Chapter 16 Michael’s Rhetorical Questions
Michael was just chilling there.
The bodyguards and caregivers had bounced.
He was still caught up in the emotional rollercoaster from earlier.
He couldn’t remember ever being head over heels for any woman before in his life.
Nor could he recall any girl who could mess with his feelings so easily.
Sure, he was a cold–hearted man in his actions, but he was always rock–solid emotionally.
He didn’t get why, with Elizabeth showing up in his life, he was suddenly all over the place.
His mood was like a yo–yo, always changing with whatever Elizabeth did.
Even at work, when Daniel brought up Elizabeth, he couldn’t help but tune in.
The old Michael was always sharp and on point, never swayed by a woman.
But tonight, Elizabeth had him feeling all kinds of ways.
A tiny move from her almost got him hyped.
Michael felt like he didn’t even know himself anymore.
Filled with doubts about who he was becoming, Michael crashed into a deep sleep.
In his dream, Elizabeth was rocking a fiery red dress, slipping the strap off her shoulder, smiling and strutting towards him.
The next morning, Elizabeth got up early on purpose.
If waking up late meant running into him, she’d rather skip the extra sleep, in which way she could skirt around that demon Michael.
Elizabeth thought she was pretty slick.
She dressed quietly and tiptoed out, heading to the dining room.
The idea of not having to face that ice–cold face instantly lifted her spirits.
But as soon as she stepped into the dining room, she froze.
There he was again, Michael.
What time did this guy get up? Why was he always around?
But since she was already out, there was no point in retreating to he room.
That would make her look guilty and weak.
Elizabeth reluctantly sat down, keeping her usual distance from Michel,

Chapter 16 Michael’s Rhetorical Questions
Susan brought her a plate of pancake.
The pancake looked super appetizing.
“Mrs. Thomas, you’re up early today, too. You mentioned pancake yesterday, so I suppose you’d enjoy it. Give it a try and let me know what you think,” Susan said with a smile.
Elizabeth smiled back at Susan, “Thanks, Susan.”
Then she dug into the pancake.
She didn’t even glance at Michael.
Since she couldn’t avoid him, she might as well act like he wasn’t there.
After all, she couldn’t kick him out; this was still his turf.

Susan’s cooking was on point as always.
The pancake was amazing.
Elizabeth scarfed it down in no time.
She didn’t control her appetite and ate a bit too much, making her pants feel a bit tight around the waist. But she still finished eating quickly.
Susan came to collect the plates and saw her sitting there, rubbing her stomach with a satisfied look. She smiled and said, “Looks
like Mrs. Thomas really loves pancake.”
Michael glanced at her slightly.
He thought he had assumed Elizabeth would lose her appetite around him, but she ate more than he did.
He sneakily glanced at her rubbing her stomach.
Suddenly, he thought of holding her in his arms last night.
Her slender wrist felt like it could snap with a little force.
He thought of her slim waist.
She looked small and thin, but she had a killer figure.
Michael realized he couldn’t keep imagining.
Otherwise, some strange feelings inside him might eat him alive,
He said casually, “After breakfast, we’re heading to see my mom. You better know what to say and what to zip it about.”
Elizabeth shot back, “If you want my help, it’s doable. But you gotta ay up first.”
Stie sounded all brave, but under the table, her fists were clenched tht.
Michael looked a bit surprised, then glanced at her with a whatever bok, “Pay for what?

Elizabeth got ticked off seeing his fake cluelessness, “Don’t play dumb. You ripped my dress last night, so you owe me! When are you gonna pay up?”
She knew he was loaded, but she was worried he’d just blow her off. If he did, she couldn’t do anything about it.
That dress cost a fortune. How many translation gigs would she need to cover it?
Michael saw her getting all worked up and chuckled to himself.
He didn’t get why he loved talking nonsense with her so much.
Susan had already told him last night.
Elizabeth had asked him to cover the dress.
But this morning, as soon as he saw her, he couldn’t resist teasing her.
It was like poking a small, easily riled–up animal.
A soft feather seemed to brush across his heart.
He actually enjoyed it.
“There’s not that much cash lying around here.” He took a sip of milk, “If you’re in a rush, I’ll transfer it to you.”
Seeing he wasn’t gonna back out, Elizabeth lit up. She quickly pulled out her phone and showed him the payment code.
Michael saw her eager face and slowly took out his phone, opening the scanner, “How much?”
Elizabeth lifted her chin, “Ten grand.”
Michael looked up at her. Seeing her cocky look, he couldn’t help but ask, “Didn’t the tag say eight grand?”
Elizabeth glared and snapped, “You saw the tag, and you’re still asking me how much? Are you playing dumb?” She raised her right hand, showing the obvious bruise, “See this? Who
did this to my wrist? The extra two grand is for medical expenses. You should be
glad I’m not charging you for emotional distress.”
Michael lowered his head and entered ten grand on his phone.
As he did, a faint smile flashed his lips..
Elizabeth wasn’t the scaredy–cat she was when she first got here.
He seemed to like seeing her always ready to stand up to him because she seemed more alive.
After confirming the payment, Elizabeth felt a leap of relief, and he tone softened, “Michael, don’t think just ‘cause you paid me. let it slide. Don’t forget, you owed me this.”
She waved her bruised wrist at him like a challenge.
He glanced at her indifferently. But he didn’t argue back, just silent wheeled himself away.
Elizabeth found it odd that Michael was so chill today.
The driver took Michael and Elizabeth to the old mansion.
