Chapter 66
“He’s alive… The Fullers kept that knowledge away from you.”
No. Lori could not believe her ears. Could not believe the lies the woman in front of her was spewing. She was lying. It was a blatant bold faced lie.
Why would she lie about something like that?!
Sabine saw that Lori didn’t look convinced and she brought out her phone.
“I have a picture of him with the Fullers. Maybe this will make you believe.”
She said as she showed Lori her phone.
Lori took cautious steps towards her. Walking closer to her but staying at a respectful distance in case it was a trap.
She froze.
Her hands shaking slightly as she looked at the family portrait.
Was it another baby?
Could he really be her son?
“You know why he didn’t die?”
Lori looked up to Sabine.
Confusion etched in her blood splattered face.
“He didn’t die because he’s just like you. He is half nephilim but he still inherited your powers. Super fast healing… among other abilities…”
Sabine said as she ran her eyes all over Lori again.
Gods… the blood of her wolves was splattered all over her, Sabine clenched her jaw tightly.
She had to restrain herself, because if she didn’t…
She wanted to throttle her. She wanted to strangle her right there on the spot but of what use would that be to her?
She would probably never be able to walk away from such fight.
It was too big of a risk. And there were other ways… better ways to punish Lori for her crimes.
“You knew?”
Lori asked. When Gabriel had told her that there was a strong possibility that she wasn’t human, but some powerful almost extinct supernatural she had shooed away the thought. Because it sounded ridiculous. Part of her secretly believed it, the other part didn’t.
If she had powers she wouldn’t have fallen in the hands of Jared. Or Asher. Her powers didn’t save her then when she needed them the most. It didn’t save her from her abusers. It didn’t make her life any less shitty.
She had dismissed the thought thinking whatever she had was useless. Besides, human or not, it had never really been a huge concern of hers.
Until now. And finding out Sabine knew… just made things a lot weirder.
Sabine nodded.
“I could smell it on you.”
“That day when you were in the basement.”
Lori remembered. She had looked curious, but remained tight lipped and spoke evasively. She must have been hiding it from Lyle.

Chapter 66
“You were hiding it from Lyle…
She trailed off and Sabine nodded.
“Exactly.”
Lori gulped bard. If her son was alive… what? What did that even mean?
So far… she didn’t know how to react, she still didn’t believe it. She didn’t believe her ears.
“Where’s my son? You said he’s alive. Is he still with the Fullers?”
Oh if he was… she would give them hell. Hell for putting her through that kind of agony. Hell for making her feel so guilty and horrible. For many nights she bad nightmares about him, about the loss and the pain.
She could still remember the physical ache that came in her chest when she remembered him.
Sabine smiled shy
“The Fullers… well, let’s just say they’re permanently out of the equation.”
“I have taken your son under my custody for safekeeping.”
“What?!”
Lori exclaimed and Sabine shrugged.
“You’re in no state right now to take care of him.”
Lori scoffed.
“What gives you the fucking right?!”
“It’s for the best.”
“For the best?! Are you joking? Is this some kind of sick joke?!”
Sabine shook her head.
“Fortunately for you, I am not. Now listen to me Loretta and listen carefully.”
Her tone changed, her eyes darkening to a blood red color, the wolf in her, was coming out in little doses, the sharpened claw, the glare and the unmistakable scent of rage tingeing the cool night air.
Lori’s new found confidence faltered a bit and she took a step back. If the woman had her son then it wouldn’t be wise to fight with her.
“You will do as I say, or you’ll never see little Jack again.”
What?
Lori nodded to show that she understood and Sabine relaxed. Slowly, her features went back to normal, she looked human again.
“My grandmother was half nephilim. Just like your son. She had a great deal of power she managed to control. I inherited a fraction and I think I have parts of her power running through my veins. That was how I was able to spot you.”
“I know the scent of nephilims. I know it very well. As you must already know now, there’s not much of you around, mostly because your kind is hunted for your blood. It’s one of the reasons I kept quiet about my heritage too.”
Sabine sighed.
*I’m suspecting something triggered your powers. Something deep. But whatever it is, this whole situation is going to get extremely bad for you. You will become volatile, you will become very angry and worst of all you will be a slave to your powers if you don’t learn how to control it.”
“This newfound power is not a blessing Loretta. It is a curse.”

“What do you mean?”
Lori asked quieth
“It is my only condition Lori. The only condition I have for you.”
“He’s my mate… how can you ask that of me?!”
“Oh I can and I will! You can reject him for all I care but the moment I see you with him, you can go back to remembering little Jack as good as dead.”
Lori lunged for Sabine and grabbed her throat, pinning her to the ground. Sabine thrashed beneath her but Lori’s grip only got tighter.
Tighter and tighter… till she could see the light slowly disappearing from Sabine’s eyes and she panicked and broke out of her reverie.
Sabine crawled away from her, one hand caressing her bruised neck.
“See… see what I’m talking about!”
“You’re out of control!”
“Where’s my son?!”
Lori demanded and Sabine closed her eyes.
Fight it. Fight the mind control by avoiding direct eye contact. It wasn’t a guaranteed way to avoid it but it would help.
She opened her eyes and averted her gaze, finally feeling some semblance of normalcy as she didn’t feel Lori’s hold on her again.
“He’s safe with me. Only if you do as I say!”
Sabine demanded and she finally pulled herself to her feet.
“Lori… don’t make this hard on yourself… I’m doing you a favor. I’m helping you…”
Lori shook her head.
“You’re not helping me…. You’re blackmailing me. You’re taking advantage of me…”
Sabine shrugged.
“Think of it however you want to think of it. But, if you care about your biological son, who may or may not be in danger right now, then you’d do as I say.”
“And what? What do you want me to do?!”
“What I told you to do! Reject Gabriel Caine as your mate.”
Lori shook her head.
“No. No. That’s not what you said before… you told me to stay away from him.”
Sabine scoffed.
“Well! Your little fit of anger just made me change my mind. Now I want you to reject him.”
“Reject him or forget you even have a son.”
Her head was pounding like a drum. This, everything… it was all too much… she just wanted to scream.
So loud. Drown out all her thoughts and the annoying sound of Sabine’s voice.
She looked at Sabine and found the woman waiting for an answer. She didn’t have an answer to give her.
She wouldn’t

Chapter 66
How could she make a choice? How could she pick?
“So? Who is it going to be? Your son? Or Your mate?”
“Something’s wrong!!”
Gabriel thought as he felt strangely uneasy. He had been feeling it for quite a while, but he had dismissed it because he was getting ready with his wolves to attack. He thought it was the Super moon playing games on him but then he heard a clear distress signal in his head and instantly knew that it was Lori.
He tried to reach out. But then she went blank. Distant.
Blank as in she wasn’t there. The bond vanished and Gabriel wanted to scream.
What?! What did that mean? He had asked himself countlesly.
He couldn’t feel her, he couldn’t feel the bond.
When they arrived at the location, the strong smell of wolf blood hit him.
He and his men halted.
Something… something had gone terribly wrong.
