Chapter 12
Lori joined Mr Gabriel for dinner after she had put the baby down for bedtime. She had changed into a plain green shirt and sweat pants and joined Mr Gabriel at the table. He had barely gotten out of his work clothes, he had spent a long time talking to Elliot.
or sat at the table, he rolled up the sleeves of his shirt as he unbuttoned a few of the first buttons.
Lori tried to look away, but she found herself checking him out. There was something about him rolling up his shirt that she found interesting enough to
And the way he ran his hands through his hair in mild frustration was just so effortlessly sexy, be didn’t have to even try.
Lori caught herself quickly before he noticed her. No! She shouldn’t be checking him out, he was her boss, her employer.
Sylvia came out with the food. They were having steak. Steak and greens with a side of salads,
A glass of Chateau for Mr Gabriel hut water for her since she was breastfeeding. It was all good, she was never much of a drinker anyways. She wasn’t really a fan of alcohol.
It was their first dinner together and without Grace at the table to initiate the conversation, it started off extremely awkward.
t her food would
Lori ate quietly, slowly, aware of the growing tension between the two of them. She stole glances at him under her eyelashes and wished that her f disappear quickly enough for her to leave.
“So you’ve met Elliot.”
M
Caluriel finally said and Lori turned to look at him.
She nodded her head slowly.
“He’s my cousin. I would have introduced you to him if I had known he was staying at the beach house
Mr Gabriel shrugged.
1 had no idea. Grace has a soft spot for Elliot. She must have snuck him into the house.”
No wonder they kept taking out trays of food to meet him.
“Family. You know how they can be.”
Mr Gabriel said as he shrugged.
No, No she didn’t know. The people who were close enough or even considered family to her were the knew that hurt her the most.
They were the ones
she had to run away from.
“I’m an orphan,”
She deadpanned and Gabriel froze.
“Shit I’m sorry
He said and she shrugged
“It’s okay.”
There was another awkward silence before Lori remembered another thing. The morning incident.
About this morning….
1/4.
Chapter 17
Gabriel quickly shook his head and raised his hand.
“T’d actually rather not talk about it. I’m fine with it if that’s what you want to know.”
He answered and Lani sighed in relief
*Thank you.”
He shook his head.
“No, thank you, You’ve been amazing to Emilia.”“
That was a relief. A big one, because Lori had been nervous about not doing well. If they had all been closely watching her they’d know that she had never handied babies before, let alone a newborn, so she had been extra careful not to slip up. And nervous.
Very nervous.
“Oh. Mr Gabriel…”
“Gabriel.”
He corrected.
“I’m sorry.
Gabriel, I was asking Sylvia if you had some books and she said that you did but they were in the study. And she told me the study is off limits.”
“I would like to borrow some books to read.”
Gabriel looked like he was thinking at first before nodding his head.
“Sure. I can lend you some books to read.”
“Thank you”
Lori answered.
They seemed to be getting along well, it wasn’t as bad as she had envisioned.
After dinner, Lori and Gabriel both went upstairs, making small talk about Emilia on the way.
Gabriel kissed his daughter goodnight and disappeared into his study while Lori went into her room.
I think I’m getting the hang of this. Lori said to herself as she changed yet another diaper. The fourth one that day. Emilia gurgled happily, her small legs in the air while Lori wiped her bottom.
They had good.
I finally gotten into a routine, one that thankfully didn’t make Lori look like a zombie more than half of the time. That was good, that was very
Things were going well and Lori felt at peace. She was nightmare free, for at least one week now, basically ever since she had been working with the Caines.
It was a great feeling.
She put Emilia in the baby wrap and grabbed her dirty bottles to wash downstairs. Some of the staff were unavailable, apparently Mr Cabriel gave them one day off every month, that was what jenny had told her when Lori found her packing a bag the night before.
She had woken up the next morning to only Mr Gregory, who despite her numerous protests had made her breakfast. Lori was famished anyway so she couldn’t refuse the food.
Mr Gabriel was nowhere to be seen that morning 100, he had left very early, it was an emergency he said, and now close to noon, Lori realised she was practically the only one left in the house. Even Elliot had left the beach house that morning.
It was a bit strange, but she oddly liked the feeling of having the house to herself. Although the house was quite large and daunting, she had occupied herself all morning with the books Gabriel lent her and Emilia.
