Training was harder than she expected.
Myra Blackwell was a thorough woman and even though she was very gentle with Lori, she made it clear that she would
not let Lori leave until she saw progress.
Shifting… shifting was a different ballgame, requiring her to tap into a part of herself that had been dormant for years.
Years and years.
But weirdly, it took an hour, an hour of encouragement and sheer will before Lori finally transformed.
She didn’t know why she thought it’d be as painful as the first time, but it was relatively painless this time. And now she
could feel more changes coming in that she had not noticed before.
Not only were her fingers transformed into claws… her toes had become something somewhat resembling talons, pale
and curved, they looked sharp to the touch, but surprisingly they looked like they were useful.
They had better grip than her hands ever would. Excellent… at least now she knew what they could be used for.
Myra studied her as she shifted, then studied her features even more.
“Your wings are sturdier than I expected them to be.”
She noted as she looked at them again.
“Can you move them?”
She asked and Lori shrugged.
“I don’t know. Can I?”
“They’re your wings. You should be able to.”
“Think of it like an extra limb. Just think about it moving and your brain will send down that impulse and do the rest.”
Lori concentrated hard enough and willed the wings to flap. They did!
It freaked her out a bit but Myra was smiling.
“Good! Good.”
“How will my wings be useful? I think they’re cumbersome when it comes to combat.”
She confessed and Myra disagreed.
“They won’t be. Besides… fighting in this form should give you some advantage. You can fly, your powers will manifest
quickly in this form. The possibilities are endless.”
“All that’s left it tapping in.”
Myra said as she threw a spear at Lori.
Lori caught it quickly. She didn’t know how but it was as if a sixth sense of hers had sensed the spear coming and acted
fast.
She grinned. Oh this was turning out to be very fun!
“Good reflexes. That’s a good thing.”
Myra noted as she studied Lori’s stance.
“But with wings like that… you’re standing wrongly…”
“Oh.”
Lori looked at her feet.
“How do I stand?”
“Wings tucked in, left leg forward and your arms poised for combat.”
Lori nodded as she followed her instructions.
“Good. I said wings tucked in because even though your wings are quite magnificent, it has weak vulnerable spots.”
Lori nodded.
“We’ll start with the basics today. Hopefully one day we might be able to move on to flying lessons.”

Denver, Approximately two weeks to the Alpha’s summit.
“Well… you were right about Sabine having a hand in this. She’s been making a few calls.”
“Besides… there’s no information on her being on any flight log… I’m not sure she left the country like we were led to
believe.”
Draco said as he dropped a file on Gabriel’s glass table. It contained the flight logs, Sabine’s property and all other
information he had been gathering on her since Lori came back.
Gabriel looked up from his monitor, his eyes a little slow. Drinking before work was a bad idea, but he had only taken
them out of courtesy for the French client he met for breakfast.
Now it was barely noon at work and he was having a hard time concentrating. He was in the process of finding another
CEO for his company.
With so many things to do and so many things happening, Gabriel just wanted more time with his family and his pack.
The company was big enough for him to release the reins to someone competent. He could always check in once in a
while, but he didn’t think he needed to.
He had some reputable people already vying for the spot, but he wanted to be very thorough with the process so it would still be a long time before he decided to interview any of them.
Draco had left the day before to find information on what Kate said like he promised. Gabriel didn’t just expect him to be
back so soon with news.
“What type of calls?”
“Spreading lies. Saying you killed her beta and took everything from her with the help of Lori.”
Gabriel scoffed.
“She cannot possibly think that they’ll believe her. Can she?!”
Draco shrugged.
“It’s a problem. One that we have to solve. I worry less about whether they’ll believe her and more about the sort of ideas
she’s putting in their heads.”
“She has no proof. Her claim is useless.”
Gabriel replied dismissively.
“Fair enough. More reason for you to attend the alpha’s summit and put her nasty rumors to rest.”
“I intend to.”
Gabriel murmured.
“With Lori.”
Draco added and Gabriel’s eyes shot toward Draco.
“With Lori?!”
He asked and Draco nodded.
“She’s your mate. Soon to be your Luna, I think it makes sense for her to go with you. If you decide not to take her
along… they might grow suspicious.”
“Take her with you. Let them see she poses no threat to them and their tiny kingdoms.”
Gabriel relaxed in his chair as he sighed, deep in thought, he pondered on Draco’s words.
“I suppose you’re right. But Lori’s been training these days and I’m slightly worried about how much control she has on
her self.”
Draco raised an eyebrow.
“What do you mean?”
“The outburst with Kate. I did a little digging and apparently it’s normal since she’s just coming into her power…”
“You said Myra is training her. I talked to Myra and she seemed very impress with her. She shifted on her first day!”
Gabriel smiled, obviously proud of his mate’s accomplishment.
“Yes. Lori was so excited she couldn’t wait till I got home before she told me. She gushed all about it to me on the
phone.”
“Then I believe you should have more faith in her Alpha.”
“That is… unless you don’t really want to take her along with you…”
Gabriel shook his head.
“No. No. You’re right. Lori should go to the Alpha’s summit. She’s to be my Luna.”
