“What do you make of all this?”
Gabriel asked Draco as he took a swig out of his whisky. He rarely drank, but during times like these… he couldn’t help
it.They were standing in front of Vara’s cell. She was on the floor, crouched low, her head in her hands, she had not
spoken a word to them in days.
Three days in isolation had not broken her will. She still wasn’t budging.
Draco shuddered. Gabriel was overwhelmed, he could feel it and see it written all over his face. He was back from Kate
and it seemed she even had more annoying news to give him.
“I have my ears to the wall… I’m trying to get you as much information as I can.”
He said but Gabriel shook his head.
“That’s not what I asked.”
“I don’t know what to think Gabriel. Your family says she’s too weak to be your Luna, but the alphas somehow see her as
a threat?!”
“It doesn’t make any sense to me.”
Draco added.
“Who fucking told them about her in the first place?”
He asked and Gabriel pointed to Vara.
“I think it’s safe to say Sabine hasn’t been quiet after all. Wherever she is she seems to be perfectly strong enough to
spread her lies and deceit.”
Vara didn’t even flinch at the mention of her alpha’s name.
Draco turned to Gabriel.
“You think she has a hand in this?”
Gabriel nodded.
“Who else?!”
“My family knows what Lori is. But they’re not stupid enough to share that to others.”
“Sabine knows. And she’s probably butthurt that I took her beta.”
“Still. We can’t conclude now. Kate might be saying nonsense. I don’t know why she got that way… but I’ll keep you
posted on what I hear.”
Gabriel nodded.
“What do we do about Lyle?”
Draco asked.
Gabriel sighed.
“His mother wants him released.”
“And will you release him? After all that he’s done?!”
“I don’t want to…”
“So what will you do?”
“I don’t know yet.”
“But I can’t forgive him. Not after what he has done. Not after Elliot.”
********************
“You want to train?”
Gabriel asked again and Lori nodded.
“Yes. I can’t keep relying on you to be there all the time. I need to do something.”
She passed him a cup of coffee. He was leaving for work and she had made him breakfast.
Lori had told him about training and he had been surprised that she brought it up. It was a good idea but Lori training wasn’t something he had ever imagined.
Besides he was skeptical about it. He wanted her safe and at home where he was confident that his men would protect
her but training sounded much better.
“You’re right…”
“So you wouldn’t mind?”
She asked and Gabriel chuckled.
“I wouldn’t. If training is what you want then that’s exactly what you’d get.”
“I have to warn you though… Draco’s a bit too rough to train you and I’m afraid I’d be too busy to train you myself but I
think I know the perfect person for you.”
“Really?”
Gabriel nodded.
“Yes. You’d love her. I’d tell her to come pick you up later today.”
Gabriel remembered Emilia.
“What about the baby though?”
She asked and Gabriel shrugged.
“If it isn’t too much to ask we can tell Grace to come watch her.”
“Thank you.”
Lori nodded as she hugged him from the back. She smothered his cheeks with kisses.
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
He turned and gave her a kiss.
After breakfast he said goodbye to Emilia and kissed Lori one more time before leaving.
******************
Myra Blackwell arrived shortly after Grace arrived to take care of Emilia. Lori was already dressed and waiting. She had
picked her comfiest clothes. Leggings, tank top and running shoes.
Myra was part of Gabriel’s intelligence team. That was all Gabriel had told her. But she used to be a guard too and she
was damn well very good at her job. She trained young werewolves and did it a few times in a year. She rarely trained
anyone unless Gabriel asked her to.
She had a warm smile on her face the moment they met and Lori was convinced she would like her.
She was tall, a tall woman. With long lithe limbs and short curly ginger hair. Her skin was a deep dark brown that
reminded her of the guard who took her blood. She had also come in comfortable clothes. Long tight leggings and a
tracksuit top.
She was a whole foot taller than Lori.
But as they spent more time together on their way underground Lori grew to like her.
“You might be surprised… but I have met a few nephilim before?”
“Really?!”
Lori asked and Myra nodded.
“I was on a trip to New Mexico. I was still a field agent then but it was work related. I got s nasty injury and I thought I
was going to die. I woke up a few hours later in the back of a truck with two men with wings staring at me. They had
saved me with their blood.”
“Wow. How did they look like?”
Myra shook her head.
“Magnificent… they never told me their names, but I stayed with them for at least two nights while I regained my
strength. They dropped me back where they picked me up.”
“During that time is as just grateful enough to be alive. So I didn’t think much about them then.”
“My kind seems to be very solitary.”
Lori mused.
“I also met a nephilim recently but she fled because of me.”
Myra placed a hand on Lori’s shoulder, not missing her sour expression.
“Your kind has been haunted for years. I don’t blame them for being paranoid.”
“You’re probably right. Who knows if I’m being hunted right now?”
Myra shook her head.
“Nobody would be stupid enough to do that.”
She answered.
“You’re Gabriel’s mate. That sends a clear message. If they want you they’d have to go through him.”
It was then Lori realized the beauty of a pack. Werewolves were organized, they had structure, a hierarchy that every wolf
respected. She didn’t see that often.
