Chapter 67
Astra Barlow. That was the name of the nephilim woman that was given to her.
Astra Barlow lived in a dump, the dirty long streets deep in Denver and Lori was too tired to care. She had to see the woman, she needed her help one way or another.
Sabine had been right about two things. That Jack was alive and that her powers were dangerous.
She still couldn’t fully believe it. That her son was alive, she couldn’t even find the appropriate emotion to describe what it was she was feeling.
Her mind was all muddled up and she knew it was directly linked to her newly found powers.
She felt like a ticking time bomb, occasionally having to keep a stoic face to keep her powers from going off at the slightest provocation.
The random bursts of power that came with an emotion was unbearable. And it had only been a few hours!
She could not, she would not live with this forever.
She couldn’t even think about Gabriel. It hurt too much whenever she tried to.
She didn’t accept Sabine’s offer. She only pretended to, for a while. Her major problem now was controlling the overflowing pit of power that was threatening to consume her.
As much as she missed Gabriel and Emilia dearly, she knew they wouldn’t be safe around her. Just like those wolves she had killed. She prayed that at least Elliot wasn’t among them. She didn’t think he was but she also couldn’t trust herself anymore. She hoped he had gotten out of time, she had not seen him ever since he gave her the bite.
And Lyle… wherever he was… Lori hoped he was suffering long and hard in the hands of Gabriel or whatever cruel fate he would meet.
She hoped that Gabriel was at least looking for her… because even though she knew she was meant to stay away… the thought was comforting in a way.
Lori still didn’t know why Sabine truly wanted to help her. She strangely didn’t believe she was helping herself. Sabine was not nephilim, Sabine wasn’t her, so why was she willing to protect an endangered group of supernaturals that she had never been a part of?
It was weird.
Weird to say the least but it didn’t stop Lori from following her instructions. She needed the help, too bad it was coming from her worst enemy.
In front of the red door at the back of a dirt alley Lori frantically knocked the door. She had swiped a black dirty coat from some old man and it did a lot to help the blood and muck that was covered from her from the fight.
She needed a bath. A long and nice bath but that was at the bottom of her list.
She knocked again, this time with more anger and fervor and felt the hinges of the door creaking loudly.
She paused abruptly. This was how it had been for her for the last few hours. Constantly walking on eggshells around her own power.
It made her sick to the stomach.
The door opened and a short woman with a deep frown stood in front of her. The woman had hazel eyes like hers and a smooth face with shortly cropped curly hair.
She was wearing an apron over her gown.
“Who the fuck are you and why are you trying to break my door?!
She exclaimed and Lori sighed.
“I’m looking for Astra Barlow.”
The woman’s frown deepened.
“Who’s asking.”

Tori. Lori Wyatt.”
Sabine Rendant told me I could find you here. She said that you could help me.”
There was
uncomfortable silence as the woman peered at Lori
Help you how
She asked and Lori sighed
You re just be me… you know.”
Astra shook her head
Tm nothing like the likes of you!”
She spat out angrily
Will you help me or not?
Lori demanded and something in the way she spoke the words made Astra’s frown falter.
She stepped back
“Come in
She quickly ushered her in
Lori stood awkwardly at the door as the woman stared at her.
“You look dirty.
She noted as her eyes raked all over her. Lori nodded.
“I know.”
She answered. Suddenly feeling self conscious in her dirty blood soaked clothes. How did she even ever get away with looking like that?!
“Take off your coat. Bathrooms that way. When you’re clean we can talk.
The woman said as she pointed to the end of the hall.
Lori nodded and followed her command.
Slowly peeling off the coat and dumping it on the coat hanger.
In the bathroom she looked much more worse than she thought she did.
Her skin deathly pale, her hands and neck and parts of her face covered in dried blood. Her clothes probably had to be burned. She couldn’t imagine wearing them again. At least not with the unmistakable scent of blood on them.
As she peeled off her sweatshirt she studied her waist. She could vividly remember Elliot biting her, but when she touched the spot that he did bite her all she could feel and see was smooth smooth skin.
It was weird.
It had healed so fast.
Almost as if nothing had happened.
She thought about Gabriel and all the emotions that was running through his head. Sabine told her she would handle him, but knowing her, Lori could almost imagine the bes she d spin to him.
She could easily also tell him that she was dead.
Chapter 67
Lori tried to feel the mating bond between them… but no. Her mind was too chaotic. She was jittery and anxious. It wasn’t working. Not like she wanted it
- to.
She touched her neck, fondly remembering when Gabriel had bitten her and realized in horror that the place where Gabriel had bitten her had cleared too.
“No.. no..
She whispered as she touched her neck.
Nothing. There was nothing there.
She could vividly remember there being a sort of bruising there, she could feel it before, just a few hours before everything happened. Now it was all gone.
All gone.
What did that mean?
There were no survivors. Not a single one.
No sign of Lori either. Or Sabine or any of the rest of her men. In fact, it looked like they had been trying to gather the bodies and had left hurriedly in the middle of the cleanup. Probably when they could smell that he was close.
He had sent his men after them, the scent was still fresh so it was possible they would get something.
The cottage smelled of her. The basement especially.
Elliot too and at one point it felt as if their scents had been entwined.
“What do you make of this? What do you make of all these Alpha?”
Draco asked as they looked at the pile of bloody wolves. They were set to be burnt. Sabine couldn’t even care enough about them to give them a proper funeral.
Pathetic! Gabriel thought as he turned his face away.
“I don’t know… someone must have been here…..”
Gabriel said as he looked around again. There were no clues. None.
No sign of Lori or Elliot or anything tangible to help them.
Sabine had bolted too. It looked like whatever plan she had in mind had failed. Woefully too.
“But who?”
“Or what?”
Draco asked.
“Call Sabine.”
Gabriel said and Draco’s jaw dropped.
“Are you sure?”
He stammered and Gabriel nodded.
‘She doesn’t know that we know she’s involved… wouldn’t you like to keep it that way?!”
Draco asked and Gabriel shook his head.
No, not when Lori was still missing. He would declare outright war with Sabine.

Chapter 67
What?
What was this silly woman insinuating.
He paced across the living room again and that scent hit him again.
The scent of Lori and Elliot mixed together.
Gabriel looked at the sofa and saw dried blood on it.
He pressed two of his fingers to it and put it to his lips.
His eyes widened.
He knew that taste. He just had it a few days ago.
It was Lori. Lori’s blood.
Did? Did Elliot bite her?
Did he somehow attempt to turn her into a werewolf.
He turned to Draco and he could see the same questions running through his beta’s mind.
Oh gods.
What the fuck happened?!
He calmly put the phone back to his ear.
“I can promise you one thing now Sabine.”
His voice was somber, fatal and deadly, even Draco balked at the sound of it.
Sabine had crossed a line. A dangerous one. She was playing a game only Gabriel could win.
She would not survive the aftermath of Gabriel’s wrath.
“Oh and what is that?”
She asked her sultry voice dripping with sarcasm.
‘I’m coming for you Sabine Reinhardt. Enjoy whatever freedom you have now, because when I finally sink my fangs into your neck, you’d wish you never crossed me.”
“You were being followed.”
Astra said as she handed Lori a change of clothes the minute she stepped out of the bathroom.
Lori halted, her hair still dripping wet.
“What?!”
She exclaimed and Astra nodded.
“Sabine likes to protect her interests. I’m guessing she must be very interested in you to send someone to spy on you.”
The woman beckoned to Lori and led her the living room where she opened the blinds slightly.
She was right, there was a man just across the street just standing there. Lori wondered how she didn’t notice she had been followed, but decided that she had been too disoriented to even take notice of that.
