It all went by in a blur, but every punch, she remembered. For herself, for Gabriel, for her son and most especially, for
Elliot, who didn’t make it. How could she let her go, how could she let her live after all the pain and harm she caused
her?!
No, she would not.
She didn’t plan on letting her walk free. no, she didn’t plan on letting her stay alive.
She vaguely remembered punching Sabine, then she saw someone pulling her up. The hands around her arms pulling her
away with superhuman strength. She fought against it but it was futile, the hands were much stronger than hers.
“Loretta. Loretta!!!”
The voice called out.
Lori snatched her hands away from her mother.
“Don’t call me that.”
She murmured as she tried crawling back to Sabine. Her face was bloodied and battered beyond recognition, she was
barely breathing but Lori knew that the bitch was still alive.
She was like a cockroach. She wouldn’t die so easily.
“Trust me you do not want to do this!”
Her mother snapped at her.
Lori looked around.
One of the nephilim guards was in front of Sabine, he was trying to lift her up.
“You don’t know what she has done… The people she has hurt.”
“You don’t want that kind of blood on your hands.”
Her mother said soberly.
Lori shook her head.
“I’ve killed before…”
Her mother masked her surprise, her expression becoming soft.
Accidentally, yes she had. And she wouldn’t even lie the memories of it were still a little hazy in her mind. She could
barely remember. But yes, she had killed before.
Her mother sighed.
She looked at Sabine and shook her head.
“Death would be too easy of a punishment for her.”
“And killing her, no, it won’t give you peace.”
She added.
Lori stayed quiet, her mind stubbornly set on what she intended on doing.
“Go and get your son.”
She murmured as she pointed to the corner, where the lady that held her son was trembling slightly.
Lori stood up on her two feet and walked towards the lady. She looked at her hands, they were bloody, she wiped as
much blood as she could on her shirt, trying to make them clean enough to hold him.
She was afraid of tainting his clothes with blood.
The lady handed her her son. And for the first time ever, Lori held her son.
She sobbed, tears blurring her vision.
He was so tiny.
“Hi.”
She quietly murmured.
That was when she noticed that he didn’t even stir. She touched his cheek, shaking him slightly.
“What’s wrong with him?”
She asked as she placed a finger under his nose.
His breathing was low, barely there.
What the fuck?
She thought as she stared at the lady for answers.
“What’s wrong with him?!”
She asked again and the lady started trembling.
“I don’t know.”
She muttered. Ione rushed over, leaving the unconscious Sabine with the guard.
“Let me see.”
Lori handed her the baby with trembling hands.
“He’s barely breathing.”
Ione examined the baby, then found a bandage on his arm.
Lori grabbed the lady by the throat.
“What did you do?!”
She asked and tears started streaming from her face. She struggled to talk so Lori released the hold she had on her neck,
giving her space to talk.
“I didn’t do anything. The Doctor took blood from him, that’s all.”
“How much blood?”
Ione asked and the lady shrugged again.
“I don’t know, but I tried to warn them that it was too much but they ignored me.”
Oh god.
Lori thought as she suddenly felt dizzy.
Would she ever be free?!
When will all this end.
Lori turned to Ione, her mother, her arms outstretched.
“Give him to me. Give me my son.”
Halfway towards her mother, a sharp pain jabbed at her chest, Lori wondered what was going on.
Lori keeled over as she held her chest.
What was that?
It felt like she had been stabbed, quite literally, but she touched her chest and felt nothing. Then, hit her like a bunch of
bricks.
Gabriel.
She rushed to her feet, running out of the room and almost tripping over the furniture.
Her mother called after her but she didn’t listen, her ears were ringing loudly, like static.
Down the spiral staircase there were two bodies on the floor. Gabriel’s and Axel’s. Her heart sank. They were both
bloodied, but she could see the knife sticking out of Gabriel’s chest. Her face paled.
No, not this time.
Not again.
She would get there in time this time.
As she rushed to his side, she held her breath as she lifted his head on to her lap.
He was still breathing, but faintly.
She bit hard into her wrist, tasting her own blood in her mouth as she shoved her wrist down his mouth. She could feel
her blood pouring down from her wrists and she hoped that she wasn’t to late.
She prayed fervently, to God, to any other gods that was listening.
No, they couldn’t take him away, the shouldn’t.
She tried to stay calm but her hands were trembling badly, she was hoping and praying that he would take it, that he would gulp.
And he did.
Lori started crying in relief as Gabriel gulped down her blood.
Slowly, he started to move his arms and legs. During this time, the other nephilim guards came back inside the house and
they rushed to help her, slowly lifting Gabriel to sit upright.
One of the examined the knife sticking out of his chest and shook his head.
Gabriel’s eyes slowly opened.
Lori stroked his hair in relief.
“Stay still.”
The nephilim said as he held on to the knife.
Slowly, he painstakingly pulled it out while Gabriel stifled a growl.
