Let The Alpha Fall 104

Let The Alpha Fall 104

Ione Verstrynge had stared at the contents of the letter ever since it arrived. The words were even starting to replay in her
head. Alongside with a past she had fought hard to forget.
She had sent for Graham, her right hand man, confused and angry, he was the only one she could trust in her state and
the only one she had entrusted the information with the minute she got the letter.
If it was true she had a grandson, then her daughter must be alive and in danger. She had lost her for years. Years of
running and running had made her paranoid she she had run without looking back. The only problem was that she had
left her daughter behind. With no time to look back. For the first few years she visited at least twice. She found out the
orphanage had named her Loretta. And that she was a spitting image of her father.
That had hurt more deeply than anything and so she had left again. The last time she went back, she didn’t find her, too
bad, she had wanted to at least see her one more time.
She knew it was a possibility that she was adopted, but she had tried searching for her for a full year after that and failed
at finding her.
She had hastily concluded and accepted the fact that her daughter might be dead. And lived with the fact for at least
eighteen more years. She had moved around like she used to, never really staying long in a place. Being as elusive as she
could be. Avoiding Lori’s father.
It had been years and he had not found her, but he had eternal life, what was a few decades of him searching for her in
his vast life mean?
Absolutely nothing. The only comfort Ione held was that he lived without knowing he had a daughter. And if he
somehow found out, he probably didn’t care enough to find her.
Ione only hoped Loretta had been blessed with better parents and a better childhood. Better than what she or her father would have offered her.
She could hear Graham’s footsteps in the courtyard before he appeared. She took a sniff in the air. Horses and saltwater. He had been out riding by the sea again then.
Graham had many worldly pleasures.
“You called mistress?!”
Ione nodded.
“Yes. Have you had time to do research on the contents of the letter?!”
She asked and he nodded.
“The sender, is a verifiable source. Astra as it seems, is also nephilim and she had come in contact with your daughter.”
Ione nodded. A part of her was relieved that it was true.
She ushered Graham to the nearest seat, his bald head shone in the sunlight as he sat directly in front of the window.
“Any information on her?! Or the woman who now holds my supposed grandson captive?!”
Graham nodded.
“Astra was ready to talk, in exchange for protection, she was very scared, so I reassured her. She gave us ample
knowledge about your daughter and the woman who now holds him captive.”
Ione leaned in.
“Tell me of my daughter first.”
Graham smiled tightly as he brought out his phone.
He pulled up the very few images he had managed to find of Lori. A lot of them from her teen years when she was still in
high school.
“These were the only pictures we could find. Nothing recent but her description perfectly matches what the messenger
described.”
Ione gasped when she looked at the pictures. Loretta may have looked like her father growing up, but it was her mother
she favored now.
Long straight black hair with large hazel eyes, a slim and small composure, just like her mothers, her skin the same hue as
hers. Every inch of her looked like a younger Ione.
“A splitting image.”
Ione murmured.
“Of you mistress.”
“Where is she now?!”
Graham sighed.
“It appears she’s mated to a werewolf now. And they live together.”
Ione raised an eyebrow.
“A werewolf?!”
Graham nodded.
Ione wondered what the dominant gene in a werewolf- nephilim pairing would be. She was fairly confident that it would
be a struggle. Werewolf and nephilim genes were pretty aggressive.
“Yes.”
“And this woman that hold her son? Another werewolf?!”
Graham nodded as his face twisted in disgust.
“So what do you want to do?!”
Ione sighed. She knew what she must do, but it was not an easy choice. Nor was it an easy decision. Trying to confirm if
the story was hundred percent true would take more time. She needed to get her the boy out, grandson or not, he was
nephilim and her kind had fought against being sold and used as blood slaves for years.
She had spent a good portion of her youth freeing nephilim in such conditions and most times she didn’t even know
them.
This time it didn’t matter if there were personal ties. She would save the boy, then find out if he was truly what they say
he was.
And give him back to his mother.
Her daughter.
She turned to Graham.
“We’re going back to America. Go get ready.”
Graham nodded eagerly, there was a wide smile on his face.
“Call all of our contacts in advance, let them know we’re coming.”
**************
They were trapping Sabine like a bird in a cage. Soon, she would be forced to give up Jack, Lori knew it. Or lose
everything else.
The last few days had been planned with planning, scheming and executing said plans. It was easy to find her werewolves. Without their alpha to guide them many of them became delinquents. The ones who didn’t had the good
sense to hide. They had quite a number of them.
Lori felt mild pity for them but that was all, they would be released as soon as Sabine did her bidding.
Sabine had called more times after the first time. With empty threats and loud arguments. Clearly what they were doing
was getting to her, but for some reason she still held out.
Gabriel tried to have her call traced many times but it seemed she was operating with burner phones, most of the time
the locations that came up were inaccurate with no one or nothing there.
Lori knew they were close. She could feel it in her bones. Something told her they were close to nailing her and she
couldn’t wait.
She turned to Gabriel who was fixated on his laptop. He had been busy the last few days. She could see the lines on his
face formed by how hard he was concentrating.
The Luna rites grew closer and she had one more thing to be nervous about. Although Gabriel had reassured her that she
could back out at anytime, she didn’t want to. Besides he had talked her through everything that was going to happen
during the rites and his grandfather on the other have had been polite all along. If he had any more protests and
arguments, he didn’t voice them out anymore.
Lori removed the crumpled envelope from her pocket and placed it on the table.
Gabriel glanced once. Then again when he realized what it was. His eyes widened as he turned to Lori.
“Where did you get that?”
“Why did you hide it from me?”
She retorted and he shrugged.
“It was irrelevant. I didn’t want to bother you with it.”
“It’s a chance to take out Sabine.”
Gabriel looked at her incredulously.
“If you think Axel would do something like that out of the goodness of his heart then I’m afraid you have much to learn
about the werewolf world.”
“We don’t know his terms yet. What if we can offer him what he wants?”
She asked and Gabriel sighed.
“That’s one path not worth pursuing. Trust me.”
Lori raised her eyebrow.
“Why? Why do you dismiss it so quickly?”
“Lori, I know you are desperate, but trust me, you do not want Axel Walker helping you. Best to leave him be.”
Lori stared at Gabriel for a while before relenting.
“Perhaps you’re right…”
She murmured.
Gabriel nodded.
“Axel… whatever his reasons are.. they’re for his own personal gains. And that never ends well.”
“But why is he interested in the first place?”
She asked and Gabriel stared at Lori blankly.
“Isn’t it obvious?! He’s interested in you.”
“Me?!”
Lori exclaimed, musky appalled.
Gabriel nodded.
“I’ve seen that man at Summits and events many times. Trust me we barely say a word to each other. Now he sees you on my arm and suddenly gets very interested in you.”
Lori nodded.
“Sounds fishy indeed…”
“It is
