Gabriel was determined to find the witch, even though it seemed like Lori had lost all hope in finding the witch or Jack
and Sabine. He had watched her be extremely hopeful on the flight to New York only to be dejected once they arrived at
the empty apartments. He wished there was a way he could make her feel better but he suspected that the only thing
that would make her feel better was an actual lead. A promising one.

There were some random books, all of which the writing looked incorrigible. She was probably practicing and writing
down spells, that was what it looked like.
Then there were some old clothes, those ones he had taken his time to sniff and he had stuffed the one with the most
recent scent down in his pocket so he could use it later. He stumbled across a receipt. A receipt for some candles and
special herbs, he had been almost ready to dispose of it until he looked closer.

It was no ordinary receipt. And the date was very recent. Two days ago, but it was the address that caught his eye. A witch was never far from her apothecary. Depending on how frequent they performed spells, they would often visit the
shops around them to restock on herbs, candles and whatnot.
This address was in New York, far from the apartments but it gave him a better lead.
Chinatown.
There was no other reasons she’d go and get herbs that far unless she lived in the area. Or knew people in the area. He was going to find her.
“Let’s go.”
He urged Lori as he reappeared back into the room where Jack had been.

“Where?”
“I found the witch’s address. We have to leave now.”
Her eyes lit up in surprise as she stood up.
“Okay. Okay.”
She murmured and they left.
On the way Draco called them and Gabriel filled him in on everything while they drove to the place. Draco asked if
Gabriel needed backup and Gabriel told him they were fine on their own.
After a while they arrived in the busy streets of Chinatown and Gabriel tried to track her down solely by scent. He tried
looking for the shop but with the rows and rows of tightly packed shops, it was going to be hard. Besides, he didn’t want
to lose her scent just yet.
“Anything?!”

Lori murmured as she walked behind him. Her eyes had been looking around for the shop, while Gabriel was focused on
the scent. She dreaded his answer as she waited with bated breath.
Suddenly, Gabriel paused.
“I think I found something.”
He murmured.

She asked in excitement.
“A scent.”
He replied and she nodded.
“I think I found her scent.”

He murmured as he broke out in a sprint. Lori ran after him.
He ran several blocks, he was fast, maneuvering around people like they were nothing but feeble sticks, it was a pain to
catch up to him, especially when he ran so fast but she managed to and then he finally turned around a corner and she
slowed down a bit.
When she caught up with him, she was panting. He pointed to a red building with high windows.
“There.”
“You think she’s there?!”
Lori asked and Gabriel shrugged as he put his hand on the handle of the door.
“Only one way to find out.”
***************
Vara had been languishing in a new cell that they had given her. She was tired. Honestly exhausted about being locked
up. Apparently Gabriel was too busy to deal with her, she had not laid eyes on him in days. Weeks probably. The only
familiar eyes she had seen were the werewolves that came around daily. Most of them ignored her, they did their thing
and left her to rot.
She was treated fairly, which was surprising to see. Gabriel’s wolves weren’t savages and they didn’t hold a grudge like
they should have. Draco popped in once in a while to check on them. Her and Lyle.

She didn’t know where Lyle was, but she was sort of glad to be rid of the man. He was apparently in worse shape than
she was so he was in and out of the clinic.

Draco had popped in again. For some reason he avoided conversing with her, but this time he looked extremely worried.
His face was pinched and he had a worried expression on his face. He was constantly making calls.

And with nothing to do, Vara spared the remnants of her strength to listen in on his conversations.
And so she heard it.

Sabine. Again. It seemed even without her by her master’s side Sabine was perfectly able of inflicting damage. She was
still in possession of Lori’s son from the conversation and now she had fled her hiding spot in New York.
Vara wondered where she would go. That was her last good spot. A few remained but she doubted that they were as
safe, Gabriel would have eyes on all of them already.
Draco sounded frustrated and angry, an opportunity presented itself.
If there was one thing she could help with, it was with finding Sabine. Vara had been her beta for years and she knew her
better than anyone.
She would be able to find her, if given the chance to. Maybe this could guarantee her escape, maybe she could plead for
escape in exchange for finding her Alpha.
Of course she would have to make a very convincing case, but she was sure Lori would be desperate enough to accept
the offer. And Lori in turn would try and convince Gabriel.
That, was enough for her.
She would talk to Draco about it first.
As soon as Draco ended the call, Vara started rattling in her cell. The noise caused Draco to come down the stairs, he had
a sour look on her face as he saw that it was coming from her.