After pulling the knife out, he ripped what was left of Gabriel’s chest to check the wound and found out that it had
started healing.
“Thank you.”
Lori mouthed and he nodded.
He gave them some privacy.
Gabriel finally mustered enough strength to speak, all the cuts and bruises on his face was healing slowly.
“Our son?”
Lori nodded, tears blurring her vision, it was the first time Gabriel had referred to Jack as their son. She blinked back
tears.
“He’s fine. He’s upstairs. He’s with Ione.”
“You should be with him…”
Gabriel murmured.
“Not me.”
“I thought I was going to lose you.”
Gabriel shook his head.
“I would never. I would never leave you.”
He muttered.
“Thank God you didn’t.”
She murmured.
“Can I see him?”
“Jack?”
Lori asked and Gabriel nodded.
“Yes, Jack.”
She didn’t want to leave him at that moment, he was still weak and still slowly healing. The knife was silver, he could have
died. In fact, he should have died.
Luckily, Ione started coming down the stairs with Jack in her arms.
“How is he?”
Lori asked nervously and her mother shook her head.
“Still the same.”
“Can I give him my blood? Will it work?”
Ione glanced at the guards who shook their heads.
“We don’t know. If a blood transfusion will save him, then I’m afraid it cannot be your blood.”
Lori’s face dropped as her mother explained that even though she was his mother, her blood was still unsuitable for the
baby.
“What do we do now?”
Lori asked and her mother shrugged.
“I’ll call Lael. She’ll know what to do.”
“Here.”
Ione said as she handed the baby back to her. Her heart broke seeing how weak he looked. His skin was already turning
pale. Lori prayed that he made it.
“He had been through so much already.”
Gabriel stood up, walking to Lori’s side.
She held the baby to her chest and he came closer to look.
It was the first time he was seeing Jack. First time meeting Lori’s son.
“He sort of looks like you.”
He murmured, trying to lighten the mood.
Lori smiled.
“I’m glad he does.”
Lori looked up at him, her eyebrows furrowed in concern as she saw him on his feet.
“You should sit down. Rest.”
Gabriel shook his head.
“You need it more. Here, let me help you hold him, I’ll keep him warm.”
Lori nodded as she handed the baby to him.
Her mother had gone to the hallway to make a phone call, Lori led Gabriel to the sofa in the living room to sit. He was
still recovering.
“Maybe we can take him to the hospital. Will that work?”
Lori asked.
Graham, who had been away for most of the fight shook his head.
“Their methods wouldn’t work. No point in wasting time.”
Her mother finally reappeared. She looked like she had good news. Lori was relieved.
“There’s someone who can help us. He’s a nephilim doctor.
“She has sent us his address, if we leave now, we can get there before daybreak.”
“And Sabine?! What about her?”
Lori asked and her mother shook her head.
“I’m still not letting you kill her. We can deal with her later.”
Lori wanted to protest, but she decided that Ione was right, they had other bigger issues to deal with.
************************
*******FIVE DAYS LATER**********
Jack was slowly getting better. His condition was quite critical but now he was much more better and they had let Gabriel
and Lori take him home.
The first night with the two babies had been hard, they barely got any sleep because Jack didn’t sleep through the night
and he kept waking Emilia up.
Ione, her mother had left, right after she found out that Jack was going to be fine.Lori didn’t really get a chance to speak
with her with everything that was going on with Jack. They still had unfinished business.
Ione had taken Sabine with her, with a special kind of punishment in mind.
The nephilim Order had underground dungeons called nightmare caves, a very discreet and secret prison where people were forgotten in, it was created by the strongest of witches, it was said to be specifically designed to drive the prisoner
mad. Every night they would relive their most traumatic experiences. Many didn’t last a week in there.
If Sabine ever came out, or found a way out her mind would be broken beyond repair. That was how bad it was. Her
mother had only suggested it to take Sabine off her hands.
Axel, well Axel was dead, after he had plunged the knife in Gabriel, Gabriel had managed to smash his head against the wall with the last of the strength he could muster.
They had both fallen to the floor. With Axel dying.
With all evidence of Gabriel or Lori being there cleaned up and no wolves around as witnesses, the Invito and the other
alphas had simply assumed that Axel had messed with the wrong crowd. Besides, it wasn’t unusual for
Alphas to die mysteriously.
With Jack back, Gabriel had suggested they move back into the mansion, since they would need the bigger space and
the help of the whole staff. Lori agreed. It was safer now, they could afford to move back with no underlying threat.
She had felt more peace in the past three days than she had felt few weeks ago.
Everything was going well, she was happy.
She had her mate, the love of her life, she had her son and then she had her daughter, whom she didn’t birth but loved
like a daughter, Emilia. She had all of them with her and she had never felt more at peace or more loved.
She finally had a family and it all started with her being a nanny.
note: This can be considered as the final chapter. But there will be an epilogue and bonus chapters later.
