“And so you’re here. Are you sure you were not followed?!”
The voice was harsh, rough, something about the angry gruff tone made Astra even more annoyed.
“I was not!”
She snapped.
She had never really seen Nic in person. They had never met. They kept in contact through calls. Calls, texts and
occasionally social media. He was always so nice and encouraging. He had always told her that if she ever needed his
help she could find him in New York. He even gave her the address, she had memorized it, just in case she would ever
need it.
She had never expected him to sound so dismissive, or harsh. It was unlike the Nic she was used to.
Astra may be many things, but she wasn’t inhospitable. That, she knew. And maybe she was foolish to have expected more from Nic. Of course he had probably thought she would never actually need his help. Maybe that was why he was
acting that way.
It was silly and annoying all the same.
She had told him a lot about her, a whole lot! Even told him when she was running away from Denver. He told her she
could drop by anytime.
Why did he lie?!
“Will you help me? Or do you want me to leave?”
Astra said as she stood up, her knees were wobbly but she stood her ground. Nic’s features softened as he shook his
head.
“Don’t leave. Not yet. Not like this.”
“I’ll make you a cup of coffee.”
He added as he left her in the living room.
Astra collapsed back into the chair and sighed. God she was fucking tired.
Few minutes later Nic came back with a cup of coffee. Just like he promised. She had told him a lot of what happened to
her, but he was curious for more, so she downloaded as much information as she could to him while he warmed up a
pizza in the microwave for her.
“I am looking for Ione.”
She finally said and Nic froze for a second.
He looked at her oddly.
She had left out a lot of parts in her story. Specifically the part that said Lori was Ione’s daughter. And a lot about Lori.
“Do you even know who that is?!”
He chuckled and she nodded.
“Kind of. Any idea where she is?”
She asked and Nic shrugged.
“No one in the community has laid eyes on her in the least three years… and that’s pretty standard when it comes to Ione
so…”
“So she can’t be found?”
Astra knew it was a long shot, that it was possible that she would never be able to find the woman, but she had hoped
she would. And now all her hopes were dashed.
“What do you want with her?”
“I need her help with something.”
Astra murmured.
Nic laughed.
“And you thought she would have actually helped you?”
Astra shrugged.
“I know she would want to.”
It was her grandson after all.
Nic stared at her.
“What is all this about? You just got out of a dangerous situation. You should be running a hundred miles in the opposite
direction. Not looking for some elusive woman.”
Astra sighed.
“You are right.”
She had tried her best.
There wasn’t anymore she could do.
“But, it sounds important so I will try and get someone to send a message to her last known location.”
“Oh! Thank you!”
Astra was relieved but Nic quickly shook his head.
“Don’t get your hopes up. This would most likely not work. There’s a big chance that it won’t.”
“I’ll take those chances.”
“Can I borrow your phone?”
She asked and he nodded.
“Want to make a quick call?”
“I do.”
As soon as she got the phone, she typed in the number Lori had once given her. She had said she didn’t need it, but she
had it memorized. Just in case.
Someone picked up after three rings, it was a man’s voice, most likely her mate Gabriel.
“Hello?”
Astra cleared her throat.
“This is Astra. Can I speak to Lori?”
“I have something very important to tell her.”

“I’m so glad you decided to honor my invitation.”
Axel mused as he kissed Sabine’s cheeks. Sabine smiled coyly.
“I’m leaving for New York today… so I thought, why not pay you a visit. Before I leave.”
Axel leads her into the grandiose living room.
“Please. Come in. Make yourself comfortable.”
Axel’s mansion was spectacular. Sabine thought as she looked around. And well fortified too. There were at least a dozen
men stationed outside. And more at the gate. When she had told him she was coming to see him, he had volunteered to
pick her up and he sent his men in his place. They didn’t tell her where his mansion was located and had made her cover
her eyes for the most part of the trip.
Sabine wasn’t bothered about that, he was an alpha, he was right to take precautions, but she was already making her
guesses as to where his mansion was located.
Axel was shirtless. His whole chest was covered in slick sweat, his hair damp. He had worn only pants and he was
barefoot.
“Sorry. I just got back from a run. I hope you don’t mind.”
He said and she shook her head.
“Oh not at all. A full moon is approaching.”
She answered and he nodded.
“Yes. It is.”