She croaked.
“I happened to be listening in on your conversation.”
Draco was silent. Unmoving, waiting for the ball to drop.

“I think I may be of help.”
Draco raised an eyebrow.
“What help?!”
“You refused to give us any useful information about Sabine.”
Vara shrugged.
“That was then… I want to help now.”
“Okay. Then help.”
Vara shook her head.
“Let’s strike a deal.”
Draco chuckled, he started to turn back.
“You won’t find her without me.”
She murmured and Draco raised an eyebrow.
“I think you overestimate your importance.”
Vara gritted her teeth.
“Do you want my help or not?”
“What do you want in exchange. Let me guess, your freedom?!”
He mocked and she nodded.

She tried to stand up, but her bones were tired and wobbly. Her knees gave out and she fell on the concrete.
She pushed herself up.

“I resigned to my fate before… I even wanted to die. I thought I deserved this for what I did… but I have a chance to
redeem myself… right a few of my wrongs.”

“And did you really think I’d let you lose? Even if it’s because you have to find Sabine?!”
Vara shrugged.
“You can work out how all of that would work. I just want to leave this cell and be sure I’d never come back to it. And in
exchange I’d help you find Sabine.”
Draco was quiet for a while before he smiled.
“Tempting offer. But I think I’ll pass.”
He said as he started walking up the stairs. The he paused.
“You’re only alive, because my alpha believes you might still be of use. Not because he particularly wants you alive. I can
easily convince him to kill you… or find a more horrific punishment than enjoying your solitude in the cell where you are
provided with your most basic amenities.”
“Don’t push your luck Vara.”
********************
The first thing that hit her was the stuffiness in the building, but Gabriel didn’t seem to mind as he forged a path in the
crowded stairs. With so many people around, he had to concentrate twice as hard so he wouldn’t lose the witch’s scent
among the throes of people. Lori didn’t interrupt him, she just silently followed.

After a while they reached the third floor and he halted, he walked down the hallway and pointed to the last room on the
floor.
Stay quiet. She is inside.
He warned as he stopped in front of the door.
Lori nodded as she braced herself, knowing it would only take a matter of seconds before Gabriel forced his way in.
Gabriel gave the door a shove and it opened effortlessly. Lori walked behind him.
“Who are you?!”
A woman screamed as she stood up, her arms in the air, there was something in her left hand, it looked like leaves but it
could be a weapon.
Lori stood in front of Gabriel, blocking him from her. Her twisted magic wouldn’t easily work on her, but Gabriel, it might.
“We’re just here to ask some questions.”
Lori said as she looked around.
Stuffy apartment, old furniture and the floor covered with dust, a few books and burning sage. Yea definitely a witch.
It’s her. The scent matches.
Gabriel said in her mind and Lori nodded.
Perfect.
She thought.
“Who are you?!”
The witch barked again as she pulled out a knife.
“Stay away.”
Lori ignored her warnings and inched closer, until the witch was backed against the wall, she raised her knife against Lori
and Lori knocked it easily away from her.
Defenseless, the witch looked on with fear in her light colored eyes.

Lori held her by the throat, pinning her against the wall.
“Where’s my son.”
“Who… who are you?!”
“Sabine Reinhardt? Does that name ring a bell?”
She asked and the witch paled.
It was evident in her features that she did know Sabine.
Lori squeezed her neck even more. The witch was not talking.
Lori.
Gabriel called out in warning but it was too late. The anger had consumed her, her features slowly changed and she was
transformed to her full form.
She could feel her wings tearing through the fabric of her jacket, she had not prepared to transform, but her emotions
had caused her transformation to happen.
She ignored it, but now she saw the witch was looking at her differently, a mixture of fear and recognition.
“You are her…”
The witch choked and Lori tilted her head in confusion.
Gabriel stepped in, slowly removing Lori’s hand from her neck.
“Let her talk…”

“Fine. Talk.”

Lori groaned as she stepped back.
Her wings felt heavy and cumbersome in the tiny space, so she quickly transformed back.
“You are the boy’s mother.”
“Jack?”
Lori asked and Siobhan nodded.
“The boy with Sabine. The one she asked me to test.”
“Test?!”
Gabriel and Lori exchanged looks.

Lori pressed and the witch shrugged.
“She wanted to know more about his blood. If it could heal.”
Lori looked at the witch in horror.
