ou slapped Kate. At Eliot’s Funeral.”
Those were the first words he said to Lori as he walked into Emilia’s room where Lori was changing the baby’s diaper.
He had been in a heated conversation with his family when commotion had broken out. Kate screaming, people running
towards her, blood streaming down the side of her face, Lori storming off. He was shocked to hear Lori was the one who
hit her. That wasn’t Lori. That wasn’t something she would do.
He rushed after Lori, leaving everybody else there and met her standing by the car, arms folded and face stoic. She didn’t
look the least bit remorseful.
He had decided then that she had to go home. Maybe the funeral and everything was too much for her. His family
already didn’t like her, he didn’t want to make everything much worse.
He put her in the car and made Draco escort her back home.
Back at the gathering he tried to placate Kate who half of her face was covered In blood. It looked like Lori’s claws had
done the damage. The blood wouldn’t stop gushing and the wound wasn’t healing like normal wounds did.
It was all so confusing.
He came back home briefly to ask Lori what the hell happened since she wasn’t picking his call.
“She called me trash.”
Lori simply said as she changed Emilia’s diaper. She didn’t even raise her head. She was angry at him.
Yes, she knew she was in the wrong, she probably should have managed her anger better but he just left her there.
He just left her and made her go home while he went to comfort that two faced woman.
“And you couldn’t hold it in?!”
“I couldn’t help it… I can’t help myself Gabriel.”
She confessed, her eyes avoiding his. He was disappointed in her, that much she knew, she could feel his disappointment.
She shouldn’t have hit Kate. It was the wrong place. And the wrong time.
“You need to learn better ways to control your anger Lori.”
“My family already don’t even like you.”
“What you did… you just made everything worse.”
Lori sighed. She took Emilia from the changing table and walked towards the windows, her back turned against her mate.
“Do you know that they want Kate to be my Luna?”
Gabriel asked.
Lori was mute.
“Do you know you just gave them another thing to use against you.”
“I’m sorry Gabriel.”
That was all she said. It was all she could muster, even though she wasn’t feeling sorry. No, Kate deserved what happened
to her.
“Sorry wouldn’t cut it Lori. You’ve blown the last chance you had with them.”
Lori resisted the urge to roll her eyes. She was tired and frustrated, she didn’t need the lecture. But she held her tongue
just to prevent a full blown argument.
“And Kate… well the scar will remain and I can imagine her father would be fucking pissed when he finds out.”
“Why would you even attack Kate in the first place?!”
“Why not?! She’s been on my ass for weeks now!”
Lori finally snapped. She turned to Gabriel and narrowed her eyes at him, letting him know that she was pissed at him.
She didn’t expect him to take her side but she didn’t want him to take Kate’s side either.
“Kate likes you…. am I missing something here?!”
Lori scoffed.
“Like me?!”
“She told me to reject you. She was the first person to tell me I wasn’t good enough for you.”
Gabriel was stunned.
“She said that?!”
He exclaimed.
Lori nodded.
“She did. That time we had brunch.”
She walked towards the rocking chair and settled in it, placing the baby on her chest.
Gabriel looked conflicted.
“Still. You have to apologize to her. And maybe give her a little out of your blood… she hasn’t been able to stop the
bleeding…”
Lori nodded.
“I can’t apologize… but I will give her my blood to heal.”
Gabriel sighed.
“Fair enough. I’ll take that.”
He said as he left the room.
A few minutes later he came back with a guard. The man wore gloves and he had a needle and syringe with him.
“This won’t take long.”
He reassured Lori as she stretched her arm. She frowned but looked away while the needle pierced her skin.
He was done in a matter of seconds and he looked at the blood in his syringe and chuckled.
“Liquid gold.”
He commented halfheartedly.
Lori watched as he put the blood in a small vial, Gabriel came back inside a moment later and took the vial.
“I’ll be right back.”
He said and she nodded.
A part of her wished that her blood wouldn’t work and Kate would have the scars forever as a reminder of her stupidity.
But she quickly dismissed the thought.
Why was she getting so angry these days?!
She wondered as she shook her head.
The guard was taking off his gloves next to her.
“You look troubled.”
He said and Lori sighed.
“I can’t seem to control myself these days…”
The guard was a lot older than her, at least from how he looked. Tall, curly black hair and a fairly larger build than Draco.
He also looked new. She hadn’t seen him before and she was well acquainted with most of the guards that patrolled the
penthouse.
“Your powers are restless.”
The man said and Lori looked at him, he had piqued her interest.
“Restless?”
“Yes… normally you’d need some form of release to maintain at least some sort of control on them…”
“What would you recommend?”
She asked and the man shrugged.
“Same as every other supernatural…”
“… You train. You exercise. You get stronger.”
Train?!
How come she had never thought of that.
Would Gabriel even allow her to train?
Would she even have the time?
“And you think that would work?”
The man shrugged.
“Of course it would. It would also make you stronger.”
He was right. She knew nothing about her true self. Astra wouldn’t help her. There was no other nephilim to help her.
