Let The Alpha Fall 97

The Luna rites. Gabriel had proposed they moved forward with it. And while Lori agreed she was weary of his grandfather. Gabriel was already not close with his family, she suspected she would be making things worse if she didn’t at least try to mend the relationship between them.
“I will talk to grandfather… I called him already.”
Gabriel mentioned at the dining table as he served Lori her plate. Lori was holding Emilia with a bottle in her hand. She
was feeding her.
They had woken up early to Emilia’s cries. And even though they were both thoroughly exhausted, Gabriel made
breakfast while Lori changed and bathed the baby.
Gabriel had started the whole Luna rites conversation, asking if Lori was comfortable enough to move forward with it.
She agreed. She really was.
Gabriel made scrambled eggs, sausage and toast. He even made a cup of coffee. The eggs were good, only a little bit
salty and the toast was overdone. Lori made no complaints as she ate the food.
She was too exhausted. Myra had texted her shortly after she woke up, she was excited and itching to know what had
happened at the Summit. She would come over later and Lori only hoped she was well rested when she arrived.
“And what did he say?”
She asked.
“He agreed to meet. He sounded casual… normal. I think everything will go well.”
Lori nodded.
“That’s good. Very good.”
“Going to work today?”
She asked and he nodded.
“Yes. I have some interviews to do. For the new CEO.”
“Any options yet?”
Gabriel scrunched his eyebrows.
“They all look good. Went to the best of schools, worked in the best of companies, but I won’t truly know who to pick
until I talk to them.”
“Okay. That makes sense.”
“Don’t be too hard on them.”
Lori added and Gabriel gave her a look.
He intended to be hard on them. It was a hard thing for him to do… handing over the reins, but it was what was
necessary for the growth of the company. He would only be there to overlook, but he had to pick the very best person to
head his company. And it was a serious situation. At least for him.
“I can’t make any promises.”
“I’m going grocery shopping today.”
Lori mentioned shortly after a while and Gabriel sighed.
“I can get someone to help with that…”
He said and she shook her head as she placed Emilia on her shoulder to burp her while simultaneously placing a piece of
toast on her mouth.
“No. I need to do it myself. Walk around, take a break. I’m taking Emilia too.”
She could see the look on Gabriel’s face… she already knew the words he wanted to say.
“Lori… it’s not safe.”
“I cannot stay cooped up here forever and believe me it’s not good for the baby. Emilia needs a little sunlight once in a
while.”
“But with Sabine out and all…”
Lori rolled her eyes.
“You have to give me a little more credit sometimes. I can defend myself.”
“I know that. But with Emilia…”
“Fine then. Get someone to go with us. I’m still leaving with her anyways.”
She snapped. She was slightly pissed. Did he really have no faith in her?
She loved Gabriel, she loved him to death but sometimes he treated her like a child.
It was just shopping. For groceries. Sabine would be stupid to attack in public. And she was training… she would be able
to defend herself now.
Besides… she was tired of living her life in fear of the mad woman. They deserved happiness too. They deserved to be
free and live normally.
“Lori..”
Gabriel left his chair and moved behind her, enveloping her in a hug.
“I’m sorry if I’m a little overprotective sometimes…”
“A little?!”
She scoffed and he sighed.
“Okay. I’m sorry if I’m too overprotective.”
“Continue.”
“It’s just that… I can’t bear the thought of losing you…. I can’t imagine a far greater punishment…”
“And I’ve come close to losing you before. I know how it felt.. I never want to feel like that again.”
Lori stroked his fingers with her free hand.
“You won’t lose me again…”
She whispered softly.
“I just need to go out sometimes… do stuff… live normally.”
He nodded as he kissed her neck lovingly.
“You’re right.”
“I’ll have someone go with you so he can help with the groceries.”
“Don’t protest.”
Lori grinned.
“Okay.”
Someone in this case would most likely not be any random nobody. Gabriel would probably be sending one of his best
men along with her, just to ensure their safety.
And Lori wasn’t even going to complain, she didn’t mind a bodyguard.
******************
Lori missed going out and doing mundane things like shopping. And so when the opportunity presented itself. She
decided to go all out. Despite having money in her own account, Gabriel made sure she took his card. He told her she
could buy whatever she wanted with it and as if that wasn’t shocking enough, he made her take one of his favorite cars. A
luxury Bentley SUV.
Michael, the werewolf who was to accompany her and Lori had volunteered to drive but Lori had politely declined. She
needed to drive the car herself. To experience how it felt to drive such a car.
They went to target first, where Lori planned to get some more baby items for Emilia and maybe some stuff for herself.
She browsed in the baby category for a long time, with Michael behind her with the cart and Emilia in her stroller. After a while she moved to another aisle to pick up some lotion for herself.
At the checkout line she spotted a figure approaching. It was hard to miss Kate. Overdressed as usual and the sickly sweet
fake smile on her face.
A smile that quickly dissipated when she set eyes on Lori. She paused and then turned back real quickly. Lori was half
tempted to run after her but she didn’t want to leave Emilia alone.
It was a good thing she ran. Because Lori was already thinking of ways to kill her.
At the parking lot, she met Kate fumbling with her keys. She had left minutes earlier, but she was still beside her car, Lori wondered why she had not left earlier.
She wasted no time in approaching her. With Emilia with her while Michael loaded everything they bought into the car.
“Where are you running to?!”
Lori called out and Kate looked up.
“Running?!”
She asked, pretending to be unbothered.
“Yes. Running. You saw me and bolted.”
“I forgot my purse.”
She raised up a shell pink tiny purse.
“I find that hard to believe…”
“Lori… we’re in public.”
She warned.
Lori raised her eyebrow.
“And?!”
“Be mindful of what you do.”
“You don’t tell me what to do.”
“You partnered up with that evil woman to bring me down.”
“After everything she had done. You of all people know her…”
Lori added.
“You humiliated me in public.”
Kate deadpanned.
“It was a simple slap. You had it out for me…”
“And after you did it you didn’t even apologize.”
Lori shrugged. Did she not? She didn’t remember apologizing though but Gabriel had done enough for the both of them.
“You’re one of Gabriel’s oldest friends… yet you chose to betray him.”
“Tell me… what did she promise you?”
Kate faked ignorance.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
She murmured.
Lori smirked.
“With Lyle, it was the alpha title. She told him if he could take out Gabriel he would be the next alpha. She agreed to
support him.”
“Know what she did later?”
Kate stayed mute. Numb.
Lori was enjoying the look on her face.
“She abandoned him and sent her own beta to kill him. I can only imagine what she has in store for you when she’s done
with you…”
“You don’t scare me.”
Kate said feebly.
Lori shrugged.
“I’m not trying to scare you.”
“Would you like me to scare you?!”
She added as an afterthought as she inched closer to Kate who was frozen on the spot.
“It’s easy… quite easy to believe that you’re immune to violence just because of who your father is. But before wolves had
claws humans have always had their own ways of getting rid of people.”
“And accidents? Oh they happen all too often.”
Her voice was serious and she could have sworn that Kate was slightly trembling.
“A failed car brake… a sudden gas leak… the possibilities are endless.”
She whispered.
“You’re sick!”
Kate spat out as she walked away. Lori watched her in satisfaction as she entered her car and sped out of the driveway.