He gave her at least five. They were all classics, he had mentioned while briefly apologising for them. Lori didn’t mind, she would read them all the
emporary novel type, she started on one of them and quite enjoyed it
so was very well behaved all mining, she had not even cried during tummy time of when Lou was trying to put her down for het naj
After Lon finished washing the bottles, she set them on the count to dry schile she went to check the pantry for diapers.
She couldnt find any move diapers in the nursery and She remembered Grace had told her to check the garage if she ever needed more diapers for the baby
In the garage, Lori could hardly find anything, there seemed to be so much junk and boxes in the garage
She sighed after looking again for another ten minutes.
At that moment, she gave up and tested Gabriel
Emilia’s out of diapers. – Lori
She texted, barely two minutes later, there was a reply.
Is there anybody home? – Gabriel
He asked and Lori scoffed, he must have forgotten that he sent everyone home for the day.
No. Just me and the baby.
- Ill pick some up on my way from the city.
Knowing how late Gabriel arrived home everyday, Lori knew that it was a bad idea to wait. What would she use while she waited for him to come back home with more diapers?
She couldn’t guarantee Emilia wouldn’t need any more diapers till then
I dont think we can wait that long. How about I go get some? – Lori
There was a long break and Lori though that Gabriel had already ignored her or wasn’t liking the idea of her going out with the baby.
He was calling her, barely a second later.
“Can you drive!”
He asked her the second she picked up the call, he didn’t even give her a chance to say hello.
“Yes. I have a driver’s licence.”
Lori answered.
“Good. Take the Mercedes. There’s an Ames black card in my room on the nightstand, the door to
to my room is unlocked,
- d. you can take it with
h you.”
Loris eyes widened, he was trusting her with his car? And his card?
“I would have called Tony but he’s too far away. Use the GPS, it’ll take you directly to the nearest Target where we shop.”
“play”
Lori nodded
“Are you okay with going alone with the baby? I can try and nash back down here but it’s going to take a while.”
Lori shrugged.
“Oh no! It won’t be a problem, I’ll just put her in the car seat.”
She answered and Gabriel seemed to grunt in approval.
“Take the stroller too.”
Chapter 12
He added and Lori agreed with him.
After he ended the call, she was still surprised, he was really going to let her take his car?! And his card?
ted moving.
Lori quickly started
The car seat was in the nursery, from the looks of it, it had only been used a few times, Lori set the sleeping baby down on her rockaroo while she went to
set up the car seat.
With that, she packed a small bag of wipes and a change of clothes. Then, she went into Gabriel’s room which was unlocked like he had mentioned.
When she entered his room, her jaw dropped. Dark colours, dark sheets and dark furniture, if not for the dim lights, she would have been plunged in total darkness
His bedroom was beautiful and weirdly sinful too. There was a painting of a wolf on the wall above th
the bed, Gabriel seemed to have a thing for wolves
She walked past the plush rug in the middle of the room all the way to the night stand where truthfully, there was a credit card on it. She quickly went back to her room to have a change of clothes.
She had not been out in such a long while, she wanted to at least look good while going out.
She picked her red gown and the doc marten boots. It was what she wore the first time she met Mr Gabriel Caine. She ran her hands through her raven black hair and fluffed it a bit. Her hair was looking lifeless and greasy, she didn’t have time to wash het hair in the shower because of the baby.
She lightly applied lip gloss and dabbed perfume on her body, then went back downstairs to pick up the baby.
Emillia was still quite sleepy and didn’t hesitate when she was put into the car seat.
Lori went to the driver’s side after putting the baby in her car seat and securing her in
She was nervous.
She knew how to drive, but it had been so long, it had been over a year since she drove. When she was in Oklahoma one of the things she did was to get her driver’s licence. She got it on her first trial and passed all her tests, even though she didn’t have a car then, she had been so hopeful, about her life and what
it was going to be.
She had even enrolled into college, she was on the path to bettering her life.
At least until it all got ruined.
The Mercedes was beautifull and stock. She got the hang of it after a few minutes and she was extra careful with it.
Very careful. It was her boss’s car. She kept on checking the rearview mirror to look at Emilia, who for the most part looked unbothered and asleep.
She had set up the Gps like Gabriel told her to, putting in the address that he told her to put and after twenty minutes, they arrived back into the city, exactly at the target store he mentioned.
The minute the car stopped, the baby became fussy and Lori calmed her down before putting her in the stroller with a pacifier and wheeling her towards
Target.
She had barely gotten into Target and was right in front of the entrance when she saw Mrs Fuller coming out of the exit and glaring right at her.
