Let The Alpha Fall 99

Let The Alpha Fall 99

“And how exactly did she escape?!”
Siobhan trembled at the sound of Sabine’s voice. It was low, dangerous, deadly and with the look on her face, she feared
for her life.
Sabine had arrived unexpectedly and she had been burdened with telling her the truth. That Astor had escaped, under
her own watch.
It was an honest mistake on her part. She had overestimated her potion’s potency and thought the after effects would
last longer, but she had arrived back to the room to deliver a sedative and found the room empty. The only evidence of
the escape was the tampered windowsills. At that point she was already trembling.
She had alerted the rest of Sabine’s wolves and they had set out to find her but they came back with nothing. She must
have left hours ago.
A mistake Siobhan wouldn’t have made if she wasn’t frolicking in the sheets with the guards. Of course she wasn’t going
to tell Sabine that, but Sabine really wasn’t going to accept any excuse of hers.
“The window..”
She answered and Sabine shook her head.
“And what were you doing then?!”
Siobhan sighed.
“I went out for a few minutes to relieve myself and I came back to an empty room.”
She lied. Sabine caught the lie but decided to ignore it. Siobhan was scared enough to make Sabine sure of her
innocence. She wouldn’t have let Astra escape, but she had been negligent. It didn’t make her any less angry but she wasn’t itching to get rid of her yet. The witch was still useful.
But Astra leaving posed a new issue. One of which was how she could lead Gabriel and Lori towards her. That was what
she had to be careful with.
Sabine sighed.
“Have they found her yet?!”
Siobhan shook her head.
“No. They haven’t. They say she might be in hiding, so it is possible she isn’t far off. Unless she has friends around I doubt
she’d be able to survive without making a fuss. I have ears and eyes all over the city.”
Sabine nodded.
“We’ll talk about that little inconvenience later. I have something you must do.”
“What’s that?!”
Siobhan asked in surprise. She wasn’t expecting Sabine to dismiss the subject so easily. It was unlike her, but then again
something else could be on her mind, she had been acting off ever since she came back.
Siobhan suspected she had bigger issues to worry about, that was why she wasn’t making such a fuss about the missing
nephilim.
Siobhan was curious and frightened about it.
“The boy. I want him tested, I want to know what he can do.”
Siobhan was aware of the little boy Sabine kidnapped and even though they were all on the same roof, she had not really
set her eyes on him. Sometimes she would hear a baby’s cry and most times she would hear nothing. The boy and
whoever was taking care of him were sequestered in a room, kept away from sight and the door to their room was always
guarded. Once in a while some wolves would run errands for the woman in the room and come back with bags of
supplies. But that was all she had been allowed to see really, nothing more.
She had never been invited into the room.
“Tested?!”
Sabine nodded.
“His blood. I want to know how capable it is. Can you do that?”
“He’s a baby…”
Siobhan weakly protested.
“And?! It’ll just be a few drops of blood… I think.”
Siobhan wiped the sweat forming on her brow, this wasn’t in the plan and she felt mildly uncomfortable testing a baby,
despite the numerous experiments she had done, kids were always oddly enough off limits.
“Is it necessary?”
She finally asked and Sabine nodded.
“It is of utmost importance. And if you won’t do it then I’ll have to find someone else who will because time isn’t on our
side, we need to start planning to leave this place before our location gets compromised.”
“Compromised?”
Sabine nodded.
“Yes. Compromised. Let’s just hope that menace you let escape wouldn’t cause any more trouble.”
Sabine led Siobhan to Jack’s room, where Jack and one of her trusted pack member had been staying. There were at least
two copies of keys to get in. One with her and another with the pack member who was acting as the baby’s nanny.
She unlocked the door herself and walked in.
The nanny was in a reclining chair dozing while the baby slept in the makeshift cot.
The nanny quickly stood up the minute she noticed that it was Sabine who had entered.
“Alpha.”
She said as she tried to steady herself on her feet.
Sabine ignored her.
“Make it quick.”
She told Siobhan.
The witch put down her bag of supplies, her hands a little jittery as she reached into it.
Sabine stood by to supervise the entire thing.
When Siobhan drew the blood, the baby cried and she flinched, but she managed to get at least two vials from him.
“Is he healing himself?”
She asked out of curiosity and the witch shook her head.
“He’s not.”
She said as she put a bandage over his arm to stop the bleeding.
They left shortly after the came in and went back to the room where Astra was previously held.