Back home, Gabriel arrived to see Lori and Emilia playing on the floor. She was still in her gym clothes, so it was obvious
that she had just gotten out of practice not long ago.
“Heyyy!”
She squealed as she waved.
Gabriel waved back at her.
“How was your day?”
“Great. I tried to talk to you… through the mind link stuff… did you get it?”
She asked and Gabriel furrowed his eyebrows.
“Not sure I did. What were you trying to tell me?”
Lori looked downcast.
“Oh nothing… just training stuff..”
“Did you make more progress?”
He asked as he set down his suit jacket and knelt on the floor, pulling her into his arms. Lori almost melted as he started
kissing her neck.
“I did.”
She said as she quickly pulled away, despite wanting him to continue.
“I have to take a shower… I’m all sweaty but I couldn’t leave Emilia alone.”
“Really? You don’t smell bad to me.”
Gabriel commented and Lori gave him a look.
“I do… I had a long day at training.”
“Tell me all about it.”
Gabriel said as he turned to Emilia and picked her from the floor, placing her on his chest. Emilia gurgled happily.
“Lori stood up as she removed her greasy hair from the bun it was in.
“Well I had to shift again… this time I didn’t take as long as I did before and Myra taught me some more basic combat moves. She even taught me how to use my claws.”
Gabriel raised his eyebrows.
“That quickly?!”
Lori nodded.
“Yes. She said I’m a very fast learner so I guess that’s why.”
“I’m going to go take a shower.”
She said as she pointed towards the bathroom and Gabriel nodded.
“Okay. I’ll be here waiting.”
“There’s some food in the fridge if you’d like to warm it up.”
She pointed towards the kitchen as she disappeared to the hallway.
Few seconds later Gabriel heard the sound of the water running and he walked to the kitchen.
The fridge was running low on supplies, but there was a casserole dish filled with chicken and a Tupperware of salad and
roasted greens. Gabriel knew there was no way Lori had made the food because she must have been busy all day.
Sometimes Grace took charge of making their meals despite him begging her not to. She claimed it didn’t take her any
time at all but he still felt bad that she did.
Lori had enough time to make breakfast on most days and he wouldn’t have minded cooking dinner if he didn’t find
dinner every-time he came back home.
But the food smelled amazing so he couldn’t even complain anymore.
Emilia was pretty content to lay on his chest while he used his free hand to put the dish in the oven to warm up for a bit.
Few minutes later Lori came out with nothing but a towel on.
She had a sly smirk on her face.
“And what are you doing with that on?”
He asked her as he raised his eyebrow and she shrugged.
“I just came to pick up something.”
She said and he sighed, his eyes dropped down to her bare legs, beads of water still hung on them. And he was suddenly
noticing how ridiculously short the towel looked, it even left most of her thighs bare.
“I would have gotten into that shower with you… if you had at least waited for me to put Emily down..”
Lori rolled her eyes as she approached the Kitchen.
“Please… we’d have done anything else but showering.”
Gabriel agreed.
“Fair.”
He answered.
He remembered the alphas summit then decided it was a good time to bring it up.
“Remember that Alpha’s summit I told you about?!”
Gabriel asked and Lori nodded.
“Yea. What about it?!”
“You’re coming with me.”
Lori paused. Coming?
Wasn’t it an exclusive program for alphas only? Why was she coming?
“As my mate and Luna.”

New York. A week and one day before the Alpha’s Summit.
The blindfold came off. Astra found herself in a small dark room. She quickly sniffed the air… well she was states away
from Texas where she was planning to go and in a much terrible situation too.
This was why she didn’t fraternize with wolves. This was why her kind had stayed hidden for years. Now looking back, she
wished she had turned Lori away the first day she met her.
Sabine Reinhardt. She knew her as well as she needed to. The woman claimed to have a trickle of nephilim ancestry in her
blood and while it was true, the despicable being in front of her was nothing more than a power hungry mutt. Just like
the rest of her kind was.
When she had been snatched up on the streets over a day ago, Astra knew who it was, she could only imagine what would come to her in the hands of such a woman.
She had been locked in a crater box for at least twelve hours, she couldn’t tell much but she assumed that she had pretty
much been shipped like cargo to New York.
Sabine stood in front of her, a woman next to her. It wasn’t hard to spot that the woman was a witch.
What they both wanted with her she didn’t know. Yet.
She was weak… tired, her energy spent from keeping herself alive as much as she could. They had bonded her arms and
legs with dark objects, knowing how much it would put a dampen on her powers. It appeared that they cared little about
her if they thought she would have survived that suffocating trip.
“Finally. You’re here.”
Sabine grinned as she looked at the witch who nodded.
She signaled to the tall hefty man standing aside, few feet away from Astra.
“Take away her chains. She’s our guest.”
Sabine purred and the man nodded.
“What? … what do you want from me?!”
Astra croaked.
Sabine was silent for a while.
Astra contemplated her choices as the chains came off. Did she have enough energy to run?
Would she make it?
Could she summon whatever little power was left?
“Everything you can offer Astra.”
“I want everything.”