She might as well help herself.
“Thank you.”
**************
“Here.”
Gabriel said as he dropped the vial of blood on the table.
Kate looked up at him, her eyes were wet with tears. She was surrounded by three men. At least two of them Gabriel
recognized to be her father’s men and one of them was a doctor.
“Leave us.”
Kate ordered all of them and they left the two of them in the room alone. She was still wearing the same clothes from the
funeral. Just like he was. Half of her face was covered in bandages.
“Lori apologizes. She was overwhelmed with anger…”
Gabriel lied and Kate shook her head.
“I still don’t understand… I thought we were friends.”
A lie.
That was a lie. He could hear her heartbeat loud and clear. Kate was lying to him. She had provoked Lori, why she did it
he would never fully understand.
When she learned of them being mates she sounded happy for them and when Lori had gone missing she offered her
assistance and her father’s.
“What exactly happened?”
He asked and she shook her head.
“No point talking about it. The deed is done.”
She replied dismissively.
Her hand reached for the vial of blood and Gabriel picked it up.
Faster than her. Then he took it away from her grasp.
“I would like to know.”
He insisted.
Kate shrugged.
“Nothing happened. She wanted to know what you were talking to your family about and I told her. Then I merely
advised her that it would be wise for her to do what she knew was right for your pack.”
“I see..”
Gabriel mused.
“And was it your place to tell her any of this?”
“Gabriel…”
Gabriel narrowed his eyes at her, his voice dropped low. Low enough for only her to hear.
“Kate… I hope you don’t think I’m stupid…”
Kate stared at him, wide eyed and dumbstruck, perhaps she had gone too far… but given the circumstances she didn’t
expect Gabriel to take Lori’s side.
Perhaps she underestimated how much the mating bond could affect Gabriel’s sense of judgment.
“You provoked her, knowing fully well what she was and how she was just coming to terms with her powers. Now why
you did that… I really can’t tell but I can tell you that you’d be foolish to want me as your enemy.”
Kate straightened in her seat.
“I didn’t provoke her. Gods know that I didn’t.”
“And you wouldn’t want me as your enemy either! I don’t know if you’ve forgotten so soon but my father’s an alpha too
so don’t threaten me.”
She added nervously. Gabriel smirked, sensing her fear.
“It’s merely a subtle warning Kate. We were once friends… I’d hate to have to hurt you or your father.”
He threw the vial of blood on the table, Kate scrambled to pick it up as it rolled to the ground.
“You’re sure this would be enough?”
She asked as she opened it quickly.
Gabriel shrugged.
“I don’t know. I don’t even know if it would work.”
Kate drank all the blood in one gulp.
“It has to .”
She muttered as she threw the empty vial away.
Gabriel watched her carefully, feeling a tinge of pity for her, for how she had changed.
“How did you know Lori was nephilim?”
He asked out of the blues and Kate shrugged.
“It slipped. Draco accidentally mentioned it.”
“I’m assuming you’re the one who told my grandfather.”
Kate shrugged.
“Why would I do that?”
“I don’t know. I’m finding it hard to decipher what your motive is in all this.”
Kate scoffed, her hand touching the bandage gently.
“Worry less about me and more about you.”
“The alphas are coming for you Gabriel.”
Gabriel raised an eyebrow, he looked slightly amused.
“I don’t see any reason why they would… besides.. it’s just a summit.”
“You think you making Lori your Luna means nothing to them? They see it as a political move.”
Gabriel raised an eyebrow at Kate. He didn’t quite understand what she was getting at.
The alpha’s summit was just some dull and dreary summit where they mostly handled general werewolf business. Every werewolf alpha was present.
Why would they gather against him? He wouldn’t be the first or last to make a non werewolf his Luna.
“I’m convinced you’re making up words at this point.”
He sighed and Kate shook her head.
“I’m not lying! Few of them are scared. Someone’s been sharing their silly ideas that you aligning with Lori means you’re
aligning with the nephilim as some sort of political strategy to upend other packs. I heard my father talking about it… it’s
just a rumor now but imagine how worse it’ll be when you make her your Luna.”
“Kate… you’re telling me baseless rumors and you expect me to take them seriously… I think you need some rest.”
Kate sighed.
Gabriel turned around to leave.
“Fine. But don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
“Don’t make that woman your Luna.”
Gabriel paused at the door and contemplated giving her a reply… he left without a word.
The doctor walked back in shortly after.
“Remove the bandage.”
She ordered and the man looked at her in mild shock.
“I just put them on…”
“Remove it!”
She demanded and the man slowly started to remove the bandage. When it was finally off he gasped.
“Mother of God!!! It’s as if nothing ever happened!!”
He exclaimed.
Kate touched her face. It felt smooth to touch. She picked up her phone and switched on her camera. She pointed it to
her face.
Nothing.
Nothing but dried blood. She released a breath in relief. Gods she had been scared to death thinking it was going to scar.
Thank god it didn’t.
She would have killed Lori herself if it did.
