posture, standing posture, and mastering social grace.
Then came the lessons on how to charm rich heirs, complete with specific phrases and social techniques.
Chapter 21
To fit in with the elite, the fake socialites were even trained in the kinds of activities favored by the second–generation heirs.
Horseback riding, golf, billiards, wine tasting, and the whole world of luxury were her new playgrounds.
Millicent poured millions into her debutante training, hoping for a future built on her transformed image.
Finally, through a series of well–placed moves and resources, she managed to seduce Benedict.
Though it had been a short time, Benedict had already sacrificed much for her.
Millicent’s father was overjoyed seeing his daughter with a rich man; he thought she was

his golden ticket.
He drained every cent he could from her, treating her newfound wealth as his own.
But before Millicent had even enjoyed the luxury of the villa or the cars or made a dent in her crushing loans, Benedict cast her aside
without hesitation.
