Chapter 26 A Performance For You
Lara’s hunger strike had Oscar worried sick. That evening, he personally brought her a real. “It’s me. Open the door.”
Oscar stood outside, holding a tray. Who would have thought that the head of the powerful Ross Group, a man who commanded respect and authority, would be so completely wrapped around his little sister’s finger?
When she let him in, Lara was sitting cross–legged on the bed, fully immersed in a video game. The aroma of the food didn’t tempt her in the slightest.
“Are you trying to starve yourself to death?” Oscar’s voice was deep and serious.
Lara didn’t respond, the sound effects from the game filling the room. Only after she finished her round did she toss the tablet aside and lift her head to look straight at her brother.
“Who’s your favorite character in The Princess?”
Oscar was confused. “Prince Gregory.”
Lara yanked the bedsheet over her shoulders like a cape. “Then let me give you a little performance as Romma, okay?”
“Have you lost your mind?”
Lara clasped her hands together and dramatically exclaimed, “Your Majesty, please reconsider! The Queen only has your e interests at heart. You must not let her painstaking efforts go to waste!”
Oscar wasn’t having it. Just eat.
He ripped the bedsheet off her, grabbed her by the collar, and dragged her toward the table. Pinning her down just like he used to when forcing her to do homework as a kid, he commanded, “Not a lick of stew left.”
Crossing his arms, he pulled out a chair and sat right next to her, fixing her with an unblinking stare–the kind that could make any young girl swoon.
Fine, fine, I’ll eat.
Lara picked up her fork.
Oscar sighed. “I’ll let you explore the entertainment industry for a couple of years. But if you don’t make any real progress after that, you’re coming back to take over the family business.”
He had come to understand one thing–his sister had always been stubborn. They had spoiled her too much, and no amount of reasoning would change her mind. Even if she agreed to work in the company now, he knew she wouldn’t truly give up on her dreams.
Maybe it was better to let her experience it firsthand.
What Oscar didn’t realize at that moment was that two years was far too generous a deadline. In just six months, Lara would take the entertainment industry by storm. For now, though, he remained blissfully unaware, watching his little sister eat.
“But-
Lara cut him off. “Can you finish a sentence without dragging it out?” Her eyes widened with exasperation.
Is he going to reconsider?
Oscar ruffled her hair roughly. “I’m not going to reconsider. But I don’t trust the assistant the company assigned to you. I have someone better in mind.”
“Who?”
Oscar smirked. “You know him pretty well.”

That caught Lara’s attention.
Oscar’s secretary was the only person she could think of. But could she ever afford this se called assistant!
“Go to bed early. I’m taking you to Mayer Group tomorrow.”
Lara trailed after Oscar like a little shadow, her smaller figure completely dwarfed by his tall frame. As she rubbed her hands together, a mischievous glint flashed in her eyes–then, without warning, she leaped onto his back.
Oscar stumbled slightly from the impact and turned around, looking at her helplessly. “Are you a child?”
Lara giggled and pinched his car. “Even when I’m eighty. I’ll still be a kid to you” She wrapped her arms around his neck. “But how are you going to convince Dad?”
Oscar remained unfazed. “Not your concern.”
Thanks, Oscar!” Lara’s voice was sweet and sincere.
Oscar suddenly spun in circles, causing her to shriek and beg for mercy, tears forming in her eyes.
Her greatest fear was getting dizzy.
A notification popped up on WhatsApp–one unread friend request.
Donovan had added Lara as a friend.
After her bath, Lara went straight to bed, not noticing the request. But oddly enough, that night, she dreamt of Migr
Entertainment’s CEO.
In the dream, they seemed oddly close.
When she woke up the next morning, she rubbed her face, shaking her head. It had to be because Donovan was ridiculously handsome. His face had definitely left an impression on her subconscious.
The Ross family’s car was parked outside.
With her bag slung over her shoulder, Lara hopped inside, brimming with excitement. She hadn’t expected her brother to personally take her today.
“Let’s go!”
As the car started moving, a notification popped up on her phone–Chace had posted on Twitter: Thrilled to be joining the Mayer Entertainment family! Looking forward to our journey ahead. A huge thank you to my previous employer, Newshirt Entertainment. for their support over the past decade. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.
The entertainment industry was abuzz with the news. Most fans supported Chace’s move to Mayer Entertainment. After all, he had always been a leading figure in television. But Mayer Entertainment had a powerhouse film division, and insiders had hinted that Chace was eyeing a transition into movies.
Lara’s eyes widened in excitement. Clapping a hand over her mouth, she practically vibrated with joy. From now on, she and Chace would be under the same company.
This had to be fate!
Oscar noticed her acting strangely. “What’s got you so worked up?”
Lara stomped her foot in glee. “Oscar! Chace just joined the Mayer Group! We’re going to be colleagues! I’m so excited!”
Oscar rolled his eyes.
Look at her, getting all excited over another guy. What, did Chace give her an allowance! Clean up her messes? Cook her meals and take care of her? This ungrateful little brat. One day, she’d get a boyfriend and completely forget about her actual brother.

The car sped along the road, and ten minutes later, they arrived at Mayer Group’s front gates. “I can go in by myself. You can head back now,” Lara said.
She had assumed he was just dropping her off. But when she turned around, she realized he had also stepped out of the car.
It was now half past ten in the morning, way past the time Oscar usually started work.
Lara raised an eyebrow. “Oscar, you’re late.”
Oscar shot her a look. “I don’t need you to remind me.”
