The Summit has started. Everyone, alpha, Luna or their betas who had come with them moved to the large conference
hall. Several alphas walked in twos and threes to their respective round tables, many of which had been arranged from
rank to territory and location.
Sabine watched the two main entrance eagerly and was relieved when she didn’t see Lori. Even Gabriel was missing.
Probably looking for his beloved mate.
He wouldn’t be able to do anything. She had seen the dark magic do it’s work and if Astra’s destruction was worse, she
was pretty sure what Lori would do would be way worse. After all Lori seemed to be the fully blooded nephilim. All she
had to do was sit and wait, then the commotion would commence.
Ivor was the first to approach her in the conference hall. She had found her designated seat and was eagerly waiting
when she saw the burly man walking towards her. She had almost groaned as she saw Ivor approaching her.
“I didn’t think you would make it…”
He murmured as he made his way to the empty seat that was supposed to be occupied by her mate or beta and sat on it. None of which she had. The thought of Vara sent a slight pang to her chest.
“Why would I miss it?!”
Ivor shook his head.
“If what you said about Gabriel and his mate his right, then I’d advise you to tread lightly.”
He spoke in low tones. Sure with so many alphas around, it wasn’t unusual or unheard of for them to eavesdrop.
“Sure alliances are great and all…”
He continued.
“But when confronted with the thoughts of war, even alphas with the strength and will will balk.”
Sabine glared at him.
“I didn’t ask for your advise Ivor yet here you are…”
“I didn’t know you were so concerned for me… given your distrust for me after I warned you about everything.”
Ivor scoffed.
“You made false accusations against another alpha. A crime if I remember is actually punishable. A small offense but still
a punishable one under our law.”
“I told you the truth.”
Ivor shrugged.
“Very well then…. I eagerly wait to see whether or not this truth is real.”
Sabine smiled smugly.
“You wouldn’t need to wait any longer… the truth will reveal itself soon enough.”
Ivor scoffed.
“How soon?”
“This night.”
******************
Gabriel was in the middle of a heated conversation with another alpha when Lori’s voice filled his head. He didn’t even
have time to murmur and leave an excuse. He looked towards the direction of the bathroom and saw Sabine walk out
with a smug look on her face. His fists hardened.
That was it.
He managed to compose himself enough to walk sanely to the bathroom and he didn’t mind the murmurs from the woman he met at the ladies bathroom entrance when he walked into it.
Gabriel forced open every stall till he reached the one where Lori was crouched.
“Lori!”
He breathed out as he reached out for her.
She was on her knees, her wings took up the tiny space and her claws were buried deep in the concrete, her head was
low, she looked tired. Her hair fell like a curtain all over her face, obstructing his view of her.
The moment she heard his voice she raised her head and uttered a word.
“Don’t.”
“What?!”
He asked in confusion.
“Don’t come close.”
She forced the words out and Gabriel stared at her in utter confusion.
“Why?!”
“I can’t help it if I hurt you.”
Her voice was almost pleading. But Gabriel didn’t care about that. He didn’t care if he hurt himself he just wanted to save
her.
“Bullshit.”
He said as he touched her arm.
She was simmering hot, like her skin was molting lava. Still, he touched her, hissing through the pain.
He pulled her claws from the concrete, for both hands and tried to survey the best way to carry her without her wings
getting in the way.
“Gabriel…”
Lori warned as she felt her vision go blurry. Gods she wished she had control over what was going on…
She didn’t.
“I can’t… I can’t stop it.”
“Hold it. Just for a while. I’ll take you outside.”
“No! No!”
Lori breathed.
“Leave me here!”
She pleaded.
“If I go outside I’ll hurt people. Leave me here.”
She plied his hands away from her, the effort alone took more concentration than anything she had ever concentrated
on.
It was a fight. A struggle for her body and her inner strength to not hurt him.
Or let the rage completely take over.
She had to fight it. One way. Or another.
An idea formed in her head and she stretched out her hand.
“What?!”
Gabriel asked. His face was covered in anguish, seeing her fight so hard to rein in her emotions reminded him of how he
once had to be locked up while he was turning. It was a long time ago but he still remembered how much he hated the
feeling.
“Pain. I need to feel pain….”
“I’m not hurting you Lori.”
Lori threw her head backwards. She was gritting her teeth so hard he was sure it had to hurt.
“You have to.”
Her voice broke. It sounded as if she was close to tears.
“It’s the only way.”
She murmured.
How?
Pain?
Hurting her was the last thing on his mind but Gabriel sooner realized they were running out of choices and time. With
voices of people drawing nearer and the two of them in the bathroom, people would begin to suspect where they had
gone and what was going on.
“Okay.”
He gulped hard as he unleashed his own claws.
Quick and fast, he swiped at her wrists, a sharp deep line formed as Lori hissed.
But as fast as the line came it went. She was healing rapidly. Too fast. It had barely taken a minute for it to close up.
“That won’t work. You’re healing too fast.”
He murmured and Lori sighed.
“Whatever you do. Don’t let me out of here..”
She murmured.
Gabriel nodded.
He held her arms tightly, more fearful about her hurting herself than him.
“The amulet. It did nothing?!”
Gabriel said in disgust and Lori shook her head as she clenched and unclenched her jaws.
“This is not a dark object…”
“But still…”
He trailed off.
At least two women walked into the bathroom around that moment. They both stayed silent.
Whoever it was didn’t sound like they had come to use the bathroom.
Sabine?!
Gabriel thought as he made a move to stand up.
Lori held him down, her claws digging into his shoulder, much harder than she had intended.
She didn’t even notice what she was doing until she pulled her claws away and saw blood on them.
Slowly they heard the retreating footsteps of whoever it was and Lori heaved a sigh.
Stay.
She said through the bond.
I will fight through this.
She whispered.
Gabriel nodded.
Okay.
I need you to do something for me.
She asked again.
Ask anything of me.
Gabriel answered.
I need a distraction… I need to focus on something else… somewhere else… my mind needs to be occupied.
Gabriel nodded. There was a way but he wasn’t sure they had reached that peak yet.
It could work. It had to work one way or another.
There were times mating bonds were so strong that mates could share memories. They could be so in tune with each
other that they could let each other into their heads. Not only the part where they hear each other’s thoughts, but they
part where they truly have a glimpse of each other’s minds.
Gabriel pulled Lori into a hug, despite her wings getting in his face and the tiny suffocating bathroom stall, he pulled her
close into a bone crushing hug. And just like he would talk to her through his thoughts, he did the same thing… except
this time he sent images through the bond.
Glimpses really.
Of what he imagined of her. And their future together.
What he wanted for the both of them.
How he wanted it to all happen.
And for a long time they both lay there on the bathroom floor.
Lost in time.
With the two of them there was no concept of time. There was no bathroom stall, no dark magic coursing through her
veins willing her to destroy people, no alpha’s summit. There was none.
Just the two of them.