Maybe if her own kind was like that they would have been able to survive opposition.
They reached the training ground moments later. Large, underground, Lori had been there a few times. The wolves
stopped to watch her. Many of them already knew who she was. And apart from the guards, majority of them liked to
keep their distance. Now with Gabriel not around, they were all openly staring at her.
Myra scolded some of them for staring, but it only made the rest look at her harder. Lori was relieved when Myra told her
they would be training in a more secluded room. At least she would be able to avoid their watchful eyes.
They entered a smaller room, but still equally large. The room was empty, except for a few equipments here and there. Myra dropped her gym bag on the rubber floor. Lori did the same.
“Did you notice what I did earlier?”
“What?”
Lori asked and Myra smiled.
“We took the stairs first all the way up to the twentieth floor before we came back down.”
They did. Lori wondered why she did that but didn’t ask.
“Oh yea. We did.”
“I was testing your strength. Most amateurs get tired on the fourth floor. You didn’t even budge when we were on the
twentieth floor.”
That must have been due to her powers, because Lori remembered exactly how weak she was and used to be.
“I really didn’t notice.”
Myra nodded.
“It’s okay. At least now we can conclude that super strength is definitely a power you have.”
“We won’t be doing much today… since it’s your first day but I’d like to try something.”
“What?”
“I want you to shift.”
Lori balked.
“Shift?!”
She spat out and Myra nodded.
“Gabriel told me you had wings. They’re a vital part of who you are and that’s the first thing you must master.”
“The art of shifting.”
Lori shook her head.
“All the times I’ve shifted… they weren’t on propose.”
Myra nodded.
“Oh I know. This time is has to be on purpose.”
****************
“What have you heard about me Ivor.” She asked coyly.
“Oh I’ve heard a lot… and that’s saying something… particularly your falling out with Alpha Gabriel Caine of Moon
Fang.”
Sabine raised her eyebrow. She wasn’t expecting him to know that, but somehow he did.
Ivor must have his ears planted to the ground at all times to be so up to date.
“Yes. We had a case with the Invito. Some land squabble.”
“I heard. He won.” Ivor commented and Sabine stiffened.
She relaxed after a while and shrugged.
“Oh well…you win some you lose some… but that’s not why I called you.”
“Then why did you call me?! Word on the streets is that you’ve been reaching out to as many alphas as you can… to give
them some sort of warning.”
“Then you’d understand why I’m calling you…”
She and Ivor were not particularly close, but they were cordial, in the way work colleagues were.
Ivor had a nasty temperament and he was extremely paranoid, Sabine had stayed away from him because of that reason.
Now, it was the same reason she was calling him.
“No. I don’t. My pack and Moon Fang have been peaceful allies for years.“
“Even with the threat Gabriel poses?!”
Sabine asked. Pretending to sound concerned.
“And what threat is that?”
Sabine scoffed.
“Would you rather wait to find out at the alpha’s summit or would you like to know now?”
There was a brief silence as it seemed like Ivor was mulling over his choices.
“Out with it then.”
The old man grunted.
“Very well then. I have strong reasons to believe that Gabriel and his new nephilim mate who is to become his Luna are
plotting against you and other alphas.”
There was a short silence before Ivor busted into a fit of laughter.
Sabine was stunned. She had not expected that kind of reaction.
“Are you mad Sabine?!”
He asked after a while, his voice still shaking with laughter.
Sabine shifted the phone away from her ear, mildly pissed at him.
“Ivor. You know I would not call you if it wasn’t the truth! I don’t lie and I wouldn’t be making this up for no reason.”
“Yea sureee…”
Ivor slurred and Sabine sighed.
“That woman killed at least thirty of my men. All strong able bodied werewolves! And then she tried to kill me too! And
then she and Gabriel managed to run me out of my territory!”
“Why do you think I’m in hiding now?”
There was a short silence.
“I’m only trying to warn you. If one nephilim could do that, imagine an army of them!”
“How do I know you’re speaking the truth? I haven’t even seen a goddamn nephilim in years.”
Sabine chuckled.
“Oh trust me you will soon. But if you don’t find a way to protect yourself now… I’m pretty sure Gabriel would come for
you too.”
“Together… they’re unstoppable. They’ve been chasing me ever since and I’ve been in hiding. They even managed to kill
my Beta.”
“Vara?!”
Ivor asked in mild surprise over the phone and Sabine nodded.
“Yes. Vara. I sent her on a mission to check if the coast was clear so I could come back home… but I’ve been cut off from
her ever since…”
“I have already imagined the worse.”
There was another uncomfortable silence before Ivor cleared his throat.
His voice became serious. Solemn.
“You make heavy accusations Sabine.”
He said and Sabine sighed.
“I’ve lost everything. I gain nothing from lying.”
She lied again. The lies were flowing smoothly now. Ivor was the fourth alpha she had talked to in the last few days.
Before the alphas summit she planned to have talked to at least ten of them and plant enough venom for them to do
exactly as she wanted.
She wouldn’t have to lift a finger to destroy Gabriel and Lori.
They would do all the heavy work for her.
That is, if her plan managed to work