“Please sit. I’ll put on a shirt.”
Sabine sat down and watched as Axel left the room, shortly, he came back with a towel and a T-shirt. He wiped the rest of
the sweat from his body and put on his shirt. Sabine evaded her eyes. He had an inviting body.
He was a fine man. Handsome. But dangerous too. She had to be careful.
“So, you want to be my ally?”
Axel chuckled.
“Not so fast Sabine.”
“I need to know what transpired between you and Gabriel. Then I’ll decide.”
Sabine nodded.
“Gabriel and I, I don’t know if you remember but we were once good friends… and then he started treating me horribly
and I retaliated. I had my wolves cause some minor distraction to his territory and he opened a case at the Invito. Then
Lori, his mate came in and it got even worse.”
“How did it get worse? Because she’s nephilim?”
Sabine shook her head.
“No. We all thought she was human at that point. But with her, Gabriel became even more rash with his decisions. He
started attacking me, I partnered up with his cousin for help…”
“When I kidnapped his mate was probably the height of our conflict. I didn’t know she was nephilim until she killed thirty
of my wolves. At that point I had to flee, but I didn’t leave empty handed.”
Axel leaned towards her. He looked serious.
“What did you take from them?”
He asked in curiosity.
Sabine smirked.
“I took Lori’s son. A little nephilim boy.”
Axel’s eyes widened.
“And this boy, He is still with you?!”
Sabine nodded.
“He is. They’ve been looking for him ever since. I had to leave the state with him.”
Axel chuckled.
“Interesting. I see why they were shocked to see you at the Summit.”
“He’s valuable.”
Sabine said as she sank in her seat.
“At first… I planned on keeping him hostage till they gave me something in return… but now… I think he’s too valuable to
return.”
Axel raised his eyebrow.
“He is. Nephilim have always been valuable commodity. They used to be hunted for their blood.”
Sabine nodded.
“I am aware.”
“And you still don’t know what to do with him?”
Sabine shrugged.
“I don’t. He’s not fully nephilim so I’m not sure his blood is that valuable….”
She trailed off.
“You should have him tested then.”
“To see if he really does possess nephilim powers.”
Sabine remained quiet on this. She had not considered doing that, but it was something she could do.
Axel said as he beckoned one of his men and asked for a drink.
“But you do know that now that you attended the Summit, you have exposed yourself. Gabriel will be on your tail.”
Sabine nodded.
“You are right. And that is why I’m here, to see if you would ally yourself with me.”
Axel was silent for a while. Someone brought in drinks. A bottle of wine and two glasses.
Axel poured the wine.
He stood up and offered Sabine a glass of wine, his eyes lingering on her.
“That is yet to be determined. I have to see if you have something to offer me first.”
***************
“New York. We have to hurry!”
Lori said as she started throwing clothes into a suitcase. Gabriel ran after her.
“Lori. Calm down. What if it’s a trap?”
Lori shook her head.
“I haven’t known Astra for long but she’s not the type to partner with someone like Sabine. She’s telling the truth.”
“At least wait. You’re not really going to travel to New York based on what she told you! Let Draco and I check it out first.”
Lori turned to him with a frown on her face.
“I’m going and that’s final! You’re either coming with me or staying home!”
She snapped.
Gabriel caved.
“I’ll book our flights.”
He answered meekly as he left the room.
After packing her suitcase she changed her clothes. Astra told her they didn’t have much time. Sabine was not in New
York, but she was pretty sure that Jack was still in New York.
They had to get there before Sabine. They had to get there before she got there.
That was the only way they would beat her. Lori thought as she put on her shoes.
She threw her hair in a ponytail and dragged her suitcase to the living room. It was half full, she didn’t pack much
because she was jittery, she couldn’t even remember what she had packed but she was sure she had packed a lot of
random things.
“I’ve booked our flight. Let’s go.”
“Wait! Let me call Grace to babysit.”
Lori said as she ran towards the phone.
“Grace went on a trip remember?! Call Draco and ask him if his mate can watch her for a few days.”
Lori nodded.
“Okay. Okay.”
She remembered something and turned to Gabriel.
“Are you sure you should go? You were supposed to meet your grandfather this evening. Maybe you should stay.”
“And the full moon is in a few days. I wouldn’t want you to miss that too…”
Gabriel shook his head.
“They can all wait. This is more important.”