Sabine had handpicked one of her men to join her in the room. He was going to be their test subject.
“The fastest way to get it in would be intravenous.”
Siobhan murmured as she pulled out a syringe.
“Do what you must.”
Sabine said as she relaxed in a chair.
“Okay. We will first test his healing rate before giving him the blood. Then we will test him after.”
“How will we do that?! My healing rate is pretty fast.”
The guard boasted.
Sabine gave him a look, she stood up from her chair and walked towards him.
“Not fast enough when it’s a wound from your alpha.”
She muttered as she slapped her hands across his face. Her claws dragging deep and drawing blood.
The guard growled, his eyes turning a bright yellow before dimming.
Siobhan set her timer and waited.
They all waited while the guard groaned in pain.
“Healing rate is extremely slow, almost non existent.”
Siobhan murmured as she looked at the time.
Over three minutes and the wounds and pain remained.
“Administer the blood then. Let’s see if it speeds it up.”
Siobhan nodded as she filled up the syringe with the vial of blood, seconds later she passed the blood and quickly set the
timer.
Right before their eyes, the scars from the bloody encounter went away.
“It does work.”
Sabine breathed.
Siobhan was equally shocked. She didn’t know much about the boy but Sabine had implied he wasn’t fully nephilim.
She had thought that, combined with the fact that he was a baby would have made the test failed.
“Forty eight seconds. Completely healed. How do you feel?!”
She asked and the guard nodded.
“Felt like you just gave me an adrenaline boost.”
There was a cocky smile on his face.
He nodded at the witch.
“Got anymore of that stuff?!”
“You may leave.”
Sabine said dismissively and the guard left.
She picked up her phone and dialed Axel.
He picked up on the second ring.
“Yes?!”
He said seductively on the phone.
Sabine smiled.
“I had the boy tested. It’s true. His blood does have the same healing properties.”
Axel was quiet for a while•
“That’s excellent news.”
He beamed and Sabine smiled.
“Are you interested in being my ally now? Now that I have something to offer you.”
Axel scoffed.
“You think I’m interested in the boy?!“
“Yes. More than you would let on. Your fascination with Lori doesn’t have much to do about who she is, but what she is,
that fascination it seems, also extends to her son.”
“I’m good at reading people.”
She added and Axel chuckled.
“I’m now aware of that.”
“I’m leaving soon. This location has been compromised… but I have no where else to go…. All my other locations…
Gabriel knows all of them, I thought I’d be safe here for at least a while but I don’t think I will.”
“You need somewhere to stay?”
He asked and she nodded.
“Desperately. Somewhere to stay… and preferably how to leave this state without taking a public flight.”
“Leave that all to me. I will get a friend in New York ready to pick you up in a second.”
*****************
Even though the trip to New York had been as fast as they could manage, there was a nagging feeling in Lori’s chest that
made her think that they were too late.
She was on the edge of her seat all through the ride to the apartment complex, they had followed the address that Astra
had given them. She was jittery because restless as they approached the building.
She had even left her luggage in the car that had dropped them off at the complex, claiming she would come back for it
later.
When they finally reached the apartment floor, disappointment weighed Gabriel’s features, he couldn’t hear or smell
anything then.
Lori’s heart sank but she held out hope till they managed to break in the door.
It was empty.
Her heart truly sank.
They quietly examined the rooms, the last room Lori examined smelled of diapers, baby powder and a oddly familiar
scent.
It was blood.
Her blood.
She froze as she moved to the large cardboard box that has been used as a makeshift bassinet and found a few drops of
blood on the card box and froze.
It was dry, but something told her it wasn’t only a few hours old. Not even a day old.
The room still smelled of scents.
A baby’s scent and an adult female werewolf intertwined.
Gabriel had taught her how to distinguish scents, even though her sense of smell wasn’t nearly as good as hers. While
they could decipher the layers of a person’s scent and even find out who the scent belongs to, Lori couldn’t do much
and would probably not be able to do much.
Scents were not her forte. But they were Gabriel’s.
And he quickly wasted no time in telling her there were at least four people in the room.
“Sabine was here. Jack, another werewolf and a witch.”
“A witch?!”
Gabriel nodded.
“Yes. I’ll look around for clues. She doesn’t smell like any other normal witch, so I think we might have something on
her.”
“And Astra gave us as much details as she could remember of her.”
Lori sighed and sat on the reclining chair while Gabriel went back to do a thorough search, tears slowly pooling in her
eyes.
Another dead end.
She thought as she closed her eyes.
